Twinshock

A t/s rookie question, I keep seeing this reference to the 'more modern riding position'....is it simply lower footrests or are riders looking for more than that? ...for instance what is the more 'modern handlebar positioning'....where does the 'body' sit 'in' the bike etc. ...is it all just an aid to go from new to old t/s's or is the 'modern position' a better set-up period? I've owned 4 trials bikes, 1980 Sherpa 250, 2003 Monty 315R, 2002 Beta REV and now my 1980 SWM if that helps someone to explain things..but never owned more than one at a time! thanks for your patience guys

thinking of fitting disc front brake to a twinshock to be rode in club twinshock events and blue bar richmond ,is this allowed or is it not complying to rules also whats the rules on an early mono converted to twinshock

Never owned anything that's needed things like cases and forks etc polishing. What's the form on getting a good finish, send them off to a pro, buy an Ebay polishing kit for my bench grinder or hours spent with Solvol Autosol? .....or easy clean ali' coloured powder coating...my local powder coaters do a very good fake ali finish.

The Amal on my 1972 Cota 247 is just about worn out and I am thinking of changing it for a Mikuni. Has anyone done this mod and can give a walk through of what is required, jet sizes etc etc? Thanks!

Hi there eveyone, I'm new to this forum (I've browsed it before), I have just bought a fantic 200, (just to muck about on, no comps) it's a runner but with problems.......can't get it to tickover properly, and it has a starting problem........sometimes 1st kick and away she goes........sometimes it just will not start.....!!! Tried allsort but I now think I might need to replace the carb. I might go for one of these OKO ones..??? Also, the bike will not start with the clutch pulled in, has to be in neutral, clutch out, to start. Duh!! Don't get it?? I have just bought a Montesa Cota 330. I believe it is a 1985 model but that's just a guess at the moment. The bike is a non runner at the moment but almost complete. The previous owner said it ran but not too well, they thought it was carb so fiddled with it and now can't start it at all!! The first thing I noticed was the air box is missing and someone has fitted a aftermarket foam filter. Does anyone know of an airbox for sale? The second thing I noticed was the whole fork and wheel assy. has been fitted backwards!! Handling would be interesting and the brake next to useless as it's relying on the trailing edge. Should Twin Shock events have sections in a traditional style or should we join the hip-hop crowd?

Another question to those who have ridden both.Were the SWM bikes of 1981-82 better than the last Sherpa T? Maybe just a matter of opinion,but if they were was it by a big margin? Did they handle better or have a better power delivery? I have only ever ridden one around the yard of a friends for about 5 minutes so I couldn,t really tell if it was loads better then my Sherpa T.

I was wondering what the rules are for twin shock? can i run disc brakes? I have a little 125 scorpa that i really love and dont really want to get rid of can i make up a rear subframe and bang two shocks on or is this not playing the game? I have seen a lot of big money bikes that seem to be accepted

I'm just back from a great weekend at the Nostalgia. There was a converted mono ty Yam riding in the twinshock class.This is the first one I have seen. Are they common down south? I'm not one for total originality etc but surely this is a step too far?

Thought I'd post this here rather than Monty section as most t/s's run drums. Bloody odd this. Front brake creaks when applied when stationary and the lever feels spongy. The drum lining isn't split which was my first thought. Stripped the brake down and still does it...bit of a strange one? When moving the brake works ok but is still spongy. Any ideas welcome no matter how bizzare

Hi PASTED IN FROM CLASSIC SECTION Well I have got the new Mikuni VM26 set up with a 150 main and 30 pilot. Starts pretty good, and runs cleanly but it is now missing when it gets hot. I am running it on 33-1 and with the air screw by 1.5 turns out. Rubber inlet hose in good condition with no leaks. Looking at the plug I have noted that the NGK BP-7ES look pretty hot (ie no hint of soot, and a copper hue). Could this be the problem. Any thoughts of the next step to get the bike running cleanly. Is it worth changing the plug (to what type?), revert back to 25-1, or backing out the airscrew. Or all of the above! Thanks in advance Chris Posted 13 September 2011 - …

Hi, i`ve come across a real gem of a montesa 247, its been sat in a garage since 82 and is totally original although a little rusty in places and the seat has dried and split. Unfortunately the rear guard snapped at some point but I do have the part to piece it. Its road reg and still has the rob edwards stickers on the tank. Trouble is I cant get the thing to start. I`ve done everything I already know it will need. I emptied the tank and filled with fresh premix fuel. Ive checked the points and timing (.40mm gap and opening at 2.5mm btdc). the spark is blue and strong. I`ve completely stripped and cleaned the carb, the choke jet was blocked solid, the main wasnt much b…

Just assembling the crankcases on a '74 247 Cota and before I fit the clutch just want to make sure I haven't missed something. Do the crankcase bolts have O rings underneath the washers to stop air / oil escaping past the bolts? I can't recall seeing any when I took it apart although there were traces of silicon under the washers maybe, but I can't really remember, besides, there are usually traces of silicon sealer everywhere on old engines so doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'd never have thought myself but someone has mentioned there should perhaps be O rings fitted. Or is it just bolts, nuts and washers? I have a parts book but it only gives part numbers and n…

Hi All I have a really random and very subjective question for you all. As the title says, what is the easiest twin shock to ride? The reason I ask this odd question is I have a medical condition that causes me to get excessively fatigued from even light physical activity. However I refuse to give up riding just yet and before I do I'd like to ride a twin shock. I do like the look of the TY175's and the Fantic 200, would these be physically tiring bikes to ride? Hi all, I just wondered if any one knows how to work out the length of spokes needed for a wheel rebuild? I am trying to rebuild a wheel that had a 17`` rim on it. I am now going to try and put an 18`` rim on instead. As the hunt for 17`` trials tyres was proving to be impossible... Many thanks in advance.... Pete.

I'm riding 1970 Montesa Cota 247. I'm beginner and stating to compete in vintage trails events, meaning riding in woods. My bike has 10/48 sprockets set. The Cota manual indicate that the factory bike has 11/46 set. The difference is about 12%. But what does it mean? My main goal is to ride as slowly as I can in 1st gear and maintain smooth acceleration when needed. Does the 11/46 ratio is slower then 10/48? Should I changed back to the factory setting?

Which Carb and what size is worth to try for Montesa Cota 348 - instead of Amal?
