I've had a pretty productive weekend and have gone from pottering up a few small rocks (no larger than 2ft) to learning the clutch control to get me up some stuff around 4ft. My problem is I CANNOT cover the rear brake when doing larger obstacles. At the moment being a bit of a newbie I'm not wearing trials specific boots but should this be that much of an issue? I just end up pushing the pedal down a little bit. It's really frustrating as when I've conquered a nice sized rock I would like to be able to stop and control myself before moving on. Help? Alan.

Been watching a few videos on facebook, you tube etc of the current batch of WTC contenders. I cannot understand why they are still practising to balance, hop and bop, move sideways, backwards and never use flags. Looks good but a lot of 5s if it was a trial. Have the rules changed for 2016 - no flags and ride section anyway they want?

I've been watching some video of Tony Bou and it occurred to me how amazing he is at hopping on his back wheel. What I'm wondering is, when you are hopping in wheelie position, but staying in place, say maybe just spinning around, is he on the gas and feathering the clutch or just the back brake?

My self-modified trials special has insufficient fork lock. I have ground off the fork stops until the fork legs almost touch the frame. The bike is supposed to have 45 degrees but it doesn't - close but not quite. Probably not the best fork trail for trials either. So, doing full lock turns, a requirement our local trials masters love to require, is difficult. I am working on decreasing the turning radius by leaning into it with my substantial butt as counterbalance. I am told to not dip my shoulder (which one?) and to look at where I want to go (over my shoulder?). There is no way I can move the front or rear around - I only have 'both tires planted' skills. Fl…

I've been riding bicycle trials for years and now that I'm starting to ride motorcycle trials I'm having trouble remembering to use the rear brake, I keep instinctively grabbing the front brake because it's where the the rear brake on my bike is. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you get over it?

Throughout this and other threads there are innumerable discussions about various techniques and manoeuvres that digress into discussion/argument about exactly what's what, sometimes degenerating into completely unnecessary vitriol, or sometimes just becoming a confusing mismatch of terminology. I haven't found any definitive "Trials Dictionary" either here or elsewhere online. Perhaps a sticky could be put here with broadly agreed definitions of eg. Roll-up Double Blip Zap Splatter etc Each should have all the commonly used terms worldwide (or at least in the english language as that's the default here) ie Zap, Jap Zap, Zap Zap …

Bike : Sherco 290 2009 Is there a certain way to set up your suspension , so as that hopping on the rear wheel is easier. When i watch videos of people hopping on the rear wheel their rear shock seems to bottom out when they land. As if they have a high damper setting. I had by bike on the stock settings which is 2 clicks out on the rear damper and 2 clicks out on the front forks damper then a flush red cap on the rebound. This setting seemed a bit springy for hopping plus the rear shock would not compress that much. Is there a happy median setting for the suspension, so as the bike is good for all round use? but will still let you hop? Thanks!

Trying to go from the floor straight to the back wheel being on the log (not sure if this a double blip or what?), anyway so far i'm managing to compress the forks on the log then i'm trying to spring the back wheel straight up, but as you can see in the video the back wheel isn't really jumping up. I can definitely feel that i'm making a difference to the back wheel as it seems like its gone really light and is floating over the log rather than banging in to it and hanging up. So what do I need to do here, is it just that I need to work on compressing the rear suspension more/harder/faster on the approach? http://youtu.be/j614SglIKOU The very first move in the video…

I have been competing in trials for the past 4 years and stalling fives are ruining my scores. Apart from a faster tick-over I have been avoiding my back break hindering my riding in other ways. Any advice please.

Hey Guys I am after a bit of advice on how to stop soft dabs. Recently I have been ruining good results due to silly dabs that even C riders would never do. When it comes to hard sections with big steps or really nasty rock section I can clean it confidently but then the next section I will drop a silly couple of dabs in a easy section. I never seem to drop them because I am struggling it seems more of an safety dab that in reality I should not need. Can anyone give me some advice or ideas how I can get over this. Thanks
