Aircooled Monoshocks

In the process of putting a Fantic 305 back together and the discs are knackered. Found someone who will make some for me but they have asked if i want wavy ones or just std discs. Question: Ive seen wavy discs on bikes but never knew why. So why would i / should i fit wavy discs and if i do drilled or not ? Sorry but most of my trials experience has been with drum brakes and i have no idea why you would want to fit wavy discs in fact they look like they would feel really weird in use a bit like having distorted drums but i'm probably dead wrong. So please enlighten me before i spend my hard earned. Thanks

Thought I'd get in 1st and title the topic before some one else says it!!! This section has been quiet for ages now so I thought I'd post a couple of pics of a project I should have done by now. I've been collecting loads of parts over the past year or so, I just need to get the rest of it mocked up and fabricated then strip back down and refurbish it all. I was lucky to get one of the last 2 new mudguards in existence, I'm not going to use it though, it's too rare so I'm getting replica's made as I know I'll end up breaking it. Spot the parts that shouldn't be on the bike.

It looks like all the previous TR34 owners have upgraded or broken their bikes as they have stopped asking questions! Therefore it is my turn to ask a newbie question. I've not done an oil change on my 1989 TR34 yet and I have no idea what oil to use. Reading other threads has left me bamboozled. I know I need 800cc gear oil as it states this on the Beta website. What is the best grade oil as I don't have to worry about having a Beta with a dodgy hydraulic clutch? Also I'm currently using up an old Motul 2T oil at about 70/1 with the expensive shell high octane petrol. I've been thinking about getting myself an aircooled mono to go with my garelli 323, and was wondering what is considered the best allround aircooled mono??? I might do a few mods to whatever i buy like changing the footpeg position if needed.. i bought a 91' TY250r pinky(with a modified cylinder) on the weekend but am wondering should i buy something else instead? heres a pic of the TY

Apologies for another which bike question but as most of the bikes are now nearly at least 20 years old it's a bit difficult to go out and have a go on all of them. I ride as many of the traditional trials championsip as I can on my modern bike, but as I am a long way off 40 I am restricted to a few rounds. I really enjoy the series so am thinking of getting an air cooled mono to have a go at the rest of the series. Common sense says I should go for a pinky, but are they really as competitive as one of the last aircooled monos with front and rear discs etc like a Fantic 245. I used to have a 245 and struggled for grip but I thought something like a 205 would be a g…

I know theres been a lot of praise for the above bike inc pinky! but what are your veiws on this model heading for future classic status , and will they ever really be worth everything? bearing in mind there is still lots of them about?

TY350, sat open out in the weather for a bit, crank is stuck transmission is free, I have the rest of the parts minus the wrist pin. Bore and piston are perfect. If it's worth rebuilding I'll send it to B&J Racing, just looking for opinions.... I know, it's a crime but I'm not the one who did this!

Looking for some advice is the rear shock non remote type interchangable with the type with the remote as my shock is not very good and i have been offered a good shock with remote hopefully this will fit look forward to replies Alan

Hi guys, Im having a problem with my 250 yamaha pinky! when say in first gear and doing a tight turn(when throttle control is needed most!) the bike feels uneven ,snatchy, ive cleaned out the carb and jets but noticed 1, the needle at the tip is worn 2, is there supposed to be some sort of surge baffle where the main jet sits (there isnt one on my bike!) it revs fine as it should do at all other throttle openings! thanks in advance!

hi ....im getting a rebore on my yamaha ty 250 mono could anyone recomend what pistons are available and what modifications if any do i need to do to make it compatible....Thanks for any replies.

My 84 Yam TY 250 mono has Z spokes with the gold colored rims. There is some lateral runout of about 7mm over 30 deg of the front wheel. How are these wheels for truing? I've never tried truing a Z spoke wheel before. Also, is there a wheel from another bike......newer perhaps, or from another model of Yamaha or other make that would work on the ty 250? Wondering if replacing the whole wheel is any option at all? Cheers.

In February 2016 i spotted an ad on the net, about a day's drive away for a set of 4 (four) Japan market 1984 ty250 monos plus spares. Had to borrow a pick up and drive there and bring them back. Paid about £820 for the lot. 3 S models and 1 R model, one even a decent runner, and useful spares inc a 5th motor. 3 steel tanks, 1 plastic tank and a majority of the plastics turned to dust. Amazing what UV does...

I found an online manual for the TY350 mono that says cylinder head nuts torque to 22nm. Is the setting the same for the TY250 mono? Does anyone know where I can download a 250 Mono manual? Thanks

Hi Folks, Just bought two yamaha ty 250 mono of unknown age. Bikes were bought as non running but complete. both 59N chassis id One has a steel tank with a white frame (poss originally red) it has J. Shirt on the flywheel cover and silencer, the steering lock has been cut down on that bike The other bike has a plastic tank, red frame with a dirt ground out rear link (flat where it faces rear tyre) There are differences in the frames with the red frame bike having a couple of brackets with holes on a down tube at kickstart side, the white frame bike does not have that. I could put all the best bits on one bike and keep the other for spares. I…

Hi, I have a TY250 mono with a pro monty front pipe and sammy miller back box and rebored to 261cc with wossner piston, just wondering if there is a carb upgrade from the original as can not get it to run right always running on when it gets hot tried cleaning carb out I have left jetting as it was. If there is a carb upgrade where to buy one from

Hi All I need to make a tee bar for a Yamaha TY 250 mono to strip the forks does anyone know the size of the hexagonal IE to suit a for instance (19mm) socket not sure of size just guessing? Cheers Mike

can anyone help me with this? when i apply the front brake sometimes the lever comes right back to the grip other times its fine? when i apply the front brake fully the disc moves slightly sideways? this is the point where the brake lever pulls all the way to the handlebar grip! also it moves slightly when pushed and pulled by hand as in floating? the bolts that secure the disc dont tighten fully right down so theres slight play in the disc bolt mounting holes is this normal? thanks for your replys in advance! can anyone cast there minds back to when the ty250r / pinky ruled the roost! what were the best mods at the time? ive got a drilled out alloy sprocket guard and a alloy mick andrews tailpipe plus a pad (bultaco type) chain tensioner! /HEBO pegs! thats it? what have you done to yours to make it work/look better?
