Hi, How to decide, if junior-frame or fullsize frame 80cc. Both kids are riding, one with Beta Jr 80cc and other decided to ride petrol, so we'll ditch the Oset. Both are same size 12yo 155-160cm height. Should we take Beta/GasGas 80cc full size frame or Jr/cadet frame as a second bike. So one of them would advance from Jr to fullsize frame. For me it seems quite natural to keep them both on smaller frame for a year or so. But there are some riders advocating for bigger frame without any proper reasoning. It seems that bigger frame (and tires!) are easier to balance and better climbing on natural obstacles. But on the other hand I'd like them to practi…

Hellloo, I am currently training my stoppy and wheelie (or wheel hop) teqniques, and especially moving the back wheel goes better and better. I am struggeling however to combine both teqniques. As an example riding down a log, making the backwheel go to the right 90 degrees and landing, and than I want to place the front wheel a little more in the turn to ride a wall of the small concrete pipes. This is where it goes wrong. The location is a bit sandy, so doing the turn without wheel moving teqnique is very difficult. When I land the back wheel, I want to lift the front wheel, but it starts sliding away (because its not totally flat). I think this is because I fir…

I know that this is a very advanced technique and most of people can only dream about it, but I just wanna make sure I m on the right track! I can do several complete stops while wheeling like slow holding pressure, lets say 7-8 on a good run. I m not fully controlling the direction but I m also trying to stop for as long as possible each time. My questions are: What gear should I be training this?? I usually use 1st. it seems easier to bring the nose up and requires less distance... anyone out there that hops well on the rear? what gear do you use? is there any terrain I should look for?? like, I thought about few small 4" diameter logs lined up just far…

Hi guys, I'm training for the season and just having an hard time lifitng the rear wheel. I can get over a 70cm 90 degrees wall but I nearly roll up. I tap 15cm below the edge and then jump on top to deweight the rear but it doesn't want to come up enough. If I do it on a 50cm obstacle no probs but not higher. Any hints? Thanks

New moto trials rider. 2006 Beta Rev3. I'm trying to get the rear wheel off the ground to do some endos and whatnot. I'm not finding the power I really need to get this done. I've tried "jumping" like I've read in a different thread, but it doesn't seem to happen. I can nose wheelie and endo a bicycle with ease, using one finger on the brake. The only way i'm able to get enough power on the moto is to use two fingers and pull really hard. As I'm new to moto trials I'm wondering if the front brake needs maintenance? Or is this just a technique thing? The pads look thick and everything looks clean. Plenty of fluid too. Is it common to need two fingers or should…

Hi all, does anybody know of someone running specifically pre 65 or classic trials courses? I've heard lots of good reports of Mick Andrews training, but having searched the web I can't find anywhere to book.

Hello again (expect many more questions! hehe) Okay so today i setup some basic home obstacles, 2 foot rocks etc, (first day ive ridden trials), im clearing them easyily.. Ive been trying to work on my hopping, watched a few videos etc, Im just wondering, when you apply the rear brake do you put your whole weight on the rear brake? Because when im trying to do hops, i hold both breaks and when i pull back the wheel turns... so either my break pads are worn or im not holding break enough. To get the wheel to completely lock up i have to apply so much pressure that the break is maxed out, is this a sign of pad wear? or maybe cable needs adjusting? Thanks

hi folks I am new to the arena of trials and have just purchased a 1985 TY 350. The bike runs as sweet as a nut but the previous 2 strokes I have ridden has had a more aggressive power delivery mine is very smooth right up to 3/4 throttle loads of torque but from 3/4 to wot the power stops building it doesn't drop off simply nothing more happens. It is standard bike it had a 145 main jet and a 38 pilot jet in the standard carby. I have changed the main jet to a 155 to see if it was short on fuel and also moved the clip position on the needle from the centre position to the lower clip position. Are these style of bikes all torque less aggression as MX bikes tend to be the…

Hello, I haven't been on this forum in absolutely ages so I'm sorry if I break any rules by posting this here. Basically, I am starting the Blue route this year and I am very good at balance so that isn't a problem. I can spin the bike round without putting feet down but can not do it from a stand still and can only spin it about 80 - 90 degrees. So some technique advice on spinning the bike from stand still would help; I know it is practice and I have been, just want to make sure that I am using the right sort of technique to do so. I think that's it to be honest. Being as doing blues this year there is a lot of tight turns that you will not be able to ride around sort…

Does an undercut log on a slope (10 to 20 degrees) require a different technique than one on the flat? I struggle with one maybe 18" diameter several inches off the ground. Timing seems difficult and there is a tendency to touch the front wheel and get the bike very vertical. This just results in the bash plate sitting on the log. The odd thing is that bigger more undercut logs on the flat are not so difficult. Other people do not seem to have this same problem. I understand a Jap Zap may be the technique to use but am not that accurate with front wheel placement and stand a good chance of just stuffing the wheel into the bottom of the log. For that reason, the whee…

Ryan Hughes is a student at the same institute I study at, I know he's Supercross but theirs a crossover to trials so I thought some of you who're interested in training may be interested in this article about Ryan and my mentor Paul. Dirt Rider article about Ryan Hughes training facility Paints a pretty good picture of how we should all be training not just elite athletes.

I just switched from a 290 to a 200 and like it everywhere except for big steps. I suspect that the technique is different but could use some input. The obstacles are about 4' tall granite with a little bit of slope. They are either tall enough or maybe the slope is enough that you do not have to worry about hitting the bash plate. On the 290, I could approach at a walking speed, hit the step part way up with the front wheel, use a fair amount of throttle until the back wheel hit, chop the throttle and let the flywheel pull me up. The 200 has less initial punch when the front wheel hits the step and lacks the flywheel to just pull the bike up. Staying on the throttl…

Got a bike (rev3), and a Van but am brand new to this. From 6 years of green laning and some enduro practice, I know one important thing: Really good instruction and tips from someone who knows what they are doing, especially early on, can soon save pain and damage to your equipment... In the long run this is always worth it. Everyone is different and guidance from someone who knows what they are doing can quickly help you figure out what your natural weaknesses are*, what to practice on your own and what to bear in mind most when doing something unnatural (to me, like going slowly up slopes and over logs) This is a thinking mans sport from what i have seen, and I am a…

Hi, I recently bought a 2009 gas gas 125, one of my friends also has the same bike. After riding a trial, I had a go on his bike which had much softer suspension, and was a lot easier to hop/endo, my suspension settings have not been changed. I was just wondering how to change my settings to be softer as the gas gas manual does not explain how to do it clearly? Many thanks, nick
