Right then, I have come to realise that for me to enjoy and make a reasonable assault on the SSDT next year I need to be super fit, so has anyone got any tips/ training programs to help??? I know the best thing to do is go out on the bike as often as pos but I have no practice area but I do ride every weekend and go to the gym about 4 times a week. I would be interested what kind of training program the world class boys have, any clues????

I've the basic full lock turn technique on hard grippy surface down, but on a slippery surface like hard pack dirt covered with loose dirt I keep getting into trouble with the front wheel pushing, sliding on the dirt, enlarging the turn. So I am wondering what's the best technique: keep the bike as straight as possible and lean it in the turn as far as possible? Or anywhere in between. Weight inside / outside peg? Inside / outside bar end? Weight or un-weight the front wheel? Anything else? Thanks. DC

Hi guys and gals, Do any of you have any tips on floater turns? I was practising them tonight for a change. I have watched, and do watch the Ryan vids, as good as they are, he makes everything look so easy. I am practising up hill, with a steady pace in first or second gear and when ready I am initiating a wheelie, trying to throw the bike over in the direction I want to go, lifting my outside elbow high and trying to look behind me. I know the looking well behind helps tremendously. I keep telling myself "elbow up" and on the approach I keep telling myself to load the inside peg. But I can still not get past about 90 degrees with out a dab to finish…

I was coached to keep the feet straight ahead on the pegs. Having the heels in and brushing up against the swingarm was discouraged. The paint on the swingarm being rubbed off was especially bad! Anybody have any ideas on this. This was at TTC.

Hi all, I'm new to trial bikes and would appreciate a bit of education about slow wheelie. After several weeks of practices, I start to be able to reach the balancing point but have problems with the rear brake pedal. Many instruction say "cover the rear brake" and I have no problem with my dirt bikes doing so. However, my trial bike has the rear brake pedal much higher than my dirt bikes; I can only bring it down to slightly above the level to the foot step. Then, I often inadvertently drag the rear brake as the front wheel gets higher. There are several scenarios I can think of; 1) This is because my body position is wrong during wheel…

I posted this question before and it bugs me! I have rode mototrials all my life on the balls of my feet. Started riding bike trials a few years ago and the top riders around me said ride on the arch of your feet, on pedal bike that is. With todays techniques as a weekend warrior it seems like riding on the arches makes since. When riding this way I seem to keep my heels down more and my elbows tend to stay up. I tend to ride more sqaure, if that makes since. One huge weakness I have is not using my legs more, but moving to my arches makes me feel like I'm taking a huge amount of weight off my arms. Feels like I can hop better also, off camber stuff feels extremely akwar…

Does anyone have a recommendation for forearm protection? I use standard elbow/ forearm guards and even kid sized guards. They tend to slide down towards my wrist and can be hot in summer. I don't really need the elbow protection but do tend to land on my forearms. This happens when falling in a section and when getting spit off the front on a quick trail.

Throwing together a series of vids on basic trials techniques for the club I joined a few months back, to repay them for helping a noob out so much. Keen on feedback to make sure the information is accurate. Keeping them fairly general but bits will be specific to Australia e.g. we don't have the non-stop rule yet. Available as text files from the club site here. New moto trials rider. 2006 Beta Rev3. I'm trying to get the rear wheel off the ground to do some endos and whatnot. I'm not finding the power I really need to get this done. I've tried "jumping" like I've read in a different thread, but it doesn't seem to happen. I can nose wheelie and endo a bicycle with ease, using one finger on the brake. The only way i'm able to get enough power on the moto is to use two fingers and pull really hard. As I'm new to moto trials I'm wondering if the front brake needs maintenance? Or is this just a technique thing? The pads look thick and everything looks clean. Plenty of fluid too. Is it common to need two fingers or should…

MY 2002 Sherco 290 seems to suffer from the front end pushing on/washing out in tight turns. I'm a beginner at trials and thought at first it is my technique, but a friend of mine rode the bike at the weekend and said he had the same problem. I'm 6'2" so I have the bars fairly far forward to make it comfier. Could this be making it worse? Any thoughts?

Which of the two do you use when making tight turns, figure 8 etc?. When riding on road bikes, I have been always using rear brake only when making slow speed turns, u turns, etc, in order to prevent losing balance if front brake is applied to abruptly. Is it the same with trial bike?

I've been trying to learn to front wheel hop. I can do reasonable beginner hops on my bicycle, but the moto eludes me. A timing thing and also the bigger leg movements needed I think. So I was thinking how I could help the process along. I knocked up a very rough and ready jig to hold the bike up so I could hop without continually having to stop after every attempt. It has a few problems being so rough, but it works. In just two short sessions my hops have improved more than they have in the past few weeks (still absolute garbage, the video certainly isn't a how-to!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PCeKD7R8Qs

I'm thinking there are probably numerous threads on this, but I can't find them right now. I've seen numerous training videos on how to front wheel hops while staying in one place. Doesn't seem like they're doing me much good. I can stationary balance for a couple of minutes on a good day, but when I start hopping (whether from one foot down or from a stationary balance) I can, at the most, do about 5-6 hops before having to put my foot down. I'm definitely doing something wrong. Not only am I not able to keep hopping but I get winded after a few minutes of trying to get going over and over again. I imagine, if I were doing it correctly, it should use just a little bi…
