Hello All, 2011 4RT 4 months into my ownership had burnt out a fan motor (and in the process melting the central boss of the plastic fan itself). I got a new fan motor (and plastic fan blade) fit them both (spinning freely and running as it should seemingly) but after approx 15 hours riding later the new fan motor has... burnt out melting the fan centre again! Surely this cant just be bad luck can it? Why might that happen twice ? Its not catching - so I doubt thats the problem. So far as I could tell the fan would run perhaps 5 mins after a cold start and would run and stop periodically as needed. Might it be a relay or voltage regulator thing. …

Not wishing to appear insensitive at all, but i used to send my PTB back to MSport to get my maps changed! Does anyone know another option?

Hi Have just bought a montesa cota 348/349 ?? can anyone out there help identify what ive got before I go looking for parts, chassis and engine numbers match 51M24661, the frame appears to split and has a sump guard at the bottom and has been painted white (badly) should this be black not seen a white one??. So the 330 has always been smokey as long as I remember, but in the past I've just put it down to my dad using old oil This time I've had the carb apart, given it all a bit of a birthday and this is it running on the same fuel that's in the Dalesman. I'm improving my 4rt after riding it for a year as standard and knowing it can be turned into a greater bike with some nice alterations. First thing, I know it's already a great bike and Toni Bou could win on it but I want to make it better for myself, mr ordinary. Really do quite fancy a 2014 4RT but folk keep informing me they have no grip in the mud. Is this just a myth? Half of them probably haven't ridden one. Is the new bike better than the old bike? Really is an important factor as up here in Scotland riding conditions are often boggy and muddy. I went from a SR 280 Scorpa which I loved to a Tr280 Ossa. The ossa is a great bike but just feels too light in the front end for me. So, as most of you know my story I won't bother with that but in all my fettling to try and get it working I reset the points gap to open at 2.5mm before TDC. It was timed differently the the last owner previous to this reset. I use a cigarette paper in the points to feel the moment that it releases. I now experience a situation where she wont rev all the way out. It also feels nasty at high revs and looses power. I am wondering if the previous owner had the timing slightly advanced maybe? I know there is no advance mechanism so it's all about setting it where I'm happy with and getting it to run nicest in the rev range that I intend to use most, but at the moment des…

Hi Some of you will know that I have been restoring my early Cota over the past 12 months. I have been searching for an Electronic Ignition system for the past 6 months, not because the original setup was unreliable, just that I could not be bothered to take the flwheel cover off every week to let the condensation dry out. Then fiddle setting/cleaning/checking the points gap through the flywheel. Am I lazy? Perhaps but really I just want simpler maintenance and more reliability! I quiet fancy an upgrade from my trusty 09 250 4rt But As the advert goes I really like the Repsol and I also really like the new RR (and think the showa suspended bikes are the best) But Is a standard 250 with say an Ohlins rear shock be the Aldi version? The std bike is £2000 cheaper and I'm sure there would be change out of that even if you change tyres as well to Michelins. I really do want a Repsol but my tight northern upbringing is making me ask the question!!!. I have no knowledge of the tech forks so any input appreciated.

I'am the proud owner of a barely used 03 Montesa. Would like to know what gaurds you may have found to be worth the money? I see there is long fork gaurds and short fork gaurds, aluminum ones and carbonfiber. Also, case covers, head pipe protectors and so on. The gaurd for a thrown chain looks like money well spent. Please list any more Ideas and also dealers who carry these Items and stock parts. Took the plunge recently and bought a 4RT. I'm getting along with it quite nicely, love the suspension and the power characteristics 99% of the time, the exception is hillclimbs. The bike doesn't rev high and doesn't develop power, it produces low and midrange torque by the bucketload, but when you need to really fly up a hill it won't. The bike is exactly as it came out of the box, investigation shows 3 diametric restrictors in the exhaust and one immediately after the throttle body. The one after the throttle body was the surprise, it's a disk completely filling the intake with a tiny (guess 10-13mm dia) hole punched in it low down. This I assumed was the problem, in…

Looking at the recent indoor pictures the (08 works bikes) repsol logos size shape etc, and of course wheel and tank colour don't match mine , so what have I got? A repsol replica of what?

I've had my new bike out for one ride so far, and have a little hr meter with RPM guage that tracks max rpm's and it seems to be reading low.. At idle the numbers seem logical, but when revved out it seems low. So what is approximately our max rpm? I would have assumed over 10,000.. But maybe with the heavy flywheel and restrictive exhaust it just can't get there? Anyone?

Hey all I may be getting a 4rt with a 2 map PTB soon and was wondering what maps people recommend. Or is the standard maps the best to use. I have heard mentions of Maria Sanz map being very good but unsure how that is different from standard. I will get a shop to redo the maps for me until a get my laptop working so I would like to know what to ask for. I was thinking something along the line of: map 1: A road/ fast map as I ride alot of trails on the bike. But I am unsure the best way to achieve fast acceleration and top speed map 2: something a little mellower with lots of torque. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks Scott

Hiya all, I've taken two springs out of my 4rt clutch and put dimpled plates in which has given a lovely clutch but slips in high gears. I am looking for a heavier duty spring to replace two of the existing 4 springs with to stop it slipping. Problem is that the 4rt ones are 27.6mm long and the uprated 315 ones are 39mm. Anyone know of where to get hold of 27mm uprated springs?

i have a 2002 montesa 250 in mind for my next bike as it is good price and good condition, but are there any known problems with the 02 Mont and i currently own a 1984 Yam 250, will the 02 250 engine be alot more responsive, in other words will i be safe on it! Thanks in advance Rich
