The plating on the inside of the front hub is peeling off. Can this be stripped and replated (chrome or ?). Are steel or cast iron liners available that I could purchase and install myself? I can machine out the hub to fit the liner. Thanks. tightwoods

hi guys ive had a problem with my chain cams they should be ajusted the same on both sides but there not the right 1 is set diffrant 2 the left side. the chain seems ok with about half inch play but theres something not right. there still is abit of paint in the holes where the spindel gose from when i had them painted. as anybody any ideas?

I,m not sure if it,s the correct terminology,but the clutch drags on my 199A.When riding the bike and you pull in the clutch it doesn,t fully disangage and the bike tries to keep going with the pressure plate correctly adjusted and slight free play at the lever. Before pulling it apart I did check the pressure plate trueness by pulling the sparkplug,then kicking it over while holding the clutch lever in- it was pretty much spot on.So I pulled it apart and the basket has no wear grooves to speak of.I,ve never seen that before and it doesn,t look like they,ve been filed smooth.Anyway,I don,t think the plates were hanging up on the basket.The hub looks ok with very slight w…

Due to mechanical ineptitude I have one warped inner (earless) clutch plate in my original all steel clutch pack. If I order Barnett friction discs are they thick enough that I can discard the one problem inner steel plate or do I need a replacement?

Hi all, been having some trouble with my 199a 350 1978. I've bought a new set of oil seals, but I'm sure which way to fit them in. I've bought the four single types from In Motion. Would someone be so good as to clear up this for me? Many thanks,

Should these be nut on studs are are some bolts. Right hand rear where there should be a head stay is a bolt but the others as far as I can see are nuts on studs

I am the original owner and plan on getting it running again. Stock Gearing is 11T/39T. Does anybody know how many chain links were standard? I have 97 links using an offset link with two masterlinks. I don't know what was OEM. Can anybody help? Thanks.

Can anyone tell me the best way to seal a 199a's exhaust and rear silencer joint. Is there any particular tape to use? Cheers...John

I've now finished the 199A rebuild and thought I would post a picture. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the questions that I posted during the rebuild. By the way, I know it's the wrong colour but I prefer the 199 colour scheme and I bought it to keep & ride, not to sell on. I'm off out on it next weekend so it's probably the last time it will be seen in this condition! Regards Dave.

Evening Guys, are Bulto forks inherently 'wobbly' only really noticed since I have been trying harder sections and particularly rocks but at times it seems like the front wheel is pointing in a different direction to the bars, everything in terms of clamps and spindle is tight and as it should be?

My 199a has a set of older forks on it with the tapered fork tops and no pinch bolts on the top triple clamp.Is the dampening system going to be much worse than the stock 199 forks? I,m guessing that it might be.What would be the best upgrade I could do to these forks?

Having trouble with my front brake I just can't get it to work, it has new shoes and a new cable. It looks like the the hub has already been sleeved. What I'm after is the diameter of the standard brake drum so I can check for wear, does anyone know it ?? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Just finished my first trail on the Bulto tonight and all I can say if the front end is awefull Has anyone fitted a more modern set of forks to a Bult and if so what type and is the conversion easy ?

Is there anywhere to purchase a front fender brace like this for my 199a ?

I tried to put my front wheel on only to find that it,s not centered between the forks.It is over to the left side (non-brake side). I bought the bike this winter and didn,t pay close enough attention to the front wheel when I took it apart. My first thoughts were that maybe it had been re-spoked at one time with incorrect offset or that it had the wrong backing plate which was keeping it over too far.I have my brothers 199a here that is still apart for painting so I tried his front wheel.Same problem,over too far to the left! I can,t believe that both wheels could have the same issues.What the heck else could be wrong? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

My Bultaco 199A has had an alloy petrol tank from new, most of the similar 199A bikes that I have seen have a plastic tank fitted as did many of the previous model red Bults & the 340. Was the alloy tank an option or was it only fitted to certain models?

hi the 199A gear box is the any spacers where gear box fits on the lay shaft?

Hi, Been looking over your site and lots of good info. I'm fixing up a 199A and it does not have a head stay/steady. I ordered one from In Motion, but I have two questions. First, is it really necessary and do I need to re-torque the entire head bolts and nuts? The guy at In Motion said only do the two that hold it onto the head, while a shop here in the States said you should loosen them all and re-torque. Not sure what to do.
