  1. Before you fit the tank why not send it to an alloy fabricator, someone like the guys at GMX (they made the original fat tanks for the Gassers). Then turn some cash into some stock like the picture then the stock into even more cash for even more 4RT bits. Can't believe that in the country that is renowned for its F1 type engineering skills that you have to exchange an item with Japan.
  2. The Dabster always drives like that - back seat is the safest place
  3. Get the Dishes crew to go up and observe - I'm sure the Richmond guys can use volunteers. Its a blast trying to observe half a dozen bikes through the same section at once - whilst making sure you get all the results down in the book. Personally, I have proven to myself that me and the 4RT would be out of time pretty much from the word go - so I'm happy to watch how it should be done.
  4. Its all about image and marketing ! What's Hot, what is not - Cool vs. Un-Cool. Image is everything in the 21 Century. Just ask anyone over 6 years old. Look how popular DownHill MTB is vs. Cross Country MTB. Baggies vs. Lycra - Beer vs. Orange Squash, party animal vs. early nights (I speak as a ex-cyclist: Road, Cyclo Cross and Cross Country MTB - so don't take offence). Initially DH was the same guys that raced the Cross Country, image is now poles apart - DH has cut its own niche. There's no cross over any more - which one is more marketable ? Where are the sponsors putting their pennies in MTB ? Valentino, Max, Haga all 'names' vs. Kenny Jnr, Bayliss, Loris - guys with talent but a much lower profile image. Its not about bringing hooligans into the sport, Rossi and Haga have a hooligan image but they didn't get where they are without being extremely talented. Where are the sponsors putting their pennies in MotoGP? Its about trying to create a wider appeal, bringing interest from other street sports such as BMX, Skate etc. Even to other motorcycle sports, what should be a friendly audience, the lycra is a bit of a barrier. vs. the latest set of leathers with chrome trim. IMHO Trials needs a 'make-over' - 10 Years younger
  5. Never say Never ! Firstly, I think it needs something different as I have said before for TV. Could be something completely different to what we watch at outdoors for example. Very different I think. I worked for the Beeb a few years ago and got a good understanding of how programmes are commissioned. No established Exec/Producer would take a risk on something that isn't going to be a ratings winner - its too competitive. MotoGP came to the BBC after ratings were proved on BSB/WSB/MotoGP coverage on other channels. Eurosport has very little interest in Trials now, it gone to the graveyard of Eurosport 2 in daytime/early evening. There would be little/zero rights money - DIY SOS etc cost very little to make and will always draw more viewers than a fringe sport event. My own thoughts are that it needs to be an 'extreme' / Red Bull type pitch - dump the lycra, go baggy - goaties, piercings, grunge - urban events, City centre, concrete hazards etc, X-Games style - youth appeal. Sort of thing that would be on the Extreme Channel.
  6. Get and Excel rim laced up to one of your existing hubs. (contact Talon for a price) Might be marginally heavier, but much stronger than the Morad rim - I think there only made of chocolate anyway. (1.6 x 21) Jarvis, Connor used this set up.
  7. I can't agree with you FF on this one, Rear rim is the old Akront tubeless (doesn't have the little cut outs on the flange). Timing case is brown not grey. Still looks like a '99 to me. I did have a '99 with a chrome pipe - don't think its that bike as it had a V5. I think the moral of this thread is let the buyer beware.
  8. Rear rim isn't a DID, those started to be fitted in 2K - just doesn't look anything later than a '99 to me
  9. Here's the contact details for the UK Dellorto Importers, really helpful, will build a carb up to your spec. http://www.dellorto.co.uk/ Betarev3, there just over the border into North Berks - very handy if you need to get hold of jets / slides / needles etc.
  10. The bike was made no later than '99, could even be a 98. The 2Ks onwards had Showa forks. Not worth

    Factory 4rt's

It could be top secret and I may be sworn to secrecy. Best I ask you at Hawkstone when you've had a beer or two then.

    Cota '04 Clutch

I ran an 04 with 3 dimpled and 3 plain plates (if I remember the numbers right). As the 'pack' wouldn't disengage with all the dimpled plates in - they are too fat, so drop some out and stick a couple of std ones back in. 315 Clutch is so over engineered this will not cause any problems. What oil are you using ? The best clutch I could get was using elf htx, tried ATF, Clutch Tuner, etc and never managed to get it as slick as with elf.
  13. If you check on Index 1 of the France WTC Supporters pics you'll see that the works bikes have a similar guard in play.

    First Mont

A little tip... Don't mess around with the petrol tap, turn it on and leave it on - 5 years of 315s and it was never a problem, until you turn the tap off.

    Bling

They don't, but <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> do - check the Mitani Page on their site. If you can find them. The post-2001 315 rear wheel will fit the 4RT with the std spacers. The 315 Front will fit as well. But they are 36 spoke so will be marginally heavier - not a problem when the bike is caked with mud and I'm at the helm. If an old Monty wheel needs a rebuild, beware as the 'bi-threaded' nipples will cost

    Sanz !

Wow... 6 for the day, all single dabs, same as Colomer and Jim Lampkin. Plenty of 'names' have cast away double that! Very Impressive!
  17. On a meter to, but I'm not allowed to use it now. Looks like I'll be saving on my bill then
  18. Are you out the new ride at the Reeth 3 Day then? Or does your intercontinental 'Boozed up .....' take you on a foreign adventure. If you're at Reeth can you rotivate the sections again for me? Shouldn't have any carb problems this year
  19. Welcome back from the Wilderness!
  20. I'm with Perce on this just stick the softer map in and ride. Don't change anything else. Much improved down here in the mud, and also not lacking on steps. Looking forward to dryer weather and trying the std map again and the power-up map. If your not riding sections you might find it a bit flat - but it works really wel in a trial. Only complaint is that it doesn't go up my favourite 4th gear climb quite as well on the mild setting - but still gets up without spinning out at the bottom.
  21. Absolutely - imagine what would happen with no time limit. Seen the hanging around the first section plenty of times - then its a mad dash to the finish. Time management is a fact of life - down to the rider to decide if its better to press on or hang around.
  22. Again? Not guilty this time

    315 Gearing

From memory 10:42 is about the best bet. Some prefered 43 or even 44 on the rear, but this seemed to make bottom very short. I felt the 42 Rear was about right, gave you good use of first 4 gears and if ever you couldn't decide between Bottom and Second, you could always use bottom and not run out of steam.
  24. Don't know about the pipe. But..... HRC have released an official 260 kit. Complete with switch to change your map to suit conditions and looks to include a different cam. Japan are only getting 50 kits for the whole country. Picture courtesy of the HRC website.
