Hi all, I have just bought a Rev 3 to do some trials on, but my trials skills are woefull. I think maybe a few hours of training in the basic techniques will go a long way....anyone know of anything in the Norfolk/Suffolk area, if not, I can travel so any recommendations? I did a trials event 3/4 years ago on my Montesa 315R down in Sidcup before I moved to Norfolk....I think i came 3rd from last....I'm guessing the other 2 guys DNF'd But even that trials taster brought my enduro skills to new heights, bare in mind I have low standards that I fail to live up to! I rode enduro's/hnh's for a few years on a sportsman scale, but I want to get into trials in bigger way now …

No this is not a topic about your favourite vid you picked up in Amsterdam all those years ago. Basically I want to tune up my technique a little bit. Actually a lot! I have been trying to find Ryan Youngs DVD but there seems to be no stock in the UK or on ebay. Anyone have an idea where I can get one from?? I have come across Dan Thorpe Basic Trial Techniques DVD but is it any good? Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks

So has anyone watched this? If so does it actually have some useful techniques in it or is it just a load of clips of Bou? The trailer has a lot of clips that are already on YouTube so not sure how useful it will be. I did have the Ryon Young DVD which was quite handy but lost it a few years ago. Failing that what about this: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=111554949542 Or this http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=111569479933 .

I was coached to keep the feet straight ahead on the pegs. Having the heels in and brushing up against the swingarm was discouraged. The paint on the swingarm being rubbed off was especially bad! Anybody have any ideas on this. This was at TTC.

Okay, so because of my location it means i have to travel around 1 hour 30 mins to get to the closest training grounds which on an evening is to far so i was wondering is there anything i could do in my backyard to allow me to train on evenings as well as the weekends. Bare in mind my garden isn't too big so i couldn't setup a section or anything like that but some little things to try would be great!

I was working on this yesterday, but when doing a back to back comparison of covered vs ball of foot on the peg I looped it again (when not covered). I was riding a hill with rocks on it at Warden Law, they're spaced awkwardly so you have to keep the front up. I can't get past half way with the brake covered but I've twice made it to the top without covering. I've also previously bust my ribs on it. The problems when covering the brake seem to be absorbing the rear wheel impact and also keeping in a straight line. The problem when not covering the brake is easier to understand, when I get it wrong on the throttle I can't save it and it tends to hurt. Downhill rear bra…

Hi all, I'm new to trial bikes and would appreciate a bit of education about slow wheelie. After several weeks of practices, I start to be able to reach the balancing point but have problems with the rear brake pedal. Many instruction say "cover the rear brake" and I have no problem with my dirt bikes doing so. However, my trial bike has the rear brake pedal much higher than my dirt bikes; I can only bring it down to slightly above the level to the foot step. Then, I often inadvertently drag the rear brake as the front wheel gets higher. There are several scenarios I can think of; 1) This is because my body position is wrong during wheel…

Recently as my riding has progressed I have started learning front wheel hops and static balance, but no matter how hard I try I just cant get the rear wheel off the ground, or even lift it trying to do an endo with alot of front brake, the front brakes powerful and im throwing my weight forward, but can only get maybe a couple centimeters off the ground. Any help would be much appreciated.

There are a lot of good riders out there but it's difficult to learn from them, I think this guy is one of life's great communicators, I have one of his DVDs and I've continually promised myself a second. It's been 25 years since I've been to college yet I recall this motto, from a lecturer, every time I'm trying to learn something new: 'Over-exaggerate a technique/ formula/law to it's maximum or minimum to best understand it'.

My first post after lurking for a while....Hello! I used to ride trials as a lad (a few decades ago when twin shocks were still cutting edge!) and really fancy having another go. My 'skills' will be pretty rusty but I've been racing MX til a few years ago so am not totally lost off road......however, I'll be pretty rubbish!! I'm looking for a Trials school that provides teaching + bikes for a day's try-out. I live in SE London so anywhere nearish to there would be perfect. All the ones I've found are right oop north and just too far to travel within a day In another life, distance wouldn't have been a problem, but now I've got a young family so am very 'time-poor'. …

Hi I have got to a point where all the obstacles where I ride are either very easy for me or to big but I also have very limited choice apart from a big mound of dirt and a few rocks I have been trying to learn double blip I can get a small amount of rear wheel lift but it just goes straight up and down no forward movement so I either get over small rocks or clatter inti them with bash plate if bigger I have watched many videos and still can't master the techniques any help and advice would be great

Hi, As suggested on this forum, I started my trials journey by learning full lock turns and figure 8's. I think I know what I'm supposed to do but I can't use my rear brake during these full lock turns because my foot is all over the place from bending my leg and ankle (O-leg). For instance in a left turn, your right foot is supposed to be on the very right end of the peg, so I can't reach my brake. Is this normal and are you supposed to just use front brake during these sharp turns then? Or do I exaggerate too much with the foot and ankle bending?

Ok we all should recognise that we need to be wearing a helmet to protect your melon when you come off. But I wonder how many people wear knee protectors or back protectors whilst riding. As trails is generally a low speed sport do we really need this type of protection. I have seen a few people wearing such protection and I was wondering if A, it is really required and B, where are they getting it from........MX stuff I wonder? I would imagine it restricts movement?

Hi, I've somehow manged to get tendonitis in my left wrist from using the clutch on my trials bike and I'm getting desperate for ideas on how to cure it. I think it started about 2 months ago from a mild sprain and now , about half way in at a trial I suddenly can't pull the clutch in anymore without sever pain in my wrist. I've tried resting it for over 2 weeks and it didn't seem to help. I also had quite an amusing time at the doctors trying to explain that it only hurts when I use my index finger and why I couldn't use my other fingers to help pull the clutch in. I'm pretty sure it's the tendon running from my index finger thats inflammed from overuse, so a form of re…

Hi guys I can make it over a single free standing drum but im not sure if the technique is right. Im trying the double blip thing, first one puts front tire on drum, second one I throw weight forward to pull back onto drum. I do try to bounce the rear wheel up just befor the second blip to help. Have I got the basics right? I am riding the bash plate over the drum and it doesnt feel graceful, more like just powering the bike over. Keep in mind im brand new to trials and have only been riding for about a month (2weeks of that has been waiting for torn ligaments in the ankle to heel).

Hi there Looking for some training as I'm new to this trials game. Can anyone recomend a trials training company or school. I live in Fife, near Edinburgh but would be willing to travel. Also can anyone recomend a practice area in Fife, Kinross or Lothians? Hoping to do my first trial soon, but really need some practice and training.

I might regret asking this but..... I was watching a you tube vid the other day of some guys green laning and they were really struggling with a long hill climb, ground was dry but steep and heavily rutted, tree roots etc and while they were struggling it looked like something I would climb up on the trials bike easily (and I'm crap as!!) This led me to wondering why its so hard on a trail bike/enduro, the tyres are as good if not better (wet grass, mud use etc) so is it the additional weight, the gearing not being as low as on a trials bike or is it the frame geometry and physical size that prevents you trickling up finding the grip? I've done a little bit of greenlan…

Just got back on my bike yesterday after a long lay off (which did help my knees)and sure enough my knees are stiffening up 24 hours later. It feels like my knee-caps are too tight( no float ),pushing into my knee joints. I think this means I have an imbalance in my leg muscles (front-back-inside -outside?). I'm quite active for 40 and nothing else I do gives me 'jip' like riding a trials bike??? Anyhow..does anyone know of a few exercises or any training I could add to my current work out? Cheers, Wayne
