  3. Planning my first visit up the SSDT this year. Will be taking my 5yr lad - so, looking for advice on spectating areas that we can get to - without too much of a hike away from where I can park a car? Any recommendations? Thanks!

  6. Doug Lampkin winning his 11th Scottish rightfully made all the headlines. He was however a firm favourite going into the week. I'd like to congratulate Tom Minta on a fabulous and dare I say, less widely predicted result. Best first timer, 5th overall and best under 200cc, Tom rode the Scottish on a 125. Hands up all those clubmen who still think they 'need' a 300!

Does anyone know why Tom is not riding this year? I know he is a fan of the SSDT, but no ride this year. Not sure if it's his sponsors or enduro commitments. anyone know?

It has been an 'easy' winter this year, wet and miserable rather than freezing hard - so the midges are out and about already this year. There are dozens of very expensive anti-midge sprays, etc... but they don't always meet their advertised claims. However, if you are prepared - there is another way to ward the little buggers off. Boots the chemist sell cheap bottles of their own 'Eau de Colgne' - not the fancy 4711-type stuff, just the big old cheap bottle of their own concoction - but splash a little in the palm of your hand and just rub it in any exposed bits of skin and most people will be midge-free all day - and there is a Boots in Fort William! Our last…

Where's Alexz Wigg ? He is on the original entry list but looks like a different rider taken his number. As a previous winner he had to be up there with a good chance.

I was watching the Nevis Radio parc ferme footage this morning on-line. Doug Lampkin appeared to have a massive rucksack, I also didn't see Harry Lampkin in the start queue, so I guess there are 3 possibilities: Harry is not riding, so Doug is carrying extra spares Harry is stowed away in Doug's rucksack Doug is attempting all six days unsupported so has set off with all his food & provisions on day one @andy I hope you are on the case, we need a photo inside that rucksack before the week is out!

So who will win the six days? Dougie must be favourite but I'd love to see Michael Brown win having been second so many times. Jack Price has ridden before on a 125 but should do much better on a 300. What do people think ?

One of the news items this week has drawn attention to the old problem of illegal practising on land/sections used for the SSDT. This jeopardises the event and the Club are rightly concerned about. Once again, the selfish few threaten the enjoyment of thousands (riders and spectators on holidays). Surely it can't be too difficult to scare off/catch the perpetrators?? They must be locals (Lochaber area or slightly beyond) because nobody is going to drive from even the North of England to do this, let alone those from south of Birmingham...!

Am I right in saying, the mighty Honda, have never won the SSDT and if so, why, for all the money they spend on motorcycle sport, have they not tried again and again, until they succeeded? It's the most desirable trophy of all, as a manufacture, in the world of Trials and yet, Honda, or even Montesa, do not bother. As they brand the 4rt in Japan as a Honda RTL and obviously Montesa everywhere else, they could field two teams to enter the SSDT and would benefit from either Honda or Montesa winning, although surely Honda must really want a win, to join Yamaha on the list of winners on the trophy. Might Mr Bou have a chance in the near future to add his name to the the wi…
