Classic Trials

I am gathering together the parts to build a Bantam trials to ride the BMCA trials,I have frame/engine and hubs, does anyone here have any pointers on what can be done with the frame, head angles or raising the engine etc. Not sure what forks to go for, I won't be winning any medals out there but I want a rideable bike. Up to now I know the gearbox mod to do, going for the 185 conversion from Rex Caunt, pvl or electrex cdi , 12 tooth g/box, f spkt and 60 r wheel. Anything else worth considering, all info much appreciated.

Well I’ve just read about Gustav Franke and his impressive efforts riding a Zundapp Trials bike. I knew that they entered Enduros but had not considered Trials, even though most of the events were in my youth when I was totally Trials and Scrambling mad. All things considered this may have been a subject that’s already been covered on this website so directions please. Hi All, I'm looking for some information on what is believed to be a Cheetah Trials bike fitted with with a Greeves headed, Villiers Engine. We recently acquired it from a man looking to sell off his late fathers collection. Me and my father are normally Bantam tinkerers by default but couldn't pass up on the opportunity to purchase what we originally believed to be a Greeves Anglian or something similar.I was wondering if anyone has ever owned one, ridden one, seen one in action or just knows a bit more about the brand than me. Hi, when the Honda Cub was launched in 1958, apparently sometime after Honda entered a team in the Ssdt. I am talking about the C50/70/90 range of Cubs(autos) not the road bikes with manual clutch as was seen at the pre 65 this year. The Honda Cub was probably the most important motorcycle ever launched, look at the production figures. If it is true about the trials debut I as a Cub fan have not seen anything about it. P.S I have seen the U.S variations with knobbly tyres etc and high level exhaust systems. Thanks.

Dear All, I have an original pre-65 AJS 16C and it seems that there is no classic class it can enter on equal terms from any club that I can find. It seems that the bike would need to be heavily modified to be on equal terms or alternatively just ridden for fun with little chance of being competitive. Whilst I always enjoy riding, it would be much better if there was a class specifically for original pre-65 bikes. That is not to say that the currently modified bikes would be excluded. Simply that the huge gulf between a modern pre-65 bike and an original one would best be acknowledged and catered for. The reason for posting this here, as a near novice in such things, is…

I didn't ride the last two SM rounds last weekend (due to work commitments), but i here on the (non TC) grapevine about possible changes to machine eligibility for next year ? Just wondering if this is fact or fiction, or if there are any other changes planned ?

Great Britain has always been a nation of inventive engineers, Richard Trevithick, I.K. Brunel, the Stephensons, R.J. Mitchell the list goes on and on, give them a need or a challenge along with adequate funding and engineering will find a way. This is exactly what is happening in P65/British bike trials at the present time, alter the regulations and they will continue to come up with a new answer to a new challenge. So can anything be done to stop the continuing and rapid change of a sport and hobby many of us enjoy into the two wheeled equivalant of F1. Thanks for all the help with the kickstart trouble i had. The bike is a converted bsa bantam d7 I now have a new problem that has just started this week. After changing the piston rings i have been riding the bike quite a bit and loving it but... the bike now will run/tick over fine and all seems to be good for the first approx half hour of riding then all of a sudden the bike will just die, almost like it has run out of petrol, except that it hasn't. this started a few days ago. normally with the bike warm it will kickstart no problem however once the bike has died like i mentioned above it wont kickstart for a few hours until it has cooled down again. I'm still restoring my late model Dalesman trials (circa. 1973 - the one with the Sachs engine). Does anyone have photos showing the original design of both the chainguard & the chain tensioner ...... or even better, have spare ones for sale? Also trying to find front & rear black 'VF' mudguards. Have attached the only good photo I've found of this model of trials bike but any others would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Secretary, Anne Gordon has had 7 withdrawals to date so, to the delight of the first 7 lucky reserve riders, they have secured a place in the trial. All arrangements for the event are progressing well and hopefully the sunshine we have booked will be able to make an appearance! Does anyone know what's happening to the Pre 65 scene in Scotland.I know of 2 riders who ride Pre 65 bikes at all the trials I rode this year(I was riding a Scorpa). There seems to be plenty of twin shocks but the lack of Pre 65's is noticeable,is it because the trials are being laid out for modern bikes and are to difficult.I've heard that some events that are supposed to be for Pre 65 are just too difficult.Hopefully things will get better and Pre 65 will pick up.Away up the shed to get on with the C15(at least that'll be another Pre 65 on the entry ). cheers the noo Brian
