Bultaco

  1. Started by sunny,

Thanks for all of the suggestions, help and personal messages offering assistance. I have got the cases back together. I heated the right side in the kitchen oven when the wife was out and it slipped right on without even using a rubber hammer. I have now started to assemble the ignition/flywheel, the gearshift etc.... I just need to get a few new things a seal, a lock nut for the kickstart spring holding nut ( is that avaliable?), the four long studs to hold the cylinder and head, a new set of rings (which i have to figure out what size they are), a holding washer for the sprocket, so really not all that bad considering it came to me as a basket of parts that changed …

I plan on upgrading the stock 28 mm Bing T84 (the slide is badly worn and I'm told virtually impossible to replace) to a Mikuni 28 mm TM flat slide, VM 28, or VM 26 round slide. Does anyone have experience with any of these carbs on a 199A? Will the 26 mm work well or is it too small? I've been told that the smaller bore might boost low rpm performance. What jetting/needle combination works at 1500 - 2500 feet? Thanks! tightwoods

  5. Desperate to get the Sherpa finished in time for the Bultaco Club UK do at the end of July. I still need an inlet manifold ( never had one as bike came in bits ) part Number 158.10-029 and the original swingarm isn't straight so i could do with that as well ( not 100% sure but think it's 159.03-002 ) if you know of anyone who has spares lying about please ask around. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm interested in using friction material plates but NOT the more expensive Barnett ones for bultaco. read on here about using certain Japanese bike plates and it looks like the kit that is sold by Bultaco UK(?) uses that type plate evidenced by much bigger inside dia. Anyway, all these plates are listed as 110 O.D. but I'm measuring the Bultaco hub I.D. right at 110. are the plates slightly under or do they have to be filed down to fit? I know the tabs are wider but I'm talking about the diameter of the plate fitting the dia of the hub. unfortunately I just buttoned up the clutch side on my son's 87 Honda cr80 after inspecting the clutch. at the time I wasn't …

I have a 175 Bultaco Sherpa with a very poorly engine that apprears to have eaten its 'self in pieces. If I can find the parts I would like to rebuild the original engine at some point but does anyone have a 250 or 325 engine for sale that would fit straight in to get me riding again? Any help would be much appreciated!

I noticed that the Yrjo Vesterinen 340 'works' Bultaco, as advertised on eBay recently, sold for a whopping 8750 squidlettes (at least I think that's what it went for - I was too shocked to really concentrate on the bidding). Is it just me or does anyone else think this was a tad over the top? Maybe I'm just getting old (er, what's with the 'maybe'?).

I was wondering has anyone used viton oil seals in a engine rebuild ? I use them every day in pumps and mixers in chemical works and they work well and out last the bearings. But the only downside is they groove stainless shafts more than nitrile ones do. Just a question to see if anyone has had a go before I do.

  20. Started by Lee Stephens,

Hi everyone I've just joined up. I've just bought a bultaco lobito 175???? Early seventies but the engine numbers start with m-8 and the frame numbers start b-8. The bike was imported from the states not by me on other sites are saying it's a model 80? Which makes it a 1971 sherpa? Is this correct i will post some pics tomorrow it certainly looks like a mk5 lobito but the matching numbers have certainly thrown a spanner in the works. Any information much appreciated regards Lee Stephens
