Montesa

  1. Started by bikeskint,

Anyone still alive on here that has any information on the clutch assembly? *******o clutch will not disingage ( stuck in gear) all gears selectable... Have soaked the basket in petrol and doesn't seem to be sticking.. really need an exploded diagram as I feel a crucial part maybe missing.. engine was rebuilt by someone else.. even the tiniest information would be great 👍

As title suggests, I am trying to rebuild my Montesa Cota 310, just wondering if anyone had a parts or repair manual, the engine runs a real treat, just the rest of the bike is the problem! I think the rear linkage is upside down???? Sits very low, so need some info. Thanks in Advance. Ivan

My new 2009 4RT is overheating and my first thought is compression ring blow-by until the ring seats. As an example, I start the bike, warm it up for a few minutes, get up to fourth on a very gentle uphill grade, go about 300 metres, turn around, come back down the street against the breeze and half way back the fan comes on and the engine is HOT. I bled the cooling system to be sure there was no airlock. Should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks.

Hi , Looking to replace the chain on my 4rt as its seen better days and nearly at the end of its adjustment with the allen bolts still in forward holes for snail adjusters in swingarm. It has been running out of adjustment and has worn the chain tensioner block so time for a new block and a new chain, sprockets are good. Can anyone recommend a chain or tell me what link the chain should be ? I have 10/41 gearing so not sure if its stock or not , something tells me it should be 100 link ? Finally , a really schoolboy question and almost embarrassed to ask , can people tell me the best way to check the chain adjustment ? the manual …

I notice from the pics which may or may not be the 100% finished article that the new bike does not carry Fuji's name on it as the last few bikes have carried Dougs. As refering to the world champ , how come Doug gets his name on as worl champion and not Fuji , any ideas?????

  13. Ok folks, hate asking a question that’s been answered many times before, but I’ve looked back as far as 2016 and can’t find anything current on 348 carbs, so............ Ive just bought an early 348, I know they’re a bit Marmite, but it’s a nostalgia trip. It’s the last bike I rode competitively in about 1978 and I thought it’d be nice to relive my youth, also it’s never a problem adding another one to the collection ? She has the original Amal on at present. By the time I’ve replaced the slide, jets, etc, etc I’m half way to the cost of an Oko or similar. Someone since 2016 must have had this issue, researched the far end of all options and changed the carb o…

  17. As my previous threads have said I've bought an unused 2020 260 mont. It is brand new and unused. Oddly I noticed play in the top shock bearing. I tried to tighten up the bolt but it was tight enough. I took off the shock and it appears the bushes do not sit properly in the spherical bearing. I'm convinced either the factory has fitted the wrong bearing to the correct bushes or vice versa. After noticing that my chain tensioner block had been fitted upside down nothing would suprise me. Aren't dealers supposed to pdi bikes ? Im wondering if maybe the factory fitted showa bushes or bearings onto Olle bearings or bushes. They would have had both in the factory for…

  18. Started by oldgit,

Trying to avoid egg-on-face when I come to reassembly. In the middle of a strip down and rebuild of a spare 348 engine I bought a while back. All stripped down and parts labelled but… I've got a couple of left-over parts which I can't identify - can anyone help, please? As you can see, there's a spacer and a needle roller. Found in the bottom of the gearbox and can't work out where they came from. I'm pretty certain they were inside the 'pocket' of the crankcase half where the gearshift shaft terminates. Both are 15mm outside diameter, spacer is 10mm in length, bearing 14.8mm. The only place they appear to fit is within the clutch side crankcase half where the …

Can any of you good fellows tell me how much oil and what grade should go in my 01 315r forks? I'm on the heavy side (15.5 stone), complete novice.... I'm assuming I check the level with the springs out and forks collapsed, is this right? If so, can anyone also tell me the correct level? Cheers Rob
