I have recently dragged my last remaining Bultaco from the back of the shed where it has spent the last couple of years in disgrace. A few years back I decided to try sidecar trials, so got hold of a chair which was once fitted to a '74 model 125. I purchased a matching bike which was running absolutely perfectly, but had trashed lower frame rails and other frame damage so was ideal for the project. Mods duly done, the bike was reassembled, but wouldn't start. Crank seals I thought, so I whipped a new set in. Still no joy. To cut a long story short I stripped and reassembled the bike (I didn't split the cases though, or lift the barrel) till I was sick of the sight …

Does anyone please know if a clubfoot type silencer is a direct replacement (same brackets on frame and silencer) for the banana type rear silencer on a Bultaco Sherpa Model 124.

I was recently contacted by trialscentral with a question from another member . Sadly for whatever reason I was unable to reply through the private message section. In any case JC2 if you are reading I will try to answer your question and if any other forum members have insight please bring them forward. The question was whether or not Bultaco made available a 175cc SherpaT in Sept 68. And in what numbers. Bultaco to my knowledge did not bring out a small bore Sherpa in the 60's. If they did they were one off models built specially for either a factory rider or close aquaintances of the Bulto's. The first model 125 Sherpa was the M156. This was also called a L…

Hi all, I have been helping a friend rebuild a Model 159 which was bought as a basket case. We have a problem with the cutch at the moment. The arm will not disengage the clutch. It is as if the puch rod is too short. I am fairly confident all the drum, hub and plates were assembled ok. We put the thrust washer in with a spot of grease so it didn't fall before all was assembled and we didn't forget the ball bearing. Looking in the Haynes Manual there appears to be a 'clutch rod extension' It looks like a short piece of pushrod. We haven't got one!! Should we have on for this model? Where does it fit? So at the moment we have as follows - operating arm - pushro…

Hi All, I am in the process of rebuilding the engine in my Bultaco Sherpa 350 (1976). At the moment the bore is STD although badly worn so thinking of taking it out to one under the maximum size (any thoughts) Also big end bearing, no noise and no up and down movement on the bearing, but there is a mile of sideways movement between the webs, is this normal? It will get rebuilt with all new bearings seal and gaskets etc, Any help thoughts or recommendations would be gratefully received.

My son tore apart the 159 and we are trying to get it put back together/restored. We can't get the front wheel back on. It seems we are missing a spacer on the non brake side. The top hat spacer is being used inside the brake hub and the small cylinder on the non brake side. The non brake side hub won't clear the fork leg. If someone could shoot a pic of the assembly it would help. Sorry, I wasn't present during disassembly.

Is it feasible to convert a 159 to right foot brake acceptiing there may be some loss in braking power? I just find it more instinctive having ridden left foot gear change all my life and still riding on the road, I think I'm just too old to re-tune my brain and have enough to concentrate on in a section rather than which foot to press!!

Hi all, I have just purchased a bit of a bitsa Bultaco Pursang that i am going to restore. The motor in it is a 173 prefix (JM-17300036) and when i search on the Cemoto reference page it comes up as a 'MOTOR TRANS TRACK 350'. https://cemoto.tripod.com/bultaco.htm Can anyone tell me more about this motor - as in what model it was built for, what the JM stands for and why the slightly odd non-model specific referenece? Thanks, Max

Hello everyone. I have a 187 Alpina 250.....It’s completely restored. It runs great except I need to carry extra spark plugs with me because after about 45 minutes of riding The bike starts to sputter Lose power and eventually stall. It’s rather disheartening because I have to replace the plug every 45 minutes. Once the new plug goes in it runs beautifully until the same thing happens again. Occasionally the throttle sticks a little bit and I can smell a little bit of something “burning”.... just in general. No horrible burning. I am running 32 to 1. The dead plug comes out golden brown but apparently is completely deceased! Has anyone ran into this or is there something …

The bikes been stranded on the bench for a while due to other jobs.Getting back to sorting out the exhaust (see previous thread ) i need to find out what clearance there is, where the middle box and clubfoot join, between the wheel and the frame.I put an old set of nylon bushes back in the swingarm and mounted it on the frame (dry build for exhaust mods so frame, swingarm, tank, airbox, crankcases, barrel and head only). The problem is that the rear engine mount doesn't line up with the swingarm spindle if it's mounted on the engine first and if you put the spindle through first only one engine mounting bolt will line up.Clearly something isn't straight but before i get the oxy-…

Having recently opened up the "middle box" to replace the perforated tube and repack i thought i'd have a minor dry build to check the fit and see if i could improve what looks like a slightly loose fit to the silencer. So crankcases and barrel in the frame i offered up the pipe to the barrel to find the stud spacing on the exhaust flange and the barrel are different! The holes on the flange are 51mm between centres and on the barrel they are 57mm.My bike ( a 191 ) was a box of bits when i got it and was missing the top end .The barrel i've got is a 325cc one,i think off a 183,and it has the 159 stamp on it.I know the previous owner bought the bike as one of a pair with hi…

Putting this bike back together. There are two large washers each side of the rear axle chain snail cams. Two fit outside and next to the rear wheel nut and under the axle shaft head but do the others go next to the snail cams on the outside of the swingarm or on the inside of the swingarm?
