Hoping for a bit of advice, purchased a 2017 Cota 300RR this year and I notice it has a bit of a knock. I have several friends with Montesas and none seem to knock this loud. I have been told it's normal for them to knock a bit. I've checked valves and cam chain tension but it really sounds like a piston knock to me. I know she's got some hours on her. I suppose a video would be the best way to show you guys, I'll have to get one up here later on. I am concerned I'm going to damage something running it though, but I want to know if I'm going to need to do a piston soon. Hi all might be a daft question but didn’t want to start cutting/ disconnecting wires late at night. Simple job of headlight off to put a number board on, followed the two wires red and black from the light to under the tank (presumed I’d find a connector to just take a part) found the connector under a waterproof cover but seems to pick up a green wire ? Now just wondering what you disconnect to remove the front light ? Didn’t want to cut the wires any help ?

Hello, is someone here has any experience in racing XC or Hare Scramble with 70's Cota 247? I really like the design and the model of the Cota 247 and I have one (1970) for trials competitions only. I'm thinking to purchase anther one for the races above (I prefer the models with the gear lever on the left side). I was wondering if the Cota is up for the task. I would like to hear you opinions.

Hello. I am new, and I am old.... I have this 2017 Montesa that has been so great for me in these challenging times. I purchased it in Jan 2020... just before the lockdowns and all that went along with this pandemic. I monkey with my bike regularly. It's stored in our family room (during cold Canadian winter months); I have a few mods that I'd like to share, and Ive got high hopes some other riders can do the same. Before I go to bed and leave this chatty space, I can say this: when I first got my bike, I added a Honda XL175 kickstarter rubber to the kickstart lever. Hi, I have a 349 white wonder which I've owned for about 4 years. It's tatty as hell but starts and rides well. I've not done much to it apart from registering it for road use, new crank seals, a new OKO carb and a new chain and sprockets to up the gearing so it's usable on the road, which is ineresting to say the least. I use it once, maybe twice, a year so I'm thinking of selling it unless it's worthless 'cos of condition. What do people think? Ideal project that someone will take my arm off for or piece of junk that's not woth its scrap value?

Hello all, after close to 50 years of road racing, I've bought a 1991 Cota 310. I didn't want to spend a lot of money for my first attempt at trials so I'm happy to make and modify parts but I'm a bit lost without a workshop manual. I've searched the internet but can't find one for sale so I was hoping someone on here may be able to help.The swinging arm spindle was seized solid in the bushings so I've fitted new needle rollers amd made new bushings I've fitted new taper rollers in the steering head so the chassis is now OK but without info I'm struggling to get to grips with the engine. I have a 2018 Montesa 300rr with the S3 electric start kit. Best investment ever. However the one thing I don't like about it is that I have to pull the starter motor off to check the motor oil. I've got it down to a science so its not a big deal/ Until tonight. I went to check the oil (good thing I did, it was low) so I started it up according to the manual to warm it up. I used the estart. No issues. Put the starter motor back on like normal, hit the button and it just spins, wont engage the flywheel. After a bunch of rooting around I figured out that the starter is spinning backwards. Anyone have any idea why it would do this? Everything is hooked up properly…

what is the best way to strengthen the front fork (Cota 247 70'): increase oil level use heavier fork oil (current is 15w) use spacers replace spring (the most expansive solution)

Hi guys, this old girl has popped up for sale up the road and, looks like I'll be the new owner. All there, up on it's toes, bit of cosmetics hopefully...ohh, those mudguards😀 It'll join my 1978 247C which is my first ever 'keeper' twin shock having owned an SWM320, TL125, and Bultaco 198B twice. The old 247C is light, nimble, small with a smoooooth and easy engine, we just get on if you get my drift. Always had a soft spot for Montys. I know the 348 was really a 305cc but compared to the 247C, a bigger bike, heavier and, I'm wondering a bike more suited for an expert rider... Hi, I have just acquired a Montesa cota 248. I’m new to the biking world so I need advice! Its in fairly good condition and has been stored in a heated garage for the last 20ish years. Firstly, the last owner told me the gear shifter turns 180 degrees once put into 1st gear. Is this a common issue? If not, is it easier enough to open the gearbox? I work in engineering so have a good technical background. Secondly, it hasn’t been started for years so what sort of maintenance should I do before starting it?

Hi, I have a 1981 349 white wonder and I'm hoping to enter "Herefordshire on the edge" A road trial with some green lanes run by the VCMCC. I'd be interested to know if any one has worked out the MPG of one of these and therefore the range on a tank full. I have upped the gearing a little to 34t rear but can't remember the front and can't see it at the mo' I did lower it from standard. Thanks for looking. Halo, I have a problem with clutch, when I stop a motobike and engine is still working, motobike is not riding there is no chance to put N neutral gear. I have to turn it off then neutral gear is geting without no any resistant. Next problem is that when I push a clutch lever (handlebar) and shift a gear the bike is riding very slow without pushing back the clutch lever. I`ll be very glad to get any sugestions from You.

How long should I expect a tank of fuel to last on a 2005 Cota?

Just seeing that part of Termignoni exhaust turning mat where my leg touches it off the footpeg - in dirty conditions my boots will work like a sandpaper against that carbon-fibre surface wearing it down. I wonder has anybody found a way to protect this part, some heat-resistant sticker to put on maybe? Cheers, Margus

Hi folks, UK post: Apart from the montesa recommended slikolene for the engine and elf for the gearbox what other decent alternatives are used? I've read a few different hours for the engine and gearbox oil changes, for a bike that is not used in competitive trials (does it matter?) what would be a reasonable interval.
