I might be actually entering a trial in the near future after a long lay-off so I know I am looking at a bit of arm pump (it's inevitable). Apart from the obvious ''just ride..ride..ride..'' does anyone out there have a way/technique/ritual? of reducing the muscle-lock that we all experience from time-to-time?? Any answers greatfully received, Wayne

Bear in mind I have only been riding less than 3 months, but I'm struggling with these rocks.. I dont know If I'm attacknig it wrong, my body position is wrong or what, On the second one It was near perfect if I hit my brakes, I'm only attempting the 3 rocks and the forth up the top I've been avoiding so far until I get it right with this. I've tried and tried and cant seem to get it right, and I have a huge fear now of falling off and injuring myself doing it which makes it all the more as I have to swallow my bottle and just get on with it. I've tried to give as many techniques as I could in some of the videos, practice different things, even put a few of my falloffs s…

I've been trying to learn to front wheel hop. I can do reasonable beginner hops on my bicycle, but the moto eludes me. A timing thing and also the bigger leg movements needed I think. So I was thinking how I could help the process along. I knocked up a very rough and ready jig to hold the bike up so I could hop without continually having to stop after every attempt. It has a few problems being so rough, but it works. In just two short sessions my hops have improved more than they have in the past few weeks (still absolute garbage, the video certainly isn't a how-to!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PCeKD7R8Qs

Hello everybody, I am a beginner trials rider from Hong Kong, and I am wondering what is the proper way to perform hops on both wheels. I can do locked-steer balancing for over 5 mins easily, but I still not mastered straight-steer balancing yet. Is it mandatory to master the striaght-steer balancing before practicing the hops on both wheels? Some local rider tells me to compress the fork like how to perform the hops on front wheel with forward body movement and arms , while the legs are additionally responsible to compress the rear suspension to make both bike hopping. But some other local riders tells me to only use the legs to compress both the fork and the rear susp…

MY 2002 Sherco 290 seems to suffer from the front end pushing on/washing out in tight turns. I'm a beginner at trials and thought at first it is my technique, but a friend of mine rode the bike at the weekend and said he had the same problem. I'm 6'2" so I have the bars fairly far forward to make it comfier. Could this be making it worse? Any thoughts?

I'm 6'4 and riding a 2002 280 pro. Lately I've been playing more with bar position and was wondering if anyone uses risers and if so, how much rise? The bars are the stockers and I've got my dirtbike bars up an 1" or so and like the effect. Obviously trials bikes aren't dirt bikes and in reviewing some of the SSDE pics I didn't see anyone using a riser. Do they have an adverse effect on position/turning? Any feedback is welcome.

I'm pretty much still a wobbler, but learning fast(ish) but I'm struggling with cambers followed by an uphill turn. A riding friend says lean the bike away from the slope and bend your knee and elbow into the slope, thereby making the tyre flat to the surface.... Schreibers excellent book suggests leaning the bike into the slope..... What's the correct technique for the camber and what am I doing wrong when it comes to turning to go up? Each time my front just pushes or slips down and across the slope as I'm turning.

I m novice to the sport with only 10hrs or so on my New Gas gas contact 250. Could anyone tell me the difference between the double blip and Zap. I have watched several videos of both and seems the exact same technique. what's the difference?? which one clears higher obstacles? Also, as a beginner, I m struggling with the right finger on the front Brake. should I cover it at all times? even during wheelies? I cover the clutch at all times but left hand does not require wrist motion... any tips on that?? Thanks a lot everyone

I've been riding on and off road for years and always used the clutch as an "off" switch when the bike started to "buck" due to low rpm. I'd slip the clutch or down shift to get around it. However, I've been reading on the forum that I should be able to do full lock turns without touching the clutch at all as the bike will not stall due to all of the flywheel weight. My 2015 Sherco 300 starts to "buck" when I go very slow and I always jump to the conclusion that I need to pull the clutch in and slip it to keep turning. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure if it is from trials but my mid back muscles tend to be tight and sore. It is the area of arching when standing on the bike. These are the muscles just below the shoulder blades. Are there any exercises or stretches that can loosen up this area? The yoga "plow" helps some but not much seems to reach this area.

Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue. I think a sprain a few weeks back (landed heavily on the bars) may have caused a twinge in my wrist. I have no pain while riding, I generally feel the pain more when I'm off the bike and I flex my wrist but the pain is isolated only to the area marked in red. If I flex my wrist into extension (like in the second picture) I get this fizzel/twinge in that spot or when I'm opening a door. Is this tendinitis? My Doctor instantly without even looking at my hand said Carpal Tunnel I've had the pain for about 5 weeks now. I've made some adjustments to the bike to hopefully improvement the ergonomics to …

Hi all, I know alot of these types of problems have been discussed but not seen any about this particular issue. Been riding for a few years and just getting back into it after a bit of a break. As long as i can remember i have always struggled with pain/cramps in my clutch hand after a couple of laps of sections. Hand obviously just gets tired and then becomes really weak usually meaning i struggle to pull the clutch in! Gets sore around my wrist and just feels like theres no strength in the hand at all. Any ideas what the problem is ? Or a solution? Other than manning up... Cheers

Hi all, This will probably sound like a silly question , but im fairly new to moto trials , so here goes........................ I live in a fairly congested (neighbors) residential area and to start the bike up after work to practice is proving not a real good idea ( probably fairly so) so my question is is it a good idea to practice balancing the bike without it going as ive heard balance is better achieved with the use of clutch /throttle coordination ?? or should i wait until i can get the bike out and actually start it to practice , and by the way its great to find a forum where i can ask silly questions re trials riding , Thanks

Well as I work on things I try to get a good nose wheelie. If I am comming off a foot or two drop onto flat ground when the front tire hits I can stand her right up no problem (of course weight is forward and the rear wheel doesn't have much on it anyway). If I am riding on flat ground with a little speed I can stand it right up no problem (speed + front brake = endo). But for the life of me I can't force it up with little forward motion. For instance like Ryan Young does on his video. Now I realize I won't be able to do it like him but I should be able to get something. Here are my mental notes. * Jumping on the rear suspension to fully depress it is not necesary.…

Hello, I was recently cruising thru the training forum and I notice there is no advice for training with the engine switched off. When I first purchased my new montesa it was the first of February and I was weather locked in the garage with single digit temps and two feet of snow in the yard. So I first focused on static balancing in a stationary position finding the correct vector for the front wheel so I could learn how to balance the motorcycle with my feet on the pegs not going anywhere. At first it was very difficult and I was only able to get 10 to 15 seconds on the pegs before putting my foot down, as the weeks went by with continued practice in the garage my…

Hi. I bought my first 4 stroke about 3 weeks ago; it is a clean 2006/07 Repsol 4RT. I am in my early 50's and have been competing for about 3 years on the easy and 50:50 routes. My previous bike until 3 weeks ago was a 290 Evo 2 stroke, all of my previous bikes have been 2 strokes and I had progressed to riding reasonably competitively in my ability and age classes. I REALLY enjoy riding the 4RT for all the usual reasons but accept that the transition to 4 stroke from 2 stroke is a learning curve as the engine characteristics are so different. The first thing I noticed riding the 4rt is the engine braking which I think I like. The second thing I noticed is that the eng…

hey folks, Im not sure if anyone is gunna be able to explain in text but... Im trying to master turning in tight space by lifting up the rear wheel and turning the back of the bike left or right, There was a guy up killkenny where i practice who did show me but i still cant do it, He says about compressing the rear shock using clutch front brake etc, then lifting bike moving hips etc etc, but i can only swing it about 10 inch and i always loose balance and dab my foot down! If you can explain how you do it then it would be a great help!
