Hi all, I've just taken delivery of a Sherpa T 250 (serial 158) which is about 80%. I want to treat as a slow project to perhaps do the odd twin shock comp, don't want to go mad polishing and that, want to ride it properly. First thing I need to look at is the bottom of the frame, and the clearance to the engine. the frame is in pretty good condition but the bottom rails are a bit squashed, I would imagine there should be more clearance to the engine that this shouldn't there? It feels like the engine is sitting on the rails at the moment. Cheers

Im new to the forum. Before I take it apart I thought I’d see if anyone had any ideas. The photo of the gas tank mounting bolt shows the tank is off the frame quite a bit and the header is still in contact with tank. Any ideas where to start?

Hello Can any one recommed what to do in order to get my sherpa t back into action, The problem is with the brakes, it does not have any!! both front and rear hub have worn through the steel inserts, I have seen hubs advertised but i have never done any wheelbuilding. i am not looking to spend loads of cash if possible, there are enough things to spend my hard earned money on as you will be well aware..the wheels and spokes are in good condition. Thanks in advance.. J

Ok dumb question here. There are two fuel lines that run from the gas tank on an m49. Do I need a tee to connect them or how are these fuel lines run? My manual doesn't show much on this. The bike wasn't all together when I got it. Thanks!

Hi, I'm rebuilding a '70 Sherpa T and was wondering if anyone has experience with gas tank restoration. The bike ran fine until it sat in a barn for the last few decades. I'm wondering the best way to clean it out and if sealing the inside is recommended. I have zero experience with fiberglass tanks. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ryan California USA

I just got the haynes service manual for my 75/76 250 sherpa t Just reading through and it says there is a Gearbox Oil compartment with the filler in the center of the engine at the top and a Primary Chain case filler at the top on the side casing .. goes onto say that you stick 300ml's of SAE 10 in the center gearbox compartment and 500 ml's of SAE 90 Gearbox oil in the Primary chain case filler first off i didnt realise there were two compartments .. secondly the drain for the primary chain case I thought was at the bottom of that same side casing with a long bolt washer head bolt , I drained 450ml's of oil out of there when I got it then stuck the sa…

As above, my newly acquired mod 183 ('76 350) has a slightly bent upwards swingarm on the the left side just forward of the brake stay fixing point. I will attempt to have it straightened but would then like to leave it as original because it still has all the original brackets and clips in place for the stop lamp switch and its cable, which I don't need at the moment but would be nice to keep in place. Basically, I'd like another swingarm to install for some actual Twin Shock competition which won't bend, what would people suggest please? My thoughts are...... 1). Source another 159/183/191 swingarm on ebay or wherever and weld gussets along the the top s…

  13. I need tech advice or knowledge to find if Alpina tank and seat will fit onto a model 92 Sherpa T trials bike for trail riding. I saw an article about Sherpa Himalaya and I believe it states that the 1973 team used Sherpa model 125 and fitted Alpina tank/seat.

I am installing a Gemo light, as original, on a second gen model 92. The Gemo light will have wires coming out under the rear mud guard and routed forward to power. I can see a wire harness exiting the rear guard just forward of the fender mount screw left side in a variety of pics of this era. My question is what mounts are used to secure the wire harness to the curvature of the mud guard?

3 weeks ago I picked up a 199A (1978 or 9 350) to try my hand at vintage Trials. I got a very well used example but it started right up and seemed to run fine. I rode it almost daily as I replaced various rotting rubber parts, missing fasteners and such (including a new air filter). It always started easily and ran well. Last weekend was our premier at a local vintage Trial. We both were doing well, considering our respective age and condition (me and the bike). After the 19th section as I rode slowly between sections the bike died as if running out of fuel or fowling a plug, not a clean cutoff like hitting the kill switch but a brief on/off, trying to stay running before …

Hi all, I have an m49 that I'm starting to restore. Wanted to get your feedback. It needs all paint redone. Since all sherpa t's look similar, I was thinking of doing a flat black look. Black fiberglass, bars, rims, frame. All other metal and aluminum would be polished. My fear is that it will look like a metal mulisha reject bike and I'm not into the fmx crap. Any thoughts? Trying to be different and also not have to do three color paint job.

Hello, I'm fitting a new piston kit to my 159 350 and I have had to fit 3 base gaskets to get the piston height correct. Is this normal? It's a mahle piston. I've also had to machine 2mm from the exhaust side of the skirt as well.My bultaco dealer said I may have to modify the piston. So I just thought I'd ask if anyone else has had to carry out these mod's while fitting a new piston kit. Thankyou

Hi all just getting around to installing the new wiseco piston I got from In Motion for my 199 they were out of single needle bearings so they sent two smaller ones that fit fine. The spacers they sent are flat on one side and sort of dished on the other. I assume the flat sides go against the piston? While trying a dry run on the fitting, I found there isn't enough room to get both spacers in.What am I doing wrong? thank you for any suggestions.

Sounds like an election year question, eh? I'm getting a serious jones for a Sherpa, but I already have 4 different shift/clutch/throttle configurations in the herd, and another just might send me over the edge. Actually...I no longer have a right-foot shifter, so, in some sick way, it might round out my "collection". I do have a left-hand throttle that's good for some very scary moments because the right grip twists too (spark control). Anyway...I know all street bikes had to shift on the left starting in '75, is this the case for offroad stuff, too? I also know that it was a quickly-made rule that caught even HD by surprise, and their first couple years of left-…
