The price for a new bike these days is around

Can anyone out there help. I'm organising mugs for this years inter centre team trial and I need an action image of a trials rider on a bike to go on the front of the mug. There are hundreds of road racing and motox but I'm struggling to find a trial version. I've tried working on photographs but the programme I'm working with doesn't understand my commands! Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction

So here I am around retirement age and last weekend I watched my first ever trial. And not before time you may add. Dashed enjoyable it was as well and now I rather fancy giving it a go. I'm unsure whether to plump for an old twinshock bike or go for something more modern. Pre 65 is not a consideration simply on cost. I do prefer the look of twinshock bikes and it seems, in my limited experience perusing these forums, that there may be more trials for these bikes for beginners. I assume that twinshocks will be heavier than modern and spares will be more difficult although possibly bikes like Bultaco and Montesa may be a bit easier than others. No scientific analys…

This story starts off in the enduro world, but takes an interesting turn into the world of trials bikes... I am trying to fix an issue on an 2T enduro bike by improving its lower RPM exhaust scavenging. As I was reading about pipe modelling and design, I came across an interesting article by which an engineer from GM improved the effectiveness of the expansion chamber at lower RPMs by attaching a tuned resonator to the side of the expansion chamber. The article went on to say this was used on a number of production trials bikes and a few enduro bikes. Has anybody seen anything like this hanging off an expansion chamber of a trials bike? I have been designing a full length bike workstand made out of wood for my garage.The hydraulic ones are to expensive and cannot be stored away when not used. when I put my bike on a normal stand I find that it is to low to work on(with a bad back),so need something higher up. The design is quite simple (has to be) and only needs the bike to be pushed (or ridden) up a ramp .Once in place the normal bike stand can then be put underneath or the bikes own stand can be used. It is also designed to be portable so it can be sored away when not needed (space very limited in my garage) What I want to know really ....what do you people think the height of it should be (I was t…

hi last sunday i was at a local trials advent when i had a very nasty crash. i was in 4th gear and wheelying through some open area to another trials spot when my rear wheel found a tree stump among all the debrey on the floor. this resulted in both feet bouncing off the pegs and me being dragged behind the bike with the throttle pinned open. i was unable to leg go off the bars and could see two trees straight ahead of me getting closer very quickly. unable to turn or brake i went straight into the tree with such extreame force the front end of the bike folded backward the crush the header piper. bottome yoke snapped and also the treads for the top nut completly strippe…

Been around trials for around 30 odd years now. Been asked all the usual question from lay people and riders a like. Why is there no seat on the bike, how do you set the suspension, etc, etc all the usual stuff that I am sure each of you have been asked. Until yesterday I thought I could at least give an approximate answer to anything trials relate thrown at me. Here is what stumped me “why is there no “4” on the score card? We can get a 0,1,2,3, and then a 5. So why not a 0,1,2,3,4, and then 5? Any ideas on how this came about and/or how would it change any trial if there was a “4” on the cards?

as a complete beginner to trialing the reason I got into it was a it was something I had always fancied but with work kids etc never got round to it. then in 2011 I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and march of this year underwent open heart surgery as the condition had deteriorated to the point were I was struggling with work [railway] I and required surgery. anyways to cut a long story short I convinced my reluctant wife to book me an experience day at inch perfect trials the other side of preston I fell hook line and sinker for it and am going back jan 10th but my good lady then got me a gas gas txt 125 for xmas and have been like a 52 year old kid in a sweet …

Hello everyone! I'm new to the trial scene, primarly I'm an enduro rider and a mountain biker, but now wants to get my first trials bike. I do not intend to ride my bike as a classical trials bike only, I also wan't it for riding on the land that one of my friends own, and that will be mainly trails riding and freeriding. I will also ride the bike on the mountain bike freeride course that we built there (http://vimeo.com/78294596). My questions are these: - Can I use a trials bike for this type of riding? I guess I will have to change the sprockets so it will work better in a little bit higher speeds and also adjust the suspenion a bit harder so I will not bottom out …

While waiting in queues at sections, I am regularly getting exhaust fumes blown into my face, in pulses. Why do the manufacturers not direct the exhaust tip downwards, towards the ground? It would probably help keep the noise down too. Hydrocarbons are linked to lung cancer, so it would make sense.

Notwithstanding my other post that sort of assumes Modern, I'm still a bit split between Twinshock and Modern. When I sit here looking at photos and videos and whatever, the twinshocks seem to have the appeal. Then when I go to a trial, I come home fancying a modern bike. So come on experienced forumites: which way should I jump?

Evening all, When playing around with your bikes do you adhere to the torque levels whenever possible? I'm not talking about deep engine stuff...it's just that I am gonna change my fork seals and wondered if I should purchase a low value torque wrench or not as specific values are quoted. Chris.

I got a Fantic Section a few weeks ago and the bike is not bad but needs work first it was the engine now the clutch is bad. It,s just waiting what will go next and i need something more reliable for next year so i have been looking around for something newer/better. Found a Sherco 2.9 and a Montesa 315 both 2002 and about the same price. What bike would you buy and why ? Tia,

What do you ride then?

I had heart monitor from when I used to ride a mountain bike. Out of interest I put it on today as I rode around my new practice track set up in a nearby paddock ... my heart rate peaked at 167 which as a 57 year old is around my limit and averaged around 140 bpm for 30 minutes, imagine what it was doing before I lost 10Kgs weight. Then again probably explains how I lost the weight, however this was by no means a difficult ride - I have worked much harder on some rides and one has to stop think - should I stop more often and think longer before a I blow a valve :wacko:

At a recent trial, I was observer for a stop allowed trial. For the A Grade (or expert) riders on one section they had to come in at a right angle to the end of a large log (about 1.5m high), hop the back wheel around and/or hop the front around so they were then directly in line with the end of the log prior to a splat top get on top. The space was tight such that there was a bike length +300mm between the boundary tape and the log. In positioning the rear wheel and without rolling backwards the white tape got caught on the tyre and as the rider was positioning and inching forward the tape moved with the wheel up and eventually the tape was such that it was now in front …

hi were going to an extremely wet trial tomorrow and my dad has two bikes -sherco 290 2006 and a 270 gas gas 1998 which should he take? the sherco has an irc tyre with good edges the gas gas was not used for 8 years and the tyres were pumped up to 30 psi so its still quite hard even whith no air but its getting softer as we keep riding it. again has good edges so which would give most grip. there are no rocks just mud the sherco is not very smooth the gasser is easy though please answer soon as trial tommoz thanks ben
