Hi All, I''ve almost completed the build of my M158, and took it for it's first spin today. We put the engine together fully expecting piston slap as the clearance was well over service limits and sure enough it sounds like it's got a bad case of it. It's going well enough, first time I've ridden a Sherpa 250, very different power to my old 350. It picks up quite nicely at higher revs when you give it the gas, and the engine is turbine smooth. Anyway, I just wanted confirmation on the piston slap diagnosis from the experts on here. Cheers

Hello, I just bought my first Bultaco its a 1973 Alpina 350. I usually don't buy non running bikes, but this one was in such good shape I went for it. The PO was an older guy who was the second owner. The first owner was his long term friend. I remember seeing spark when I bought it and the compression seemed good when kicking it over. I rebuilt the carb and was hoping to hear it run, but now it doesn't spark. I attached some pictures, because I know you guys like pictures. It has a headlight, taillight, brake light, and kill switch. I don't know if they are stock or aftermarket. My first move was to clean and tighten the wires going to the wire connector block.…

Has anyone tried leaving 3 springs off a M91 or similar clutch to make the action lighter? It has the original steel plates with the pin type retainers.

As the engine turns over there is a very pronounced "click" from the kick start mechanism. Its the ratchet mechanism clicking, like when the kick start returns. My question is, this seems a bit harsh, surely the bike will sound like a football clacker when it runs? I'm pretty sure I have rebuilt the engine properly, the kick start shaft is in the exact same place as it was before, but I didn't test it. Do I have to strip the whole lot down again to change something? A common issue? Edited to add: Sherpa 250 T 1978

I've just put the clutch back together after fitting new main seals, etc. When setting the tension on the clutch springs, how far do I tighten the nuts? I have assumed the tops of the pins and nuts are level, but is this about right?

Can anybody tell me if my wiring might be the cause of not cranking up? Ok black, yellow, and green r coming out of motor. When I got this bike there was no switches on it at all, no kill switch no headlight switch and no wires to tail light. Green coming from motor I got hooked to green wire that runs to that little grounding place under seat, black wire coming from motor I got hooked to coil wire and the yellow I got hooked to nothing. What is the two wires running from grounding place under seat?

As I move forward with my 191 resto, it is apparent that I'm going to need to change out the crank bearings. Does this engine use two or three bearings? The engine has an 85 mm wiseco piston ready to slip in and I was wondering the best route on the small end bearing. Do I have to use the two spacers or can I opt for the wider bearing? Seems the wider bearing would allow movement.... Just don't know. Last: I hate the pin setup on the clutch hub. Any issues switching that out to the threaded type.? thanks for any help. Herman

Got a Bultaco Sherpa m80 project. The swinging arm has two badly rusted bolts welded on for shock mounting. Don't really want shock bushes running on a course thread. Does anyone know if you can buy weld on threaded bosses or get the right size threaded bar or will I have to get something made up? Cheers.

Hi everyone, I'm getting close to applying the decals to my tank and side panels. The sticker kit I have has some bits I'm not sure about. I've had a rummage through the undergarments of the internet but surprisingly can't find any close ups of the top of the tank. My bike is a M158. Does anyone know where the "sherpa" sticker goes? How about the "made in spain" sticker? Finally, the side cover stickers have an arrow next to the 250 text, yet all of the 158s I see photos of don't have that. I guess I should just cut that off? Cheers
