Looking through the entry list for the SSDT the breakdown of bikes entered is as follows:- Beta 83; Gas Gas 52; Montesa 41; Sherco 31; Vertigo 27; TRS 22; Scorpa 21; Honda 3 and TBA 1. I don't know how this compares with previous years, but a healthy range of manufacturers represented. Isn't it funny the things you do when 'on hold' to British Gas?;

Having had his entry into the Ballot for the 2014 SSDT confirmed - Gary "Bingo" Bingley is to make a welcome return to the sport with his main aim being winning th ssdt 2014 over 50 award (as he's 50 in February). This will all be for charity -and he is starting his new fitness regime this weekend with some altitude training in the alps. Please give him all the encouragement we can and watch out for more details - He'll hopefully be back on a bike at the Cumberland Clubs New Years Day Trial. Thanks for now. It has been an 'easy' winter this year, wet and miserable rather than freezing hard - so the midges are out and about already this year. There are dozens of very expensive anti-midge sprays, etc... but they don't always meet their advertised claims. However, if you are prepared - there is another way to ward the little buggers off. Boots the chemist sell cheap bottles of their own 'Eau de Colgne' - not the fancy 4711-type stuff, just the big old cheap bottle of their own concoction - but splash a little in the palm of your hand and just rub it in any exposed bits of skin and most people will be midge-free all day - and there is a Boots in Fort William! Hello, I was wondering if anybody had any information of my dad from when he rode in the SSDT, I think he rode in the 1970s. One bike he rode was a works yamaha Ty 175, for Mick Andrews. Would love some pictures or results or stories. Many thanks Dan Oakley

As the mother of all trials is fast approaching I am thinking about the last few bits and bobs, which of the above is best? The rucksack I can see being a bit of a faf having to put it on and take it off, but all your kit will be in one place and you will be able to carry more (gloves waterproofs etc) the bum bag may not be as big and energy draining but limited on space, nothing at all!!!! dont think I want to take that risk. whats the opinions of the TC population???

I apologise if this is a repeat, buttt.... what are the chances of a twinshock Scottish in the future? I appreciate that the relevant committees are worked to death and all that but I reckon it would be a winner. Same sort of format as the pre-65, 2 days. Bit of a knock-around for the twinshock lads and lasses.

Excuse my ignorance but...I am very new to the sport (weeks) but have been aware of the SSDT's for a long time and since being on here I have read numerous times about how concerned they are about losing sections etc, and rightly so, and hense why they make such a drive to stop spectators riding off road them self, however, I can't stop thinking it's all being used by the authorities to brake your back with! By this I mean, the possible threat of losing things, surely it was be an enormous own goal for the local area, local authority, local land owners etc etc to make any attempt to stop things. The world attention the area gets, the influx of visitors, the money the loc…

I hope to observe for a few days this year, has anyone done it it before? What can I expect and how do the observers get out to the far away sections? Do they ride the whole way, follow the road or take a van and park up close by?

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a decent pair of gloves I.e warm for the long streaches of Cross country in the scottish.

I have come up to spectate later in the week this year than usual (arrived today) and not only have they run out of kid’s T-shirts and hoodies I can’t track down any stickers. Seem to have all gone. My lad will be gutted if I can’t find one. Does anyone have a spare one I could have for a donation to a charity of their choice or a drink at the bar or something? Cheers Dave

I was hoping a few of you SSDT vets, could point me in the right direction as far as getting my bike through scrutineering. What does my bike need to have to pass? As it stands, I don't have light's, speedo or side stand. I am aware that I need a side stand and speedo, however, can I get away with a cheap speedo from halfords? Also do I need a horn? Basically I'm not wanting to spend too much money, and from the price list for the speedo, wiring loom, horn and lights, it starts to get a wee bit pricey. cheers.

Good friend and local club rider Duncan Mitchell has put his TYZ up for sale. Now riding a Scorpa, Duncan has decided not to enter the old TYZ in the SSDT again. This in may ways is a sad loss as he has ridden 10 or 11 SSDTs on this bike with little other than routine maintance being required. It wasn't a SSDT special either. He rode Scottish national and all the club rounds on the bike too. Is this some sort of record or has someone done more on one bike? Where's Big John when you need him.

I was wondering whether someone with some serious SSDT knowledge should write a Wiki for the SSDT. It would be great reading I am sure. Also, I have been going on about the SSDT at work to customers/suppliers I have been seeing this week and none of them knew what it was I also think its an ideal event for the BBC to cover and televise and as they are struggling for sports media they can afford, the SSDT would be relatively cheap ...... as long as the contract doesn't include paying HL's bar bill for the week

going up to the ssdt to spectate for the first time. was wondering if the list of routes and directions how to get to them will be listed on this site beforehand. if not where is best place to find them

Planning my first visit up the SSDT this year. Will be taking my 5yr lad - so, looking for advice on spectating areas that we can get to - without too much of a hike away from where I can park a car? Any recommendations? Thanks!

Monday Dougie's bike could of been fixed in less than thirty seconds had the coil bean changed. Positive lots people report changed coil and it has fixed the problumes they had. Roberto
