Regrettably I sold a 2005 4rt last year to go back to 2t, now I miss it like mad.. What I would like to know is what are the advantages of going for a later bike other than the obvious - less wear and tear. Later bikes are more expensive but what were the gains, better forks, more power, stronger brakes?? Were there any years that had issues? Regards Nick.

Hi guys, Just brought a 248. Having trouble adjusting the clutch cable, any chance someone has a pic of where all the cables route as got a feeling it's routed wrong and taped to the frame. Also carb settings? It's a amal carb, L2627 410 if that means anything? Is it even the correct carb? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated Thanks Mat

Ask Andy if he has any photos of the Deigo Bossis / Mitani Team 4RT's, which were pimped in anodised yellow. The new Repsol 4RT's have now got gold rims, the factory bikes are 4 kg lighter and can be re-mapped by blue tooth.

Hi all,i have an 06 4rt that has been fouling plugs,i always let it warm up till fan kicks in,yesterday i changed the plug to the cr5eh9 thinking the hotter plug would burn the soot of better but after 2 hours came back took plug out and it was much the same,i was wondering if the jitsie air filters were better to allow more air through and if you do without the fire cage.hopefully someone has had this problem and can advise, cheers stuart.

Hi All Thought I'd split this thread off from my thread in general as Ive now bought the bike and have it at home I've spent some time searching on here and found answers to most of my questions but I still have a few. Im totally new to trials, and obviously new to the bike as well, so I have some dumb/basic questions (sorry!), I'll be getting a towbar and rack soon hopefully so I can take the bike out to a few of the trials around the east anglia area. 1) How much fuel will I need to take to a trial, ie can I get away with a plastic 5 litre can of premix or shall I buy a metal 10 litre jerry can? was also wondering if the fuel would keep better in metal anyway? Also…

A brief history for your diagnostic pleasure: - Its a 4 month old 2017 4RT, been ridden plenty, but like new - no knocks or damage - running the right transmission oil - The clutch has always felt odd to me - really on and off - but I put it down to new bike, newby on trials - Recently it became wildly erratic - super jumpy, sometime won't engage, then its back - The engagement point seems to move around then suddenly it won't engage at all - Thinking it must be an air problem I've bled the system three times, the last bottoms up, not a bubble - Stock MC looks fine, no leaks, don't see any cable leaks TTF is going on! Does this sound like a symptom y…

Rode the Jack Wood a few weeks ago and about half way round the bike started to cough and not rev out, thought it might be water in one of the electrical terminal blocks? Rode again today after taking removing all electrical terminals, drying etc. prior to this same symptons, 2 laps the bike started to cough and not rev out? Not the plug as I tried several with the same symptons, if I let the bike cool down and started again, could do a couple of sections and same thing? Now someone told me with those symptons that it could be the ignition coil giveing an intermiitant spark? Could this be it or has anyone else come across this same problem? If so whats the cure? Good…

Hi, after some advice please, had my 4rt out the last weekend and it wouldn't start, went to take the plug out and the ht lead came straight out of the cap, I managed to bear some of the rubber back and ram it in the cap then sellotape, yes sellotape, it in...I managed three hours solid riding without it missing a beat, now can I just get a new cap or do I need to get one with a ht lead connected to it since bearing the wires back slightly?

Plan on posting a photo to show what's going on when I have one, but for now wanted to get this post up. Have a 2017 300RR and when I purchased the throttle cable sheath was broken near the top where it meets the housing on the bars, and the angle of it was sharp as though it was bent. I replaced it, but now 1.5 years later this one is doing the same. I have looked at pictures of routing the cables and I'm not entirely sure mine is correct, but I have seen more than one routing where one goes behind the bars and beside the tank, and another picture of the routing in front of the bars. I just want to stop this happening again, so if anybody has heard of this issue or has a…

First of all, there is absolutely nothing fun about gearing... With that said, I got my new (to me) '15 260 standard model a week ago. Great bike! Standard 41/10 is too fast for me. I'm 180, ride slab and sand and try to go up big rocks here in California. So then I put a 41/9 on. Too slow. 1st too slow, second to tall. Read the forums, lots of different opinions. So I tried to do some math, which no doubt someone will correct me on, but here goes. 41/10 = 4.1 reduction 41/9 = 4.56 reduction The difference between the two is 11.2%. So the massive difference you can feel between a 9t and a 10t sprocket is just 11.2% in speed. Let's say you wan…

I already adjust idle speed to around 1850rpm, also i check throttle cable freeplay, then i reset ecu many times but nothing help:( Would someone help what I need to do next?

I have the standard 4RT Cota and the short exhaust guard. Burning through a lot of riding pants as the section close to the kick starter is not covered by the guard. Is the RR300, Repsol or carbon fiber replacement versions any longer near the kick starter? Thanks Tom

I own a 4rt which I bought brand new in Febuary, I seem to have nearly reach the end of adjustment on the snail cam adjusters which keep the chain tension correct, not sure why this is as there is still a fair amount of slot left behind the rear spindle for further adjustment but the snail cams will only take another couple of clicks before they are at full adjustment, the bike is completely standard with standard spockets and came with the snail cams adjusted more than half way when new, do montesa fit over long chains (Regina chains) do I need to get some larger snail cams so as to be able to move the rear wheel further back in the spindle slot as it does still have aro…

Montesa 4RT Best bike you have ever owned? I think people give the 4rt a bit of a hard time but i have had my 4RT since new (2005) and has not missed a beat! Build quality is un-beatable and in my opinion the best bike for grip around! Excellent suspension, ride, and looks! I think they deserve a bit more credit for a 6 year old design!

Hello, Has any one fitted a lightweight capacitor and / or a carbon rectifier base. Is the new smaller capacitor just zip tied on? Is it good practice to heat shrink or rubber mount the capacitor in some way or will it survive as is - current size is 22 mm x 31 mm ? Not convinced with the carbon bracket and am thinking of modding the existing metal bracket to suit so the fan regulator mount and rear brake reservoir remain and smaller capacitor fits in a similar way on the mock up ??. Any help or pics to show what others have done please ?

hi I have been going to a lot of trials lately and i have been noticing there isn't really any grade A or B riders riding a 4rt. I was talking to one grade A rider who was selling his 2015 repsol and he said coming from a 290 GAS GAS with the vertex top end to a 260 there is less power. He also said he was having to rev it like crazy to get it to go up anything steep. Do you's think a montesa 4rt 260 would be plenty of power for a grade B or grade A rider. When I rode the 2015 repsol there was an extreme amount of torque of it which i thought would have gave grade A and B riders an advantage. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.
