Don't seem to hear much about the Montesa or the Sherco these days, what are the owners views on the bikes now they have had chance to give them a good testing? Would love to own a montesa in 12 months if the funds will allow, my local dealer was telling me alot of folks who bought them don't seem to be getting on with the fourstroke. Any thoughts from the horses mouth so to speak

Does anybody know anything about if or when beta might release a four stroke to the public? I suppose a broader question is, what is the status of the law-suit that had been supposedly filed by gas-gas/beta with the FIM? The crux of that suit pertained to the fact that the bike manufacturers (particularly gg & beta) were angry that the FIM is dictating techology requirements, rather than emissions requirements. One or both have supposedly produced 2T motors that meet or exceed the emissions standards set for the four stroke machines. A lot would hinge on the results of the law-suit as to weather or not we will see 4T machines from these manufacturers in the near te…

Is it just me or did I miss something birkett said in the test and I quote "..........the suspension was working well especially the rear after the 315r which never did have the best back suspension." Funny how we always get these 'birkisms' last years bike was crap/ let water in/ had wrong gearing/etc but never mentioned the suspension on the mont in the last 6 years anyway as being anything other than ok. The rear unit is adjustable aswell and as far as most fair minded people say its quite good isn't it?

Hi all, My bantams well on its way to being finished so though I would get myself another project. A BSA Barracuda 250cc. Im going to strip it down and convert it to yet another trials bike as I am planning on competing in a few trials :-) Question - Can I use My spare Bantam hubs and fit them to the bike and if they can will the braking be efficent enough to pass an MOT as I wil take it to local shows?? I Understand this is a popular modification??? With an 18'' wheel on the back and 21'' on the front what is the maximum tyre width I can fit on the rear without modifying the swinging arm. Can the swinging arm be modified easily or is there a replacment that I can…

Hi 1st off this isn't on a trials bike but I do compete on a GasGas and trials guys seem to be a bit more clued in on engines than the general biking fraternity so heres my problem. I've just replaced the engine on my sons pitbike with a brand new unit re-using the old carb and exhaust, engine is the same type but not same make so may have differnet spec cams, valves etc. The old engine ran fine with this carb and the carb is clean. When you blip the throttle wide open from tickover it bogs down and trys to stall but if you open the throttle a bit more gentley it'll rev quite nicely. Riding wise it pulls fine as you don't really go from zero to full open but the plug …

Just read the Steve Saunders test on the Sherco 4T in the YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE, he mentioned the old dreaded "pop and die" thing that has affected nearly every fourstroke trials bike (with a carb) that I've been on. Do you get this with the Montesa, with it being fuel injection and all??

Are there any differences between carbs fitted to two strokes and 4 strokes? For example I have a spare Mikuni originally fitted to a Beta Zero, can I fit it to a four stroke honda engine? I understand the jetting may need changing but is there any other differences I need to be aware of. I ask because I seem to remember that Amal concentrics are engine type specific.

Well here we go pros and cons of cv carbs??? in my experience (limited i know)dont take the top off the carb the diaphram goes in about the size of the carb top,but after fuel has been under it sweels to about twice it size and they where about 50 quid ten years ago,so when you trapped it putting it back in and split the thing it cost loads, will the new beta carb need regular cleaning?? i bet it will. i did have a few little tricks for re assy, but will save them for later..

I am right in thinking that a 4 Stroke engine is normally used for speed, rather then power? So if a four stroke engine is tuned for speed, if it would be used for trials it would be untuned to get a mixture of both power and speed? About the other topic of hating the four stoke, what that all about? They might not look the business, but when it comes into riding they MUST be better or near as good as the 2 strokes. They have to be, riders can't go back down the ladder of technology, after all its taken years to get up it since the 1980's when 4 strokes were in, now with it being in 2003 the technology is far better then it was now. We have a greater understanding of en…

Kon nichiwa/Hola You know how it is. There are some places that you know the name of, and are really quite familiar with, but you dont actually know where the hell it is! Dewsbury Its happened to me once before. Id accepted a career promotion (in a previous life) to Carlisle and the only thing I was reasonably sure about was that it was north of where I was working at the time! So why Dewsbury? Well, as a dyed in the wool four stroke fan, the only bikes to consider when I started were Sherco, Beta and Montesa. But only the Montesa 4RT had the seemingly effortless grip and power, all with Honda build quality. Now those of you who have read my ramblings in the pas…

Noises off…… The precision click of a Parker 25 ballpoint pen. The sound of a Snap-On ratchet tightening a bolt. The rope winder on an ocean going yacht. The burble of a V8 engine. The sharp crack of a Montesa 4RT engine. The irritating high pitch whine of a lone mosquito in your hotel room in the dead of night. Emotive sounds each and every one. Think back, if you will, to bikes and cars you have owned or aspired to own. Then identify which of them you were most attached to and hold the fondest memories. Then ask yourself why. I remember vividly my first push-bike with proper tyres. Passed down from a cousin who had outgrown it and still a little too big for me …
