I went for the pro version, havn't used the power setting enough to give an impression. Ridden 2 trials and the standard setting is very good in every way. The old system was even worse than I had thought, first gear is longer and grips better, I have had to turn the petrol screw in about 1/2 a turn ! (Was one and a half turns out previously) My first trial with it fitted was the northern experts, 5 or 6 hours long, and about 6 litres of petrol, so a good varied test. All positive so far. ?

A friend has Maxton's, said they are very good, but no better than the usual contenders which are consistently cheaper. They do look nice however. (not sure of the model number fitted to his bike)

Fork seals don't seem to follow this pattern, if fitted conventionally !

First box is similar to back box in design and function. How do you tell it needs done ? If you ride the bike regularly the sound is the giveaway, it gets louder and tinnier. Bottom end performance drops off. You have established the back box is full of crap, chances are the front one is too.

Generally, inside there is a perforated tube ( usually solid with sh@t ) surrounding this is packing, glass fiber or similar. If it's steel burn it out. My preference is to cut a window and fit a plate to make repacking easier in the future. I use rive nuts and good quality silicone to seal.

Steel or alloy ? Either way it's got to be cut open and re-packed.

Try all the above first. Does it restart when hot ? If not you could have an ignition issue.

If its alloy you may melt it, steel is ok to burn.

Dellorto's can be either air or petrol screw, but as said, the petrol screw are more reliable in daily use.

"Dinging" downhill could be a loose exhaust / air leak. Overhaul 30 - 40 hours !! Every decade more like with standard maintenance and sympathetic use.

Move the point one two places to the left, IMO.

BSA's run a metal slipper tensioner, no spring, just adjust and once set seems to last forever, as does the primary chain. (also running in auto tran fluid) Maybe yours could be modified to suit ?

@pschrauber tell you tomorrow Patrik, long single lap trial with refuelling out on the moors. Typically the ignition would overheat and feel like it was running weak. It's on the TX300.

Competition licenses in Spain are about €300 pa, think I'd rather spend 30 quid to watch a world round. ?

A twin shock would be perfect IMO, 5 litres or more fuel capacity, decent height seat makes them reasonably comfortable. Certainly much more comfortable than a modern bike. Something like an swm is very reliable generally, and with 6 gears is capable of keeping up with traffic. You still have the capability of a trials bike so pretty versatile too. Something like a Pirelli mt43 on the back would wear a bit better, and not be so exciting going round corners at low pressures. A twin shock should also hold its value reasonably well.

New ignition delivered this morning, very easy to fit. It comes with full instructions, but they are almost unnecessary as its very logical. Bike started first kick, all good so far ?
