Hi Everyone, Just got off the phone from Carole Nash and they're saying that they won't insure any trials bike worth over 5 Grand, and the bikes got to be road registered to put it under a motorbike policy. Anyone use any other off road Insurance companies.. Thanks in advance

Hi. My bike is coming up to 3 years old and will shortly need its first MOT. Can someone please advise what I need to pass the MOT?? Do I need working lights, brake light? (god I hope not as all wiring stripped when bike was new) If so, is there a simple and quick fix to pressing the pedal and making the brake light work?? Obviously need a horn but can strap one on no problems Ta muchly

Good Morning All I have brought a Yamaha YZ250 yesterday I want to put it on road exempt enduro and get a log book for it and put it on q plate make it road legal , the last owner as put It on day time Mot which is ok so mot runs out July this year on this bike , question is will I need to register the bike with nova hmrc ? only thing ive done is filled in v55/5 form following guides on the utube that part is fine ,,,,please advise what other steps I need to do many thanks rich

The DVLA guidance notes for registering a vehicle in 2012 (form V355) said: Competition motorcycles are excluded from the EU type approval system (vehicles intended for use in competition, on roads or in off-road conditions) Directive 2002/24/EC Article 1. What are the numberplate options for a modern trials bike?

Dear Anyone, Apologies if this has been covered before but I've searched the forum and been all over the MOT, DOT and DVLA web sites and can't get anything that gives a clear answer. I want to ride my 1983 Sherpa T on the road. its never ever been registered so I will have to get a V5. I only want to use it during daylight hours. I opnly want to use it for short "hops" between off road sections/lanes etc Registering the bike; As far as I can make out it is clearly a trials bike and thus its exempt from the ECWTA and SVA so I can register it with DVLA as exempt. Will cops now start targeting road trials. Heard reports from a couple of rider's, that a cop just happen to be passing a road trial last month and he decided to pull everyone that came out the farm track on to the road. Did them for small number plates and tyres not for road use. If true, it could be the thin end of the wedge and it may give them the idea to set up outside these trials for easy money. Anyone heard about it or was it just a rumour.

I have a slightly technical question regarding the rules for MOTs. My bike was first registered as new in May'07, and is currently taxed I think until June'10, after which I will have to go through the hassle of getting it MOT'd in order to tax it. Does anyone know if I SORN it now, and then re-tax it before it comes up to it's 3rd birthday, then the tax disc will run for another year before I have to get it MOT'd? (e.g if I re-tax in April'10, will run to April'11 when it will be nearly 4 years old?) Reason is I only plan to keep it about a year and I'm looking for the least hassle way to extend the taxed status a bit longer. Or. legally should a vehicle over 3 years old…

A bit of a whimsical question really. I was watching the video of the Scottish trials and there was some main road riding between venues. I was just wondering how far a field people have been on the road, to or between trials?

I am thinking of buying an old air-cooled mono that has been restored, and whilst doing this a replacementengine was fitted. This means that the frame number matches the one on the log book but the engine number doesn't. The bike is registered to the correct address and I know it's not stolen. It is not currentl taxed or mot'd but I would want to get it back on the road for road trials. What imPlications would it have if any? Would anyone other than me ever even know?

i went to register a bike today all the correct documentation etc to hand having done it loads of times.. however.. you cant read about it anywhere on any websites or even on a poster but the process for registering a vehicle has changed significantly.. virtually all local dvla offices are closing in december and all applications will ahve to be done by mail.. in the meantime significant changes have alrady come into effect on 15/04/13. you need to do this for all vehicles built in the uk or not. you must have a dating certificate from the original manufacturer.. if not you must have a letter from the manufacturer stating that they do not have records or did not build…

Can anyone give me a number to get cheap insurance for a trials bike

Been looking to insure my new Gas Gas (not yet picked up) for fire & theft from home as it will be worth £5k+. I tried Carole Nash off road insurance and they won't insure anything over £5k at all. I can't find anyone else. MSM only cover road registered bikes but I don't need to register it on the road and doing that will also make it more expensive as I'll have to tax it as well as register and insure it. Anyone else do off road theft insurance?

Hi, I know the topic has been covered many times but I have road registered a used Gasser before with no problems but this is different and the DVLA are gettings on my t*%s! The bike is less than three years old and has not been road registered before. The story so far!! Hi I'd like to get my enfield crusader road legal , but ive only got the old log book style reg document and ive never changed to the modern doc as i believe the log book would have to be sent in and would be lost is this correct ? could anyone here clarify the procedure ? thanks greg

Morning All, Due to my age being 23 when I took my test, and after January 2013 I could do my full bike test but only have a a2 licence meaning I am restricted to 47bhp and no more than a 0.2kw/kg power to weight ratio. so im wondering if any body out there actually noes the BHP of a 2015 sherco 300? its the power to weight im worried about. sherco state it weighs 68kg and 0.2kw equates to 0.268bhp, there for the bike would have to be 18bhp to be legal? could any one in the no please shed some light Many Thanks

Hello Just after some advice. Pretty much getting there with the registering my Yam TY175. On the case with NOVA, have a dating letter from Yamaha etc. Just completing the V55/5. As trials bikes are exempt from type approval, can I leave all the boxes that say 'get this information from the certificate of conformity' blank? Or is certificate of conformity something completely different? Wheelbase, Mass etc? Thanks for your help. Cheers Dave

Hi, Need a little advice if possible. I have a 349 Cota which I've had for a few years now and have decided that this year I'll get the bike finished. It's still in bits but I've contacted Sandifords for an age related certificate which they cannot issue now due to not being authorised by HMRC. Can the bike be registered without this document? I don't know if the bike was ever registered as there were no documents supplied with the bike when I bought it. I'm pretty sure it's a Mark 1 349 from the engine and chassis numbers, probably late 1979 early 1980. The numbers are: 51M 18186. I would prefer an age related registration number rather than a Q plate if possible. …
