  1. Probably the death barble. You need a set of security torx to take the jet tower off. The original oring shrinks. Best to order a replacement oring from Oko carbs as they are slightly thicker.

    Beta Techno 352?

The 352 was a mold stamp, not cc. There was never anything bigger than a 260 until the 98 Beta came out, and that was delivered as a kit in a box since it was late in the manufature process.
  3. I know that sounds crazy. But my son rode his first trials at 30 months old on a gas powered bike. The next decade he got many different bikes as he grew. He was a big kid, so his mom had him playing basketball all the time. Finally at 13 he just decided be had some balls. After all he was very athletic and over 6 foot tall. It just snowballed that day. Started off on 4 foot ledges and finished off riding all the expert and Master sections I could remember. It was awesome for me as I hate basketball and hardly went to watch him play. LOL.
  4. Yes, stay after the event. Try, try again and again. Great suggestion. I taught my 13 year old son how to ride expert in 2 hours. He moved up two classes the next event and never looked back.
  5. No, no riding before events. And at some events you cannot even see the sections. Trials is not a local round e round course. That is called cheating. You just need to learn the skills. The reason I do not need to practice is I have the skills. Not only that I find lines that 95% of riders never see. Trials is more mental at that point. Good luck.
  6. https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/the-montesa-cota-4rt-thread.565300/page-180 I changed to a csp before I ever rode my bike. Cut the rubber and siliconed in place. To give access to the side cover gasket withou removing the skid plate. Just installed longer bolts in the rear.
  7. I am just the opposite. I love to ride the events. Practice pretty much not at all anymore. Started riding trials in 1972, went to expert un '74. Thousands of hours riding. Really enjoy just riding a well set event. Dropped down from expert 2 years ago, just can't crash well anymore. I have started to just quit events if they are not enjoyable. I can still ride some of the hard stuff, just hate the stuff that was set that a bike cannot fit. Its a motorized sport, not a pushing competition. And I especially hate riding in groups or score your own events. Trials is an individual sport. If I wanted to just ride with my friends, i can do that for free. Yeah, I also tried just riding what I wanted to in the sections. It confused the scorers and p****d off the organizers. But it was not competitive. I ride against a bunch of old experts. It sure is fun from the mental side of things. Makes me feel younger again, at least during the event! But you should ride what you are capable of. Riding way over your head should be done during practice. It is fun to push yourself though. Yes, it is much easier to just ride in my yard anymore. It is 75 miles to our clubs main riding area. By an hour and a half of full on riding I can call it quits. My son learned all the cool moves right in my front yard on the fanous rt 66. 100's of hours of practice without going anywhere. My 2 grandsons will be over in the morning and just love trials over anything in thier lives. 14 and 15 years old. They play baseball and basketball, plus live as cowboys on a large famous ranch. Gotta love riding. Next event next weekend!

  9. The pro came out in 2002 and gas gas still had the standard edition Txt. You have the pro model engine.
  10. Thats funny. I just aquired one myself. I remember it was rode in an event about 2009. It was FREE, I might someday see if it will start.
  11. Not to worry, Raga rode right over it everytime. Just his last loop it went flying. Did not matter that day as he won the event! We all love watching Bou, but its good to see another rider get a wn. I doubt Raga will ever get a win again. He has had a great career! Thanks for the memories Adam.
  12. They may not be correct compared to the stock bearings. I have had them in my 301 for 18 months and still tight as the bike was new.
  13. Yeah, I have seen Adam abuse that starter in person. Right after he was screaming No fair, No fair in my face and I just pointed to the split marker on the ground he spun off with his rear tire. He was fortunate that day. He beat Bou at TTC in 2013.
  14. Actually you are wrong. You can engage it and still be at the top. That is what you need to get it to spin enough. But you are right, not everyone can do this right. I had the first 300 Raga sold. (yeah a dad from the tdn brought it to the states) I bought it from a guy that could not start it. It took me a year till I got it right. That year I let my son ride it as he could start it. Then again he is 6`5.
  15. Like I said hardly anyone has the ktm made gassers, so time will tell.
  16. It's more to do with the gear being engaged before kicking. The older models the bart gear would chip a small piece off move through the idler gear to the primary gear and get imbedded. Then the bike would sound like the rod was knocking. You had to take a nagnifying glass and inspect the large gear on the clutch basket tooth by tooth to find it. I also witness a friend get his score card at a national and break the clutch cover with one good kick. Fortunatly the U.S. importer was standing there to. He pulled out a new cover and seals. We got the bike going in 45 minutes.
  17. Yeah, I started trials in 1972 I could still ride expert if It did not hurt so much the next day! I turn 64 next week. My son rides very well. He rode his first event on a gas poweted bike at 30 months old. Lol. I have two grandsons that ride. 14 and 15. Hopefully I will see my great grabdson ride too.
  18. Yeah, they made the right center case so you could slide the transmission out without splitting the cases. Since KTM has most of the parts made in China now, we really have not seen many problems or many real trials riders buying Gassers. Gas Gas used to be the best selling trials bike in the USA. Beta is still the best selling world wide. Since I am old and slow ( I did win my class Saturday, but quit Sunday after a clean loop. C Bob was right, I needed a cold beer!) I ride the Montesa 301, but a very trick one.
  19. Here is a great example of the gear and me posting being a dick.
  20. Yeah all you new guys have no clue about the reputation of this motor. And I can`t believe KTM is still selling it. The transmission broke so much they changed the cases so you could fix it without splitting the cases. I made alot of money working on these motors. On the flip side, the motor is awesome when working! LOL I think the last Full transmission I replaced was on a bike that was almost 7 months old. So out of warranty.
  21. You do not have to roll it back. What are you going to do when you are stuck in an awkward spot. Which happens all the time in trials. You just slowly kick it through till you can get the kicker just before top dead center. That is the lever is up as high as it can be to get a better through kick. You also have to get the lever to engage first. The kick starter gear is called the bart gear as it is only a half moon verses a full 360 degree gear as most bikes have. Like Bart Simpsons hair cut. That is one of the weak spots on the gasser as the gear chips off quite easily. The other weak point is the shift drum. That is why the shift lever is designed to bend easily.
  22. I have been here for 20 years, usually helping people. I called his bike that has never ran a pile. You decided I have a drinking problem. Who is the dick from the east coast? Typical.
  23. Captain b. You guys have managed to get this 23 Gasser thread to 6 pages. All the while not fixing the bike or anyhing to do with actually riding one. If we had a moderator it should be moved to the USA thread. God knows that thread needs some help. Or post it under the 4 newbies. I think you all might be drinking the kool aid yourselfs. A lot of BS about nothing. Any how Butch, it will be great to hear if you ever get that thing running or not. You might even get to ride it someday. Or you could use that bike stand to show it off in your nan cave. LOL
  24. Until he can start it, it is a pile. You new guys are in left field. The only conversation that makes sense is slowing the gearing down a little. You should have bought a Beta 200.
  25. Also if you get the CSP dog bone you can get the protector plate too.
