I'm after a modern trials bike to ride with my son when he's practicing at our local club. I've just sold my Beamish that I had owned and ridden for two years, but I have never competed. But I'm hoping to change that. People I've spoken to have recommended I go for a 250 as they're much easier on the inexperienced but I'm unsure wether to go with beta or gasgas, and then there's the jotagas. I'd ideally like to spend around the £2000, but could go a bit higher for the right bike. I know I'm probably opening a can of worms, but your advice would be much appreciated.

Hi i have just purchased a 014 beta evo 250 as my first bike as a newbie to the sport, the previous owner has taken off the flywheel weight but has given it to me in a bag of spares with the bike. As a complete novice to trials do i need to put it back on or is it better to learn without it? What is the benefit of having the weight installed? the former owner was a very experienced trials rider so i want to make sure i am not going to have trouble by leaving it off Any advice will be greatly received as this is all new to me Thanks Andy

Hi Picked up a new Mont 4RT the other day. Yesterday I changed the oil filter and replaced the engine oil as per owners manual. Started the bike afterwards no problem. Just gone to start the bike again and can't get it going at all. Any ideas on what to try to get it going again? Cheers Muffin

First trial out on my brand new Raga and it falls off the stand (really) and dings the frame. Not badly but enough to really irritate me. So AFAIK these are the options: 1) Bodge it, fill in ding with araldite and cover with sticker. 2) grind off chrome, fill with brazing and re-spray black (as per 07 Raga?). 3) grind off chrome, fill with brazing rechrome frame ($$$$). 4) drill hole opposite, knock out ding, fill hole. Maybe re-chrome/respray if required. Any options I might have missed or suggestions?

I bought a ccm 644 a couple of months ago so I could nip out and ride off road when I haven't got enough time to get the trials bike out ( and lack of space to practice) but I've been finding it frustrating, it's bloody heavy even though its relatively light for a trail bike, it doesn't lift the front ( guys on the ccm forum have confirmed they're very front end heavy) so if i blip it, it just spins up. Generally I find its not that much fun, I'm hanging on guiding it rather than riding it. Reason I bought a big bike was I wanted something to greenlane on but could do a bit of road work as well, but think it might be the wrong thing and maybe I should just go to a road …

After many years on this forum and the prior Trails Action forum the many times posed question of "Which is the best oil to use in the gear box" has me thinking. After close to 35 years of riding trials I have never heard a rider state "took my gear box apart and the teeth where all wore out and galded" "my gears are all worn down" "my gears have too much play due to wear on them". The point I am trying to make is that how many gear trains did we have go bad due to choosing the wrong type of oil ? I would guess none? I guess what we are really asking when posing the question "Which is the best oil to use in the gear box" is, what oil works best for my clutch in the…

New Trial Publication – what are your thoughts? We are currently exploring and investigating the Trial publishing market with regard to launching a new product into this specialist sector as part of a potential joint venture. However before the project can take the next step we wanted to get the thoughts and feed back from you – the potential readers. Trialscentral is without doubt the largest and best English speaking website, and T+MX remains the UK’s leading weekly off road journal. We are looking to offer a quality monthly magazine that would compliment these two established forms of media. The product would be a high end publication pack…

Hi all. I was going to post this in the scorpa section but thought it might be a little biased ;-) Does anyone have one and what do they run like? I seem to recall some time ago you would rev them and then down to idle would take ages. Like they were pulling in air. Thoughts welcome Cheers

OK guys , who has bought a new 2012 250cc Gas Gas or Sherco, I want to get one but unsure which one to go for, have a 2011 Sherco 290 at the moment but after 5 months of riding it I feel a 250 suits me better, not been able to blag a go on either model yet so I was wondering what the people who have them think of them, good or bad ? I am over 40 rider doing yellow route trials so no expert, I know a new bike wont make me a better rider but I do seem to spend too much time controlling the power rather than riding the bike if you know what I mean, your thoughts would be very welcome,

How did people arrive at their current choice of bike or bikes ? I bought my TX300 Aprilia twinshock as there aren't many about. For twinshocks I'm not really that keen, it's more the social side of the event and catching up with old friends. So I try to buy bikes I didnt own at the time like the Aprilia. The TRS I have is my second one, I'd had a few Gas Gas pro's and I still think they are a very good bike but I wanted a change. I've had Betas before and find them difficult to ride, lots of people ride them well so it's not the bike. Tried a 4rt a couple of times but can't ride them, maybe if I stuck with it but I dont want to spend months learning to rid…

Hi all... So , I have decide to buy a new bike ( new used bike ) , returning to trials after 20+ years .. I looked into this about a year ago, but life was put on hold due to ill relative, but am now ready .. Years ago, I had a sherco 290 , which was my first and only trials bike , I then used a club bike on a event day last year , and then recently I had a day out on a montesa 4 stroke and a TRS RR .. Last year I nearly bought a ossa as they looked good .. So, as it happens I decided against the ossa after reading they went bust , I have also ruled out Gas Gas ... ,I hadn't really heard much about TRS as they wasn't around when I was ridin…

Just a question.. Why is it that forks for our trials bike are not widely sold as a 'part'? For example we can buy virtually any part for our bikes through an importer/dealer or website, but you never see forks being sold or advertised. If I rang sandifords, would they sell Showa forks? Cheers,

Having just busted and banned a UK Trials dealer from all areas of Trials Central for advertising on the Trials Central Forums under a false name, I would remind all readers that advertising of a commercial nature of any kind on these forums is strictly prohibited. The rule is in place to ensure the forums remain a spam-free zone where people can talk about Trials, Trials products and whatever they want to without advertising or people trying to sell to them. As the party involved has learned tonight I will come down HARD on anyone abusing these forums to sell their wares...

Aup, I was wonderin what tyres are best? I found with Michelin they get slashed dead easy, but i heard off people that Dunlops with doing lots of road work the tread falls off!? I'm doing the Novogar championship this year and I seem to be annihilating tyres after every one. At the mo i'm running Michelin on the pack and around 3 - 4 PSI. I'm fed up of riding round on slick tyres, Can anyone suggest what to use or what presure to run? tar.

I'm sitting here looking at all that snow, with nothing better to do than ponder the unanswerable questions of the universe and have been wondering why 3 + infinity = 3? What's behind that concept of allowing unlimited dabs and still only getting 3 points? I know that it's just always been that way, but why? Isn't the idea here to get through the section without trying to get any points? Seems like at every event, there's always a section or two that guys can't get through without paddling through the entire section. Can't even pretend they were riding the bike. I mean come on for heck sakes, I try like hell and manage only 3 dabs, scoring a true 3, while another g…
