noticed this was my 200'th post..and have been thinking of adding a 200 top end to my 123, I heard back in the day that you could put the 200 top end on a 123 bottom end and there was no difference in the 123 and 200 bottom ends, is this true? has anyone done this? my bike is a '82 model I think, (white tank, red frame) is the 200 actually a 173cc?

Hello,I have a montesa 348,the carb on it is a 28mm JIKOV which is from cech republic,does anybody know wether they are any good,I know it should have an amal, but they seem to get a slating and if I replace it I might go mikuni. Just wondered if anybody knows much about the JIKOV carb,Jawa use them which makes me think it would be ok,any info would be appreciated Cheers John

Has anyone here moved the footrest position or otherwise modified the footrests on a Montesa Cota 348 or similar? Would like to see how you have done it if you have.

Can anyone recommend a good way of sealing a fibreglass tank. Most people i`ve spoken to say these tanks leaked from new and I should try putting some resin in it and rolling it round until it goes off but I`m not convinced this works. Also I`m still trying to trace the bike and would like to know who rode 250 hiro`s in the 84 ssdt as from what little info is available it looks like the top riders were all on 320`s. All i`ve found out up to now is it was 1st registered in the bristol area and its number 71 of 75. Cheers and all the best for 2012

i am considering entering this event next year ( sort of a holiday away from the wife and kids!) and wondered if anybody could give me any info on the event. do people camp? or stay behind the grandstand? a couple of guys i have chatted to at local trials have done it on pre 65 bikes that cost a small fortune, but they both said it was very enjoyable. i was looking more to ride the easy course on a twin shock (ty175). the bike is rebuilt and rides nice but any pointers on the bike front would be helpfull as well. i dont want to win but to have a good few days with like minded people, so is this the right event? thanks for any info/advice. paul.

I need to replace my rear mudguard on my late model MAR, the one with the angles dampers, I am seeking an original or a suitable replacement without resrting to a typical mudguard. If there is any onfo on whom can supply or sell me one, please. Thanks Mark

Hi there! I have recently completed a rebuild of a 1972 247 Cota. The bike is now running well and I even managed to resurrect my worn out Amal carb by replacing just about everything!! The only problem I have now, is that occasionally the kickstart slips when kicking the bike over. The engine was in good running condition when I got the bike, so apart from the top end, it has not been stripped. Before I start stripping the engine, I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on what causes this and the cure.

Hi I have a TLR 200 that I think is a 1982 model - engine number is MD09E-1005889 - that is the only identifying number I can find on the bike. I need to replace the cam chain however the parts manual I have says that the TLR200D uses a different part number to the 200E - are they backwards compatible coz I don't know which model I have and 2 hours on google has taught me nothing

Another couple of early 80's pics from the British Champ round at Hawkhurst. I think this was one of Steve's first rides with the adults.

A little background: Me- 6ft. weight 175lb with gear. Bike- 1970 Montesa Cota 247 with unknown brand of rear shocks. The shocks can be adjust, but I can't turn the adjuster. See photos. Skill level- beginner. where- riding in vintage trials competitions in woods with a lot of uphills and downhills. Goal- keep getting better and score more points. Budget- unfortunately tight. I don't want to spend more than 200GBP include shipping to USA. At first I was intrigue by the OZO "Expert" shocks. A few weeks ago I posed some pics by Carlos Iso of what could have been if Bulto and Ossa had survived. Those pics were orginally posted on Todotrial. Seems Carlos has taken the story a little further, into the late '80's. Anyway here's some more (again, thanks to Yoyi at Todotrial):

this past year with picking up British kit bikes. First last fall with the Saracen, then the Sachs powered Sprite this Summer, and now with a Penton / Wassell. I first bought this bike in 1997, then restored it to a competition level and rode it a lot and like a dummy sold it. Getting it back was like a time warp. All these years it has been sitting on display in an office and it is exactly like it was when I sold it. I hope I don't make that mistake again.

I just recently picked up a Montesa Cota 348 and I am in the process of replacing some parts to make the bike tight and functional again. Alas, it show it's age and use, despite being well maintained by it's previous owners. To date, I've bought new brake shoes and installed, replaced the rear wheel bearings and seals, repacked the front wheel bearings [ they were still good ], replaced a badly leaking shifter-shaft seal, changed trans and clutch oils. I also lightly filed the points and reset ignition timing. I discovered that there was a small hole punched in the case from the kick-starter "bump / stop" on the shaft, allowing chain grease and dirt to enter the ignit…

This poster on hardboard came from the wall of the old Merlin factory. Can anyone name all 4 riders and if so , who are they? I think i know 2 , but thats all.
