Bultaco

Hi all, mentioned this elsewhere, but I'm keen to get a solution - I have a plastic tank for my Sherpa which no matter how I try to clean it, dries with a white powdery appearance. Have tried paint thinner, car polish, kitchen cleaners, petrol and hot water (not at the same time) but no luck. Had a go with some wet & dry tonight which has almost completely smoothed out the texture of the tank, but still hasn't got rid of the white. I'd like to have a good looking tank, but I'd rather clean this up than buy another. Any ideas?

Installing a new piston in my 199B and it feels like there is some friction with the top end bearing, all new parts, maybe it needs to break in ? feels like it is rubbing on the spacer on the ends of the bearing?

I have fitted Electronic ignition to my bultaco sherpa from Bultaco[uk], when you line up the red mark on the back plate with the top fixing screw what would the ignition timing be. Thanking you in advance Hightown

Can anyone help me source a new seal holder? as you can see this one is totally shot!! I've never seen one with such a deep insert. Cheers guys

Hi, I'm new to here and was just after some advice really, I have a 1978 bultaco 325 trials bike, I've owned this for years and done trials when I was younger, but then it's just been left in the garage due to needing new piston and rings, I've finally pulled my finger out and decided to do it lol, but only to find out the piston was so oversized that I couldn't go any bigger(can't remember numbers off top of my head) so I've managed to get a standard 325 piston for it but now need a cylinder liner, I've got a chap who will line it for me, just wondered if this was possible and if liners were easy to get hold of?! I have a 350 Alpina 213, history unknown but supposedly restored; it’s still got the original Bing carb. The bike starts after a few kicks but not with the choke - won’t start if you use it. More of an issue, though possibly related, is if I drop down to first for any difficult bits (I use it for greenlaning here) the motor doesn’t respond to the throttle, dies and won’t restart unless I give it a long bump. I’ve had the carb apart and cleaned it as best I can, air filter cleaned and oiled, and plug changed, though no further work done yet - any suggestions? I assume it’s running the original ignition setup but haven’t had the side off to check.

I am in the process of starting a rebuild of a genuine 199B and need some help in sourcing a couple of parts please. Firstly, any idea where I can get hold of a right hand side cast (forged?) alloy rear brake lever? They used to appear on eBay now and again, but not lately. Secondly, I am also after a curved, oval rear registration plate, the type that follows the contour of the mudguard. I know they are not original fit, but I fitted one to my bike when it was new. I'm blowed if I can find one on eBay or anywhere else for that matter, but a couple of years ago they were quite common. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is this frame strengthening normal on late 199B frame?

I just finished reading a good interview with Yrjo Vesterinen on another site(don,t know if I can name it without causing trouble).In it he states that he knew there was a problem in 79 with the rear suspension on the Buls. In 82,working with Comerfords they had modified it to a point that it was working better.So my questions are to you guys that have the modified Comerfords bikes. Is it a noticeable difference to the average rider? Which modification achieved the improvement? Just curious and trying to learn more about the history.I would love to try and duplicate one,but just plain old 199 models are hard to come by over here and I,m not about to ruin my…

Hi. I wondered if anyone could identify this frame, I think that it is an early model that has had an aluminium bash plate added at some stage. I'm sorry about the poor quality of the pics... i think the autofocus was focusing on the background. i'll try to take some better ones later.The number on the headstock is 618292 This doesn't seem to correspond with any of the bultaco model identification sites.

I received a call this morning that my very good friend Larry Hobkirk (lbhbul) passed away last night after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was 77 years young and without a doubt one of the finest people that I have ever been privileged to call my friend. Hi is it the heat gun (no cap on) or paint stripper as been told its not as strong as it was in my youth.Tried sanding as was going to leave paint as a primer but still rough with lots of paint pit holes in.There is 3 inch hairline crack runing along bottom length ways which need to be fixed.Heard that a putty resin has been invented to repair metal instead of welding so will look into that soon .Thanks

Hi Chaps I am looking for info on my M49 which I purchased in 2016. What I know so far is it was first registered by Sid Moran LTD (Windsor comp shop badge still attached to rear mudguard) on 16th October 1969.Reg No MPP8H frame No B4900477 engine No a few digits earlier. It was then sold to Robert John Swift on 29 October 1969 who appears to be the only owner until I purchased it. Not sure why frame is yellow but removed some of the paint and it doesn’t appear to of ever been silver. Am not going to restore it but use it as is as it just looks so good with all its battle scars. Am looking for any information on the bike or The Rider Robert Swift. Regards all David

I'm interested in using friction material plates but NOT the more expensive Barnett ones for bultaco. read on here about using certain Japanese bike plates and it looks like the kit that is sold by Bultaco UK(?) uses that type plate evidenced by much bigger inside dia. Anyway, all these plates are listed as 110 O.D. but I'm measuring the Bultaco hub I.D. right at 110. are the plates slightly under or do they have to be filed down to fit? I know the tabs are wider but I'm talking about the diameter of the plate fitting the dia of the hub. unfortunately I just buttoned up the clutch side on my son's 87 Honda cr80 after inspecting the clutch. at the time I wasn't …

I did my first trial on my M92 bultaco yesterday, and the gearing in first is way too high. I'm running a sprocket ratio of 11-42 (corrected from 46) which sounds about right. But 1st gear is like being in 3rd on my mono. The bike has been built form a box of bits so who knows where the parts came from. Is there different primary drives / gearboxes or anything else I should look out for?

hi all how mutch oil do i need to put in my sherpa 350 forks ive got castrol 10w fork oil allso whats the best gearing ive got 11 tooth front sproket what should i get for the back? ive been tojd 39 is the standerd would this be ok for geting up hills? im onley just starting to trials so i wont be going up any great big mad hills not till i get use ive just rebuilt my sherpa 199A just wating to get my wheels cant wait to try it got it runing needs tinkering with but cant do mutch till i get the wheeels think the cluts will need setting im praying it wont need a new one but if it dose ill cross that when i get it running by the way is it easey to put new clutch plates on i…

Going along with the theory that there's no such thing as a silly question, what is the bolt behind the seat loop on the Sherpa? Is it to secure some sort of a rear light?
