General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by breagh,

We need to give this old feet up nonsense a bit of re branding. Trials ? the general public think Trail and then associate it with MX. Last week I was assured that a lad at the wee boys school was mad keen on Trials found out he had a KTM. Today setting out another lad appeared on the hill having been told about our wee club from a friend I've known about 15 years, he had a KX 125. Any suggestions?

Hi all. I was going to post this in the scorpa section but thought it might be a little biased ;-) Does anyone have one and what do they run like? I seem to recall some time ago you would rev them and then down to idle would take ages. Like they were pulling in air. Thoughts welcome Cheers

Hi guys. Just looking for any feedback as to the difference you would feel on the 300 compared to the 280. I currently ride a gasgas 280 txt pro but looking at a the 2019 gasgas 300 racing? Any advice etc is very much appreciated. Thanks, liam

A query from a relative newcomer who’s only owned a Gas Gas... are all trials bikes a PITA to work on, or is it just the Gassers? Assuming it could be all as they’re so tightly packaged but there’s a lot of things on that bike coming from years of owning Hondas and KTMs that I find downright odd and frustrating... sure they use them for trade testing Spanish bike apprentices.

  11. Started by midlife,

Is there any chain out there that is as good as a Renthal R1 chain.

  12. Started by martinchivers,

I rode trials in the '80s. But stopped in 1986, for financial reasons. I had a lot of bikes, but liked the fantic 200 professional the best. I'm thinking of riding again and looking at the new bikes. I didn't like the 240 fantic, too much power. Looked at modern stuff but no idea which is best. Beta, Gasgas, sherco, to name a few. If I go down the fantic route (no pun intended) it's not easy to find a nice one. I have lost a lot of my confidence so no plans to win any championships. I had a brief ride on a 270 gasgas & hated it. It nearly dislocated both of my shoulders! Wonder if anyone has any input?

  13. Looking at buying a new or slightly used bike, sounds like Sherco made some major changes in the last 2 years. Is this bike a good pick for a club rider? How does it compare with a 2019 gas gas txt 250 pro? Pricing is within 300$. Thanks

  14. Started by section swept,

Ok so there are 2019 model trials bikes already available from some sources along with the 2018 ranges and very nice they all look to! But which one would you buy and why given that you had say £6000 burning a hole in your wallet? Answers please to include known issues good and bad together with maintenance ease or difficulty. I like the thought of lashing out on a four stroke, but then think that there’s more to wear out when compared to a two stroke. That other niggling worry also comes to mind and that is will the manufacturer chosen still be around in the near future? Lastly the old chestnut, how good is the dealer network and support? I’ve not put down my choice…

  17. I am doing some research for a project about Trials Bike safety features and would appreciate anyone who would answer the questions below Thanks Durability and Safety of Trials Bikes How often do you damage or need to undergo repairs to the bike? (Give examples) How easy are these repairs to fix? Do you ever hurt yourself when riding a trials bike? (Give examples) What, if anything, do you think could be done to improve the riders safety? Trials bikes have many safety features, do you think they go far enough to protect the rider?

I have run an IRC Winner rear tyre for the last 6 months or so with no issues, Pressure has varied between 2.5 and 4 pounds an inch, depending on conditions. Just fitted a new tyre to a new bike. As soon as I hit a small step it deflates. I am wondering if the tyre is one from before IRC fixed the loose band issue. Does anyone know how the IRC tyre date of manufacture codes work? I THINK the code on this tyre is 2417 Thanks in anticipation.
