Montesa

  1. Started by marlintec,

Montesa-Honda halt production of 4RT and command dealers to stop selling units. Dealers in Spain received on thursday the order to stop selling 4RT. The communication relates also that the production of units has been halted. It does not explain the reason but insist to remember to all clients on the obligated starting with throttle completly closed and waiting two minutes at idle before going. In few days they will communicate the countermeasures. As a 4RT owner I feel quite worry about this. I know that the delay of october was due to a change in the kickstarter (it touched on chassis and was re-molded), but this new seems to be more important. I do not imagine w…

Hi, just been buying a new montesa 4rt and I'm going to change the oils and oil filter, can anyone recommend the best oil to use and how often the filter should be changed, how much oil goes back in and can you use the same oil for the gearbox and engine, also I've heard the oil filter is a pain in the a*** to change so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi, I'm looking at getting back into trials an have seen a 1999 Montesa Cota 315R for sale, which looks mint and apparently has had a lot of overhaul work. Would anyone recommend a Montesa for a beginner (or someone who hasn't trialled in a few years) or is it better to stick to 2 stroke? Do the 1999 models have any particular problems that I need to be aware of? What sort of price should you expect to pay for a good example? Thanks in advance to anyone! Andy

I'm back after a long hiatus just couldn't keep away from the throttle, my last bike was a 2002 Sherco 2.9 I had an opportunity to purchase a Montesa Cota 247 COMPLETELY rebuilt New everything. New main bearings, rebored, new piston, new rings, chains, It has only been run for about 30 minutes after the rebuild. The owner is unsure of the year at this point it has been sitting a good number of years, my main question is about the break in period I have no idea on this bike Also any help of mixing ratio's , Crankcase oil, or other valuable information would be greatly appreciated I should have it in a couple weeks and I'll look for numbers on the frame…

Got the tank off my Montesa while I have it flattened, so I was wondering about linking out the bank sensor. I found a post saying that it's easy to do, but can't find the related post where it's actually described how to do it. How do you link out the bank sensor? Are there any consequences? Like you can't lay the bike almost flat on the ground because I've taken off the stand (it never floods)?

  6. Hello All Just managed to get my hands on a very early Cota. (frame and engine number under 1200!) I'm thrilled to have a 'bike resto in the shed for the first time in about 15 years (last was an old Norton) I'll be honest with a Cota this early, I think that it should be accurately restored rather than put together as a competitive machine. This means alloy guards etc. thanks Jerry

Hi. I've been offered a 315R D.R Replica, in reasonable condition for £1500. As my knowledge of "modern" trials bikes extends no further than my air cooled RTL four stroke, I would appreciate some info, data on the strengths, weaknesses of this model? Reading previous threads it seems that the 315R is still a popular choice, with reasonable potential & good build quality. Are spares still available? What's different from the base model compared with the D.R. replica? 314R/315R comparison? Cheers chaps. Mike.

  8. I would like to replace my footpegs and peg brackets as my stock pegs feel a bit narrow and are worn such that they droop a bit (I think this is, in part, due to the brackets). I saw the Raptor Ti brackets and they look very nice, but I am not sure I want to part with $200 for them. OEM brackets are $82 (for both), but seem less than beautifully crafted. Any options that are better than oem but less costly than the raptors? For pegs, does anyone make a rockered peg like the White Brothers and Sunline Arch MX pegs (center spikes are raised higher than the front/rear which, I find, makes moving fore-aft on the bike easier, particularly when operating the rear brake) for …

Purchased a 79 Cota 359 as a Xmas present to myself ,missed out on a TL200 recently and stole the Monty off a guy that said it didn't run and parts were a mare....really. Had it running the same afternoon and found parts weren't an issue, motor has great compression and strong spark and runs well after not running for 15yrs . Following questions from a newbie ,please be patient with me lol ; bike won't start on decompressor ,is it set up wrong ?,think its opening too much? Without starts easily but hard on my old foot, plastic parts can they be sanded back to a better look, Will have other silly questions later but have a history with Spanish …

Hi, I'm restoring an old 247 and I need to find a manual or specifications etc. The bike I assume is 70's but need to know how I establish the exact year of build? It has Montesa handlebars on it that are a bit weird as it has two throttles which I cant see why. Can anyone help with dating the bike? Explanation regarding handlebars? Workshop manual in English? Thanks

Hi All, I replaced all the linkage bearings in my 4RT when I first purchased it used ... since then have dismantled and regreased every six months. All well for almost 4 years but noticed play recently. Found 1 set of bearings good, one OK and the third rusty and seized. Rather than replace more bearings, I thought I would try some bushes a local (relatively) trials riding engineer makes up. The plastic bushes are made of a self lubricating hard plastic (used for bearings in industry) and the collar that slides inside the bush is stainless steel. I put it all together with lots off grease and the large o-rings look like they will seal it all quite well. The whole setup …

I have been over to the intros to say "hello" and now hoping to pick up some much needed advice as I start out on getting my "new" 247 up and running again. The frame number is 21M 12511 which I understand makes it late 1973 or early 1974 There are a few "issues" including non-original bits such as the engine, plus some bodging in the past. For example, the rear mudguard is too high and has caused the damage to the seat, plus the front wheel appears to be the wrong way round. There is also a fair amount of mechanical work needed as every wear and tear item looks to be thoroughly worn out. I can't wait to get started!

Im thinking of getting myself a old twin shock trials bike for bit of a rebuild project. There seems to be more montesa,s about than most other makes and the prices are reasonable to. So the questions? What should i look out for and what are the best models?

Hello everyone, I picked up my 'new' Cota 348 yesterday, I don't know what year it is, and I don't know how original it is, maybe it's a bit of a mongrel? The matching chassis and engine number is: 51M13030 I'm also slightly puzzled with the gearbox, just by pushing it round (with the plugs out), the order is N 1 2 3 N (I think) so, I'm guessing 4th has gone? The forks were seized when I got it, since then I've managed to free them, but I'm unsure if there are parts missing, are the top of the forks supposed to be open? There was a little bit of water in mine. Finally, the coil has melted because it doesn't fit on the bracket (it fouls exhaust) so someone has put o…
