Hi I have just got myself a 198b in what looks to be very original condition. I will be using the bike for easy trials as I'm not the best of riders. I have a 199a that is a bit too highly geared, if I remember correctly it's got 11/39 gearing ( I'll check this is correct). The 250 needs new chain and sprockets, so before I go any further could anyone give me their thoughts on what works best for them on this bike. I have tried to post some really dodgy pictures of the bike. Any thoughts, good or bad would be appreciated.

I purchased a Sherpa last year with the intention of restoring as I have done a fair few in the past. I am just looking for a little advice as to the definite year/model as there are a few things puzzling me. To start off the bike is sat in a frame believed to be SM but can not confirm, the original frame is supplied which is numbers matching to the engine. Engine JM-19906685-A Frame JB-19906685-A The Number of the frame the bike is currently sat in is 685, no letters just the three numbers and looks to be chrome. hi everyone im new on hear i had a bultaco many years ago when i was at shcool and ever since ive wanted anougher one so ive just got meself a sherpa 350 befor i stript it down it was runing ok started first kick now ive put it back together it wont start checked the usual plug got spark i dont think fuel is geting throw i took the plug out and it was dry can anybody help me please

Hi is it the heat gun (no cap on) or paint stripper as been told its not as strong as it was in my youth.Tried sanding as was going to leave paint as a primer but still rough with lots of paint pit holes in.There is 3 inch hairline crack runing along bottom length ways which need to be fixed.Heard that a putty resin has been invented to repair metal instead of welding so will look into that soon .Thanks

hello all can anybody tell me whats the best way to seal the holes were the greas nipels go the only reason im sealing them is because ive put the rolling bush kit in ive tryd clear silicon and it just keeps coming out when its dry is there somthing else what would work?

This is my first post on this forum but I have been viewing the topics on the board for about a year. I own several Bultaco's and I am very knowledgeable about the brand and many of the models they produced. I have been riding an M159 Sherpa for the past 5 years in vintage events. This past year I have been using it in the vintage class but we ride junior type sections. Myself and the other vintage riders find the junior sections more than manageable on the older bikes. Last year I got an M199B sherpa t and I am just now finishing off the restoration. Hi Had the bultaco out at the weekend and managed to stall it on some rocks. When i started her back up and put her in first, she went backwards and had me bent over the bloody handlebars. Tried all gears and every one was in reverse. Has any body ever heard of this. Got her back home on a trailer and started her up last night and all is well again. How can a bike run in reverse. Merry Christmas! Well the Sherpa is finally back together and after a short run up the road in a hailstorm all seems to be working OK. However, my initial difficulty in kickstarting the bike before I stripped her down remains. Surely it can’t be right that the kickstart (which is already high for my short legs) hits the frame (so much for new powder coating!) then the brake pedal and obviously the footpeg is also in the way and catches your heal even if you hitch it up? Is there a solution I.e. an alternative base pivoting or cranked lever that has some additional clearance? I’m used to kickstarting my T140V Bonneville but that doesn’t hit anything on the way do…

hi all what gap should be between the wheel on the right side of the swing arm? the wheel has been rebuild. it runs true the chains on turns ok on the sprockets its just close to the swing arm on the exhaust side.

So, I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what parts from other models will fit and be correct on my M-151. I am hoping it’s not a one off model and that nothing besides that year will fit. I really don’t know how to date the frame either. I assume a part number list might help, but seeing as nobody lists parts for sale under the part number it doesn’t really help me. I plan on upgrading the stock 28 mm Bing T84 (the slide is badly worn and I'm told virtually impossible to replace) to a Mikuni 28 mm TM flat slide, VM 28, or VM 26 round slide. Does anyone have experience with any of these carbs on a 199A? Will the 26 mm work well or is it too small? I've been told that the smaller bore might boost low rpm performance. What jetting/needle combination works at 1500 - 2500 feet? Thanks! tightwoods

I tried to put my front wheel on only to find that it,s not centered between the forks.It is over to the left side (non-brake side). I bought the bike this winter and didn,t pay close enough attention to the front wheel when I took it apart. My first thoughts were that maybe it had been re-spoked at one time with incorrect offset or that it had the wrong backing plate which was keeping it over too far.I have my brothers 199a here that is still apart for painting so I tried his front wheel.Same problem,over too far to the left! I can,t believe that both wheels could have the same issues.What the heck else could be wrong? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

hi all the head bolts on my 199A. do i really need to buy a touqe wench? or is it ok to just tighten them up in order? how thight do they have to be? i mean i know they have to be thight but i dont want to buger the threads up as i had to have the helicoiled. the last owner had helicoiled them him self and did a crap job. so now they have been done proper ive just put the motor back in today just got the head to put on and the exhaust.

Just stripped down the forks to overhaul and send the tubes off for re-chroming because they were pitted and one was leaking. Got rather a surprise to find that they are different lengths? one is 57cm and the other is 54.8!! Which one is correct (if either)? And what would be my best way forward considering I was looking at about £160 to get those ones re chromed? In Motion and SMP don't have them listed and a google search hasn't come up with anything apart from stuff in the US. Hi all, I'm desperately in need of your help! I think I just made a BIG mistake ! I bought this bike, Sherpa 125cc, last week, it was in very good shape! It even started after a few kick start. I didn't use it, just tested it, and then it suddenly stoped while I was riding it, after less then a minute. After that impossible to start it again. So I checked many things, changed all oils, and cleaned the carburetor. That where I made a huge mistake ! When I fixed back the carburetor, I inserted the "bushel" in the wrong position, 180deg offset from the right position. Can any of you guys help me out here, I've got the above bike and the problem I've got is when i go to kick it over the kick start goes throught the motion but it does not engage and turn the engine, the return spring has gone put that wouldn't stop the engine from turning over would it? any help you guys could offer would be a great help. Seem to remember somebody asking the other day about jetting for a VM28 Mikuni on a 199B but I cant find the post. I've got one fitted to one but runs like poo so just wondering if anybody knew a starting point for jetting the carb as it feels week. Don't have any spare Mikuni jets so will have to order and they aint cheap so just wondering what is the starting point on jets slide etc. Thanks

Hello all. I am starting a rolling refurb of recently purchased matching frame and engine number 199a.Its a bit rough and had frame painted white in past.No oil in clutch or gearbox!. I have replaced badly damaged front rim and chromed hub lining,new brake shoes, new fork seals ,tyre , springs and oil have sorted front end.I am looking for advice please as below. 1.Gearbox refilled with SAE 90, now leaking heavily from drive sprocket seal? or around this area i think! is this a big job to change, most likely point of leakage? 2.Speedo doesnt work, best way to troubleshoot? 3.Swingarm shock absorber mounting fixing cant release one upper allen key fi…
