On the costs I can t agree dabster, there was a photo at the start of the year showing Raga and Dabill with the Gas Gas personnel which of course I cant find. Now if that number of people are even just attending the european rounds let alone Japan thats an awful lot of money. People dont work for nothing. When Tarres came to Bill Wilks practising in 89 he had a small truck by todays standards and his "Team" at that point was his brother and another guy who did the cooking washing etc. Most of the top blokes until recently had more people than that minding never mind working on the bikes, preparing food etc . If bikes are not selling then the factories cannot continue to employ a lot of people to support two or three riders. The WTC is surviving on the money the privateers in the 125 and junior classes chuck at it, thats where the entries are coming from. I do agree with you that we have to get riders of the calibre of Bruand, Morris etc back riding but that can only happen if a they can afford it b they enjoy it and want to ride. at the momnet either point a, point b or more likely both are not present. Back to changing the rules, this is all the FIM can do, the rest is down to the organisers to make the sections accessible to more riders

I know a guy from my part of the world who cleaned witches on a bulto with only one footrest having lost a footrest earlier in the day. he's ridden the same section a few times since on various air cooled and water cooled mono bikes but never manged to clean it again. I dont think the arguements really matter so much in terms of machinery its more about the sections being appropriate, the observers applying the rules and the riders accepting the outcome. we can argue all day but the FIM are seeking to change the rules as the present system, in their view, has led to championships with less than ten competitors, costs which are too high for the factories and less participation in Europe at club level. why not try it and then complain afterwards if it doesnt work ?

There has been some concern expressed at the potential risk of injury from attempting to ride over a log or step without stopping before hand. One of the benefits of no stop for me is that you dont need the obstacles to be as big to take marks off riders as they have to ride without pausing to compose themselves or line themselves up. A stop permitted section can work like this The section involves a tight turn followed by a five foot step , lots of people pull up, balance, check the catcher is in the right place, rev the bike, wave a leg, rev the bike again, receive some advice (bend your legs ?) and then fail. While this is all happening the the queue grows ever longer, the observer nods off and its still raining. 3 of the local good riders have quick look at the step and clean it no problem. A No Stop section could work like this The section involves a tight turn followed by a two foot step , lots of people ride around the turn and take a dab or two to on top of the smaller step. There is a shorter queue, the observer doesnt nod off, nobody needs a catcher and the majority get through the section. This is why I like no stop trials. Despite the rain the 3 good riders still clean it as the good riders often dont lose marks on steps but people insist on putting them in which demoralizes everybody else . As somebody referred to earlier even at BTC level a trial can be lost on a straighforward section rather than a step. Steps rarely take marks off the top riders in local trials. If people are going to pack trials in because they cant have the rules they like can I suggest we chip in and buy them a dummy to replace the one they have spat out ? This could be their parting gift from the sport. Instead of spitting your dummy out try it first, the people who like no stop have been riding stop permitted for 25 years without spitting their dummys out.

The stop argument I think is based around riders who wish to emulate raga bou and company and their style of riding. Ive travelled to Italy, Spain, Belgium and Andorra in recent years to watch world rounds and its fantastic to watch. But I have to admit that I cant see the sport being sustainable at BTC or WTC with 10 riders on the top class route. WTC is onlu sustanable because of the 125s, BTC is sustainable because of the expert class. If the rules have to be changed to make the sport viable at world and british championship level then club and centre trials will follow. The alternative is that we just forget the champioships until they collapse and then decide ourselves what we chose to ride

I think we should stay in the west end car park and are perhaps looking at this form the wrong perspective so heres an idea. restrict access to the traders and factory trucks but use an out of town parking facility and run a shuttle to get people (spectators) in during weigh in day. The main problem I see is that spectators cant get parked on the Sunday, the bikes and factory trucks fit in the car park no problem. I like the idea of moving the scrutineering so its more visable but people could then make adjustments between scrutineering and the parc ferme ? for me the town and trial would lose out if we moved out of the west end car park

Just watched the DVD I think its good as is, the rider names and sections are on screen so not having commentary isnt really a problem, music was superb and a track listing would be good. as an added bonus every body gets to see Big John in action as well at the presentation, credit where its due thats a difficult role but Big John did it very well well done fellas !

you need to study the dvd cope in preparation for your attempt next year.......

you might find its the seal between the actual tyre and the rim thats leaking especialy on an older tyre. CLean the rim properly when you change a tyre, i find this helps

So how about this for a spanner in the works Sherco start out with a bike very similar to a Gas Gas back in 2000, no real outcry from folks and from there they have developed a distinctive product. Now they need to move on, guess what, they are going to copy the new Gas Gas frame can somebody explain to me why nobody is kicking up a fuss about this yet when Xispa copy a Sherco there is an outcry ???? Me no understand !!

the 98 Black techno had Dougs name on the frame I think so you might get somthing older than your expecting !

I ve been running 6 in the front and 4 in the back for a good 20 years now whatever the terrain. it used to be less but then I discovered beer, curry and pies I'm 12 1/2 stone heavier riders may use more in the rear but I wouldnt go past 5 unless your 15 stone plus

clearly you need some sherco time maybe you need somthing to aim for ? I was thinking you havent rode the SSDT before so I should put an entry in for you, Ishy can brief you on bike hire and the weather will be better next year ! see yo in May cope
