Hello. This is MY FIRST topic on this Forum! Ive already read a whack of them, so far your site is pretty great! So, this is my first trials bike. Im not sure WHAT it is. So far, from what ive read, its a 1976 Yamaha TY 175C. Can anyone confirm that? The # at the front is 525-150***. Im planning on restoring it to NEW condition! Ive owned a few dirt bikes, but ive so much fun with trials in the past that I figured I should hurry up and get one. Also, can anyone tell me where I might find a Manual download for it? I really want to do the repairs on my own so a manual would help.

Hi there, I've recently taken on a new ty 175 project, she needs it all. The ty 80 I did for my boy last year was just as bad and turned out nice. I've started stripping the frame to get it shot blasted but when I went to remove the swingarm I got the standard seized bolt. Doing searches basically states the only way forward at this point is cut the bolt free and replace the bushes, bearings etc. I would be doing this anyway but I'm wondering where can you buy a replacement bolt? Or is it simply a case of measurement and order a bolt from anywhere that will sell a m12 bolt in the right length or is there somewhere you can buy direct. I did see a website selling a kit for …

So, my maiden weekend voyage on a new-to-me 47 year old TY250, I managed to find the weak link in the aftermarket shift pedal... What I'm trying to find is anyone and everyone out there with background on replacing one on their TY, and which one they went with... Also my first bike in general and I'm kicking myself for taking so long. Short of ordering random ones off the internet and trying them the next time I get a day off... Which doesn't sound like something I want to gamble on... Because I'd rather ride. ๐

After spending a bloody whole week getting the gears nicely synchronised with no more phantom neutrals I was so looking forward to taking my bike for it's maiden run up the woods. Fired it up ok but it will only run with choke in and when the choke is off it soon dies. I spoke to the nice chap at TY trials and he said it sounds like the crank seals have gone. I just can't understand how they have gone so quickly as I had taken it for a quick rip up the street and it was running nicely but perhaps it was a bit hot. There doesnt seem to be any oil in the flywheel. Could it be anything else ? It feels like a air leak. Does anybody put any additional gasket sealant betw…

Hi, I am a newbie member but I have purchased a Yamaha TY 175 1980 to do some twinshock trials for fun. I have stripped the bike down for a light restoration, but on removing the flywheel cover spotted some black silicone to the front and slightly above the front sprocket and behind the clutch adjustment screw/bolt. Removing the silicone revealed what looks like Quick Steel type repair putty had been used. The bike had not been leaking from this location, and the area of damage looks quite small. My concern is that in this location there appears to be a small steel cap pressed in to the aluminium casting, what is this for? Am I OK to ignore it as the sproket seems to rota…

TY250 Pinky Can anyone shed any light on how to get the front wheel off without resorting to a lot of swearing and large hammers!? I have one of the forks off which is the side which doesn't have the disc brake, this slid off easily after undoing the clamp.Ddoes the spindle on the disc brake side unscrew with the large star bolt or is removed another way?, If it unscrews using the large star bolt then I will get one to fit but wanted to make sure I wasn't barking up the wrong tree before I did. This is the last part of the bike to come apart before the rebuild can commence!! Thanks

Hello, I'm riding an '85 TY 250, and it seems to suffer from pinging quite a lot, as well as pre-ignition. The current spark plug is an NGK B8ES, and I'm unsure whether a colder or hotter plug will remedy this, or if there's more involved. Is this fault common to this particular model? The bike is in good condition, originally being registered on the road, with 600 km. on the odometer. Thanks, Jason.

My old cables are a bit ratty, some kinks and cracks etc. When I squeeze the brake and clutch levers, although they do activate after a fashion; the clutch does the clutch thing and the front brake mildly suggests that it would like the front wheel to slow down some if it's not too much trouble. New brake shoes are on order, however: What I notice is, there seems to be a lot of flex and squirm on the cables as they are applied. It would seem to me that I might be loosing some application force and smoothness with all this movement being used up to pretension my ratty old cables. While I expect just about any new cable will be an improvement, is any one aware of a sup…

Hi, All! Working on making my recently purchased 1974 TY250 rideable. I'm doing repairs from probably decades of neglect, abuse, and a bit of "Hillbilly Engineering" from the previous owner(s). At the same time, I'm making a few minor "upgrades"; like the Sammy Miller wide footpegs that lower and move the pegs slightly rearwards. This requires removal of the swingarm bolt. While that bolt is out, I thought I'd look into replacing the grease nipple and the pivot bushings. I got the swingarm bolt out after somewhat of an epic battle. Now I'd like to get the long inner bushing out; the one sorta shaped like a long dog bone that goes completely through the swing a…

Anybody know why I keep blowing plugs on my nephews ty80? I bought it a month ago, been out 3 times and had to change the plug 3 times. Is there anything that might be causing the plugs to fail? It seems to run all day perfect yet next day don't seem to get a spark, fit a new plug and away she goes again. Any advise would be most appreciated

I ordered one of these along with and SM front pipe for my TY175 and they arrived yesterday. The holes don't line up quite correctly with the studs out of the head on the front pipe and will require a bit of modification which is annoying but as the bike is 25 years old to be expected. What I was surprised about is that the WES silencer/mid box does not have a hole in the main mounting bracket. Has anyone else fitted one of these? Are you meant to drill it yourself or have I been sent a duff one? Cheers Dave

Hi All I've just got round to fitting the Trail & Trials UK gear change mod for the TY175 after having it sitting around for 6 months. I took all the old bits out, put the new bits in and followed the instructions. The gear lever no longer slops around like it used to. BUT - now I am having trouble selecting a gear. The leaver goes down to a stop or up to a stop but doesn't take bike out of neutral. Before I go back and start all over again does anyone have any tips/advice/etc? Thanks in advance.

Hi all, does anyone know of any sensible mods to liven up a standard TY175? I'd like to make it respond a little more like modern bikes. Maybe take some meat off the face of the flywheel (how much?) and I know the porting can be altered but don't know the specifics... and I'd hate to end up with a useless barrell! Thanks in anticipation Mark, Perth Australia
