Finally,I have got round to staring a project I've been thinking about for ages.A long time ago I bought a totally stripped TY175 - because it was there. Then started looking around for an XT225 Serrow engine to go in it,couldnt find one.Last week I took one in to cover a bad debt.My idea is an alternative to a TLR,(which look nice but I could never ride them any sense)but with the added bonus of electric start. Tonight I cut the frame around enough to get the XT motor in and started sussing out measurements for engine mounts etc.Its a bit of a squeeze but it will work,and so far looks like it will make a nice bike.Anyway reason for posting is that the biggest problem I …

I've recently bought a 199 Bult with an aftermarket frame which I thought at first to be a Miller frame circa 78,79.I`m now pretty sure it isn't.Anybody know about Mick Whitlock Bultaco frames?It's not one of Steve Wilsons and I can't think of anybody else who made chrome Bultaco frames in any sort of quantity.

Having seen a bit of the Manx classic/twinshock while I've been at the Manx Grand Prix I'm interested in what basics constitute a twinshock. Other than having two shocks! What brakes, frames, engines etc are allowed, size (as in fork diameter) or age limits. Anything else that should be considered before I start to make something that's not allowed. Even more interested after seeing some of the pit bike engine specials people have made which look very similar to the first bike I ever rode in a schoolboy competition. The rules for classic and twinshocks seem to be even more liberal than those for classic racing. Which I didn't think was possible!

Just found a Kawasaki KT250 (age un-known), toying with buying and restoring it. The bike has obviously been stood for many years, and there is a hole knocked into the right-hand casing that i can put the tip of my index-finger through (this could be repaired or replaced), but saying that, the bike does have a good compression and looks as though it is complete, even has the original fenders and not much wearing-off of the decals. Also there are two cables going into the top of the right casing, one's the clutch (?), but whats the other ? Lastly, what year/years were they made, what is spare's availabillty like and are there any web sites for these bikes. Thanks in adva…

Hi - I have the Amal blues, just can't get good all round performance after spending dough on new jets, needles etc - I have been fooling around with a 2nd hand Mikuni VM26 from a DT175. It is in good clean condition and I have made sure all the jets are clean and operating. I have rigged up a suitable adapter to connect to the original air box. When I kick her over it fires then dies - after a few kicks I remove the plug and it's always wet. I did get her running roughly only at high revs and loads of smoke ( engine must have been loaded up) so I removed plug and left it overnight to dry out ( fuel off). thanks to woody for his advice,the mods are now complete. 1. footrests repositioned. 2. swinging arm length increased by 40mm 3. shock absorbers 25mm longer. 4. forks pushed thru` yokes 10mm 5. handlebar clamps repositioned up and forwards 20mm took the bike to bracken rocks today and happily it is much better,seems to grip and turn in great,the biggest improvement is the riding position,feels more like a modern bike.

Kim Nelson sent me a couple of photos he took at the Kansas City, MO national, probably about 1976. He says the KT250 shown was ridden by Steve Darrow, who I think is from the SF Bay Area though I didn't find him listed in the current PITS roster. The noticeable changes are no frame tubes under the engine, Miller muffler, and a KX250 clutch cover. The headpipe looks to be stock length, and not a long one like I built for my bike. The photos were rather faded so I did what I could to enhance them, but I'm far from being a Photoshop expert. Thanks Kim! cheers, Michael

...because I have always had a real softspot for them, always found them a good looking bike , have always liked Suzuki engineering and owned more than a few zooks...I like to add one to my fleet, look good sitting beside my GSXR-750WN. ...but looking at prices over the last few months tbey seem to be bit of a bargain compared to other twinshocks....what dont I know? There always used to be a fair few doing the rounds in Kent back the day...Cliffe Marshes etc.

Is there any reason "NOT" to use castrol R in a unit motor with a fiber clutch, I have heard loads of different conflicting thoughts. Does anyone actually use it, It will be in a Honda single ?????
