I had 3 bikes stolen February 13 and after almost 2 years have managed to recover 1 out of the 3. I won't go into to much detail, but I saw the bike advertised on scumtree, viewed the bike as soon as possible to confirm and then headed to the local nick to report it. The local plod was very disinterested, but I have to credit my local police who have been great, and got the bike back. The chap who had the bike is not believed to be responsible for the theft, but instead had paid hard earned cash to the scumbags which took it. I regularly check auction and sale sites and have key words saved to narrow the results, I identified the bike on the advert from some small feature…

Hi eveyone, I am new to the world of Trials.... & a late starter too ~ Just wanted to inform the Bike World of an unhappy story. On the 18th of November I collected a '94 Gas Gas 250 from Cheshire that I had bought from an online site. The bike looked great & was just what I was looking for. I stayed at a friends house overnight in Nuneaton on my return journey. The horror when I saw the empty trailer in the morning. I had reversed the trailer & the car along side the house so that the trailer could not be taken. I had not given any thought to the fact that the bike could be lifed off the trailer & over the car......... Take notice all other new boys…

  4. My mates had their bikes stolen last night. 2011 gas gas 300 racing and a repost montesa. The montesa is quite distinctive, it's a 2008 fitted with a Mitanni front pipe and silencer, anodised gold sump guard, swing arm cups, fork yokes and wheel rims with the back one being machined out works style. It isn't the standard montesa gold, it is the lighter TRW gold colour. Keep your eyes out and let's keep these type of people away from our sport!

Last week some toerag pinched my Armstrong CMT310 from my house in Derby. I've been totally underwhelmed by the response from the police (Nil). Still, I suppose it's my fault for owning a trials bike in the first place. It was road registered, but had no lights, though I guess the number plate will be long gone. I know it's not the greatest trials bike ever built, but I liked it and I'm mighty ticked off. There are numerous identifying features, so if anyone is offered one, perhaps you'd be so kind as to give me a call before parting with your hard earned. My number is 07989 592796. Thanks, Mike.

http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Hand+Tools/d10/Punches/sd3302/Letter+Number+Punch+Set+36+Piece/p19757 See above link, can get them at plenty of other places also. Another option is a vibro engraver at about £40. To make the bike less attractive to thieves and more likely to be recovered get it registered, it costs nothing. Then stamp or engrave the reg number on lots of parts, some visible and some hidden. I can't remember the exact figure but doing the above reduces theft by something like 70%

Dear fellow motorcycle trials enthusiasts, I would like to take this opertunity to bring you up to speed with recent events regarding my friend Jon Sands, (big boy) and his stolen Beta evo 250 2010. The bike was spotted for sale on eBay and once the confirmation was made, the police insisted on handling the situation. Unfortunately the seller sold the bike early on eBay for cash before a trap was placed. Jon was told that the police would visit the ebayer and interviews him about the sale, please now take a breath and read the following. 1) The seller told the police he bought the bike from an auto jumble at Kempton Park for cash. 2) No receipt no names etc. 3) The …

My mate had his garage broken into on Weds night, one of four in his street to be turned over. Thieves took a TTR 125 and a 2006 SY 250 Scorpa, they ditched the TTR up the road, probably as they couldnt get it to start without a key but the Scorpa is gone. This guy has only just come back into trials and helped us mark out last weekends event, the bike is not insured. Please contact me if your offered a 2006 model Scorpa this bike has an in line stat between the cylinder head and radiator which is unusual on a scorpa and the sump guard has been drilled by the water pump and clutch cover, it also has a birkett modified water pump and the rear mudguard is cracked.

With the issues of bike theft and trying to prevent it, what are your views and recommendations, when selling a bike. I did think about not allowing buyers to come to my house, rather meet them somewhere like outside the local Police station, but won't this raise there own suspicions? Anyway what do people recommend, how have you gone about previous bike sales?

I have just had my 2010 Beta Evo 250 4T (4 stroke engine) stolen from the front of my house in Banchory, Scotland. Nothing unusual about it, apart from a 10mm hole drilled in the rear mud guard which I used to attach the reg plate. Frame number is ZD3T6020090400110 Any info greatly appreciated!
