The highly mentioned Ryan Young trials training DVD's are readily available, if out of stock in the UK. Both Basic and Advanced versions. Two methods, Direct at www.RYPUSA.com, via online/phone orders and charge cards $49.95 or about 31 quid. Post to UK is package rate at $14.95 or about 10 quid. 41 total. No Paypal. Indirect, costs the same at what equated today at 31 quid things, but I can get a bit better rate on the post and package at 3 quid, and I will accept the Paypal on it if needed, yet may take a bit longer at 34 quid. I am not available to run to the postal office on demand, so adjust. Normal post times are 6-10 days. I make squat on naut, so pick your pr…

Hi guys I thought I would start my own thread, hopefully where I can get some advice on "my" techniques. Im not very good....yet....but im working hard at it. Ive been riding for just over 2 months and try to ride for a hour everyday in my little obstacle course. What has improved dramatically is my ballance and throttle/clutch control. I still battle to use my rear brake and dont use it as much as I should....im guessing? ? Im slowly starting to hop the back wheel higher when doing that zap thing. Ive only started noticing now how much practice helps. Ive been frustrated up to now but today everything kinda clicked and I felt I rode good. I have a route marked out th…

I have seen ideas for off the bike balance exercises. However, has anyone tried a non bike related exercise to improve timing? timing...as in a double blip with unload over an obstacle. It is one thing to know what needs to be done and another to time/ coordinate those activities together.

I know there is no substitute for learning to ride a trials bike other than actually riding it. But, for those times when I am stuck in the house. What is the best training DVD for beginners? So far I am lead to believe that the Ryan Young DVD is the best, but it is very expensive.

I rode trials bycicle before and its rear wheel closer to pedals than motorbike's rear wheel to foot pegs, so i just have old habit of feeling WHERE the rear wheel is and cant put it precisely Learning now how to get over one little stone to another, jumping on the rear, but always dont get exactly up on second stone, afraid to overjump the gap (little) lenght. Even when trying to jump to road's small border, dont get on it, cause if i was on pushbike, i'd be on border, but trials bike's wheel is bit far.. What useful exercise make me put the rear wheel precisely and how to reteach myself from pushbikes habit? Thanks.

I've been practicing hopping the front wheel and getting better every time. However, I find that hopping to the right (rear brake side) is almost impossible. Is the technique different when hopping to the right vs the left ?

Hi, I get lower back pain when doing long distance trials over moorland. A friend said that the getting the raised fatbar clamps can help this. If this is true wich are the best ones to get ? I have entered the scott this year so I am trying to be as fit as possible, this is my main problem so if you could help that would be much appreciated. Thanks

  12. Hey all, so I come from a background of enduro riding and rmec racing, so nothing super tough. Im not a skilled rider, just your basic trail, single track and "rougher" enduro rider. Many times, I still sit on rocky terrain and obstacles (to give you an idea of my riding level). As some of you know I am starting off with a trials 300 txt gasgas, and I have no idea where to begin or do ha ha. so here are some questions. Yes I know youtube has a lot of videos, but I still feel like I need to build up to get there. Im hoping one day I can meet a trials rider in Colorado so they can show me how to start. As of now, I dont think many events are taking place since its winter. H…

Howdy, I have to have a total knee replacement and I was wondering if anyone else has had one and gone back to riding? Specifically: How long until you were competitive again?,What things could you not perform that you could before?, Any other words of wisdom? Thanks in advance for the information.

  16. for 1-2 ft logs, I think I have been doing it all wrong. And it has really come to light as I try to do double blip. Basically I have been raising the from wheel with the intention to hit the top 1/4 of the log approaching the top of arc of travel of the front wheel lift. Then a buddy pointed out to me to try to land the wheel to hit the top 1/4 of the log, but **on the way down** of the arc of travel of the front wheel. As soon as I touch, another blip to raise the front again, to expose the back wheel and over I go. Attached are a couple of pics. What do you all think?

I've decided to build my lad an obstacle course in our back field for him to practise on his Gas Gas Boy. I've managed to pick up 20 odd pallets and a cable drum so far and going to go to work on them this weekend with a hammer and a saw... Would REALLY appreciate some suggestions for other obstacles to use or build into our course. Thanks - Matt.

I've the basic full lock turn technique on hard grippy surface down, but on a slippery surface like hard pack dirt covered with loose dirt I keep getting into trouble with the front wheel pushing, sliding on the dirt, enlarging the turn. So I am wondering what's the best technique: keep the bike as straight as possible and lean it in the turn as far as possible? Or anywhere in between. Weight inside / outside peg? Inside / outside bar end? Weight or un-weight the front wheel? Anything else? Thanks. DC
