Montesa

  1. Started by johnnyboxer,

A question for the lads who ride them in the Scottish, what are they like on the road? What sort of speed will they maintain on say 10/41 gearing? Anybody tried a 36t on the rear, to speed them up a bit Thinking they would make a better bike than a Beta Alp/Scorpa T ride/Radonnee perhaps with a long ride seat/tank perhaps

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I could not find anything via searching here. No defeat strategy appears obvious to me. I'm unwilling to pay Mitani's price, or to remove it completely. Has this been a "feature" since the bike's introduction? TIA.

Some debate on another thread. BVM said to run mine in on Castrol TTS @ 50:1 then change to 66:1 to run from then on................but never run the bike......... as the Montesa manual states with Elf @ 80:1 (too lean). However the Castrol TTS bottle says to mix @ 50:1 only Confused.......?? Think I'm going to run Castrol TTS @ 50:1 all the time................ Anybody shed some reliable light on the said subject............for the 315? TIA JB

  5. Anyone knows consequences of the fire please? I consider buying used 2023 4ride from a buddy but now doubt Honda is going to rebuild the factory. Main question for me is availability of the engine parts in the future. Any advice on this regard is welcomed)

Hi Just pick up a 349, and the front brake cable is on it's limit so no ajustment, so where's the best place to source cables. It also has no side stand, where can l source one of these, or is there a generic one that can be fitted. I cannot see a place that it fits onto? Only given it a little run around the garages, seems to be running fairly well, it has not been used for some time, but should the front come up easily, it seem to need a bit more effort that l thought it would? And lastly why 2 sparks plugs fitted? Other than the above am very please with it, done some very tight fiqure of 8's easily clucth fully out at very low speed overall impress with my new t…

  9. Hi there, last activities in the Bultaco section... but now talking about my latest Montesa. There is no sparc so I decided to take things off to simplify the lot. No lights, horn, switches ... and ended up with 4 cables comming from the engine... all pink, burgundy and puple cables gone (never seen that before 🙂) Now, I would expect the black going to the coil, the red from the lighting was to ground, but will be gone, once I managed to open up the little nut on the bracket... so I have a green, white and yellow left... on my Bultaco it is the green one to earth... for the Montesa I could not find anything to help me sorting things out yet. Any help welcom…

Morning all, Bought a 97 315 the other day with a top end rattle, seems all pretty original. Managed to source a barrel, piston and rings from ebay which is in good condition. Replaced the little end bearing, gaskets etc etc. Put it all back together and the rattle from the top end has seemed to have gone, but now i can seem to hear a noise but not sure where from, just doesnt sound quite rite. Pulled the cover off and had a pull and play with the flywheel and doesnt seem to have any play in it. The big end on the conrod didnt seem to have any play in it also. So.....Just wondering what it could be? is there anything else that seems to make th…

Hi anyone had any experience or problems with the 4rt being hard to start? Is it most likely to be electrical(capacitator) or mechanical(compression) or something else? When it's running it feels a bit flat and doesn't sound sharp? Any advice appreciated.

  14. Hi everyone, My name is Mike and live in Wiltshire. There seems to be a lot of help and support on this website so maybe someone can help me with my problem... I have just bought a 1980 Montesa Cota 349 which as you can see from the photo is in lovely condition. BUT I can only select 1st, 2nd and neutral gears..The clutch cable had been adjusted to maximum so thought maybe replacing this might help matters bearing in mind I couldn’t select neutral when the engine was running. The new clutch cable was fitted and neutral could now be selected with engine running and also 3rd gear was available if you lifted the lever hard enough ( not ideal ) 4th and 5th are nowhe…

2021 4RT. The pointy bits (if you have one you’ll know) of the graphics are lifting. Only a tiny bit. What’s the best remedy and/or glue? Obvious option would be superglue but I don’t want residue which is impossible to remove! Any ideas much appreciated.

Any one care to flash a ferret at this? 05 4rt never been a problem. In a small trial yesterday, short laps low entry. While riding the second lap just about non stop cos there were no que's i did the second lap without re fuelling tank was below half full i stopped half way round the lap to rest, it was really hot and sunny, i got talking to various people and had left the bike ticking over. I must have sat about 5 mins with the bike ticking over perfectly. I entered the section opened the throttle to climb a small rock and the engine just died, felt like i had not turned petrol on and it was running out of fuel however i closed the throttle and it ticked over perfectly…

My 4rt is getting to be a pain to start when it's warm. From cold it will start on the 1st kick virtually every time but when it's warm it's hard going. It's only 14 weeks old, the air filter is spotless as is the plug, I only use good fuel not supermarket rubbish and the tick over if anything is a bit on the high side. When it does fire up it struggles to pick up and then dies, I kick it over slow with full throttle to reset it and this doesn't work but like I said when it's cold, first time Any thoughts?? Andy

I have a 2001 Cota that has approx. 100.000.000 miles on her an' she is popping out of 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. Also leaks oil from between the skidplate and the cases. I think it could still be under warranty? Don't the manufacturers back their product any better than this? I tried wedging a screwdriver handle in between the skidplate and the sump but it still pops outa' gear. Maybe I should change the gearbox oil to a thicker weight? Would this eliminate the schreeching noise in the clutch when I downshift from 5th to 1st at 60 mph? Thanks in advance for your replies, Jay Lael.
