Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

I has recieved today paperwork from Beta UK which I believe is the certificate of newness (I think)? I now need to get the necessary V5 registration paperwork now for proof of ownership and insurance purposess but are not sure of the next step. Can any of you helpful TC people advise me of the procedure here? Thanks

I've got a trials bike that someone has Q plated.....being too lazy / tight to get a dating letter from a manufacturer before registering with the DVLA. I've tried to add it my my Carole Nash multi bike policy but they won't insure it for theft....only TP use. Has anyone got a Q plate bike that can recommend an insurer for TPFT so I don't have to spend my entire life in a telephonic abyss ringing round insurers. Thanks

This has probably been asked before if it has I'm sorry. If I buy a trials bike that is not road registered how do I go about getting it road legal. Is it an easy process. Thanks Ralph.

My old Tiger Cub has been in my possession for 31 years , however when I moved out of my family home 25years ago, I couldn't find the log book, but as I only did the odd trial, and the Christmas engine run up with my Dad (RIP). I wasn't overly bothered , however while going through documents after we lost Mum, I found the original Log book in my name , So I sent it off to the DVLA, with covering letter .... Much to my surprise I have had a two month correspondents ping pong, even having to Photograph the frame number , number plate , etc.... But have finally been told its being processed ... Is this now the norm ?

Hi everyone, I have a Montesa 247 reg PWV 31H purchased back end of 2016. The reg is not know to DVLA so I have to complete form V55 and also suggest completing a V765 and endorsed by the Owners Club to validate the information on the form. Can any help as to whom I can turn to in order to complete this form. I live in the Consett area in the North of England. The bike itself appears to have an interesting past originally purchased in 1969 by Stewart Wiggins and some association with the Laurence Telling who purchased Montesa 247 PWV48. i went to register a bike today all the correct documentation etc to hand having done it loads of times.. however.. you cant read about it anywhere on any websites or even on a poster but the process for registering a vehicle has changed significantly.. virtually all local dvla offices are closing in december and all applications will ahve to be done by mail.. in the meantime significant changes have alrady come into effect on 15/04/13. you need to do this for all vehicles built in the uk or not. you must have a dating certificate from the original manufacturer.. if not you must have a letter from the manufacturer stating that they do not have records or did not build…

I am considering buying a Suzuki RL250 which has a Whitehawk frame. The bike is not registered. There are no numbers on the frame and I must be able to road register this bike in order to use it on road trials. There must be quite a few Whitehawk framed bikes out there and some must be registered. Can anyone give me a steer on what I need to do.

I am well aware this has been done to death and I have scoured the postings to date. situation is this: I purchased a Bultaco 198A about 9 years ago, it was purchased secondhand from a private individual, can't remember exactly but about £300 I think. to the best of my knowledge it has never been registered. After many conversations with DVLA/HMRC it now appears despite what the form says that you do NOT need insurance to register a trials bike for road use. You DO however, need an MOT, proof of purchase/age and when it was imported literature etc. NOW you also need it to be registered with the HMRC on their NOVA database. This cannot be done online and you have to telephone them on 0300 200 3700 for a nova1 form. I'm only putting this on here because the DVLA info is scant. Be warned that phone calls to the HMRC CAN TAKE UP TO 30 MIUTES TO BE PUT THROUGH TO THE RIGHT DEPARTMENT. Hi I'd like to get my enfield crusader road legal , but ive only got the old log book style reg document and ive never changed to the modern doc as i believe the log book would have to be sent in and would be lost is this correct ? could anyone here clarify the procedure ? thanks greg

Hello Just after some advice. Pretty much getting there with the registering my Yam TY175. On the case with NOVA, have a dating letter from Yamaha etc. Just completing the V55/5. As trials bikes are exempt from type approval, can I leave all the boxes that say 'get this information from the certificate of conformity' blank? Or is certificate of conformity something completely different? Wheelbase, Mass etc? Thanks for your help. Cheers Dave

Having just received back my V5 for road registering my TXT 280 (thanks to all those who gave advice) I am now wondering what is an appropriate size of registration plate to get. The same size as my road bike would look daft, and yet some of the ones I saw at a trial today are no bigger than the width of the mud guard. I understand there is a legal requirement but wondered if there was an 'accepted' size for a trials bike?

Like many it appears; I have been through the get the bike insured TPF&Theft so I can register or tax it . Like many,... I suspect,,, I can't understand why my Evo is not recognised by the competitive search engine type insurers) and even when after trawling around for best deal with a broker/ insurer who will issue cover it seems I have to put up with them listing the bike as a grey import. Just collected new EVO 200 2010 ha ha! dead chuffed.......Can anybody reccomend good (including best price) insurer to get road tax who might just recognise Make model etc. Just spoke to my current insurer (... broker called Aquote.. who had previosly insured my rev3 200 who in turn put the bis with Norwich Union..fully comp 85 quid last year I am ancient!....) They went through usual stuff called the underwriters etc who came up with 165 quid and a lot of huffing about racing off road use etc. So is ther somebody out ther who wants to insure my bike against theft from most secure garage ever and maybe 500 miles a year at top speed of say 60 mph?

Hi Booked my Sherpa in for MOT with a local comp shop (the owners son rides trIals). He said that if it was fitted with a IRC (TR 011R) rear tyre then they are not marked for road use and the bike will fail the MOT. Examined the tyre and, no 6 digit number or E marking. So does that mean that nearly all the competitors in Classic trials riders that use the Highways are not legal:- NO MOT THUS NO INSURANCE Comments please!!! Regards Martin

Hi all, I'm looking to register my TY. I've contacted Yamaha, they cannot provide any details as the factory records no longer exist. They have suggested contacting an owners club to obtain age verification? I have emailed DVLA with details downloaded from web sites, to confirm age ranges, these are not acceptable to them as proof of age Does anyone have any ideas how I can get proof of age?
