Name the riders?

After a bit of time out, Im just getting back into trials. Im considering a new bike, but hesitate cos they aint got bleedin seats and only have tiddly tanks FFS! How on earth do you guys do road trials now?? How the ferk do they compete in something like the scottish???? Unless you convince me otherwise, might have to just settle for the twinshock...

Hi, I posted on here a while when I started my search for a trials bike. Wanted four stroke and something I could also ride on the road occasionally and have a go at some basic novice trials. I have now found a 1966 triumph tiger cub, it got 21" front wheel, ally tank, Sammy miller sprockets, footrests and exhaust. Had new big end, barrel and head I believe. Also road registered. Are they any good and could I use it at a local club on a novice route . Thanks Fatty

I have that feeling (but no real evidence) that Ossa and Sherco are going to go head to head later this year. In the Green corner we have the new challenger... with a super lightweight, radical design and Fuel injection but maybe they've had a couple finishing issues in 2011 ... not surprising in their first year. Everyone seems to agree that the best bike for a novice is a Beta 200. Unfortunately they seem to be about as rare as the faeces of a child's equestrian toy. So the alternative may have to be a 250. Which is the most docile 250?

The rear tire on one og my bikes is leaking out all og the air within a few hours. The tire size is 4.00 R18 so what do you think of putting a inner tube in the tire? I read that tube size 110/90-18, 110 /100-18 and 120/100-18 will fit the 4.00- R18 rear tire. Any knows if this is correct? Right, The thing is my 02 gasser 125 pro, keeps dying out on me, has no bottom end power. Im selling my bike due to this, and planning on getting a 250. Surely this will have the bottom end power i need. For example, a section: Steep short drop down into river, turn at bottom of drop, over a few rocks, turn and up and out. I did it all fine upuntil the up and out part, after going slow on low revs over the rocks when i clipped the throttle bakc it just died out on me. Is it more cubic capacity that i need, or a mod on my 125??? Any help greatly appreciated Rich

Good Evening folks, I’m looking to get into trials as mentioned in other posts and am currently bike shopping. Initially I was looking for a twin shock as it reminded me of my youth and an old TY I once had. But, to be honest, the prices are a bit off putting and I have a budget to stick to so had decided to find the best Beta 200 or 250 I can for what I want to spend. But I keep finding myself attracted to the air cooled monos, cheaper than twinshocks generally, a bit more up to date I guess but with a bit more ‘soul appeal’ than some of the modern iron. I’m a sucker for a classic bike and don’t mind a bit of tinkering. Would there be any disadvantages to …

I've seen more and more trials bikes out on TRF rides ..... It's a lot more fun on a trials bike but you must be fully road legal and join join your local TRF (cheap). Get out with the enduro boys on the green lanes and you'll find lots of nice 'sections' on the way. It's not ideal on the flat, you'll have to get her in top and give her some yahooo to keep up with the pack .............. but when you come to a (simple) climb you will see your enduro clad freinds looking for 'ways to go around' .... not to mention woods, streams and rocks Just do it while you can cos yet again your government does not want this body to continue ... , you'll have a good day out and probal…

My last two trials have ended quickly due to my tyre popping off the rim The first time I just thought it was bad luck, but after only four sections it came off again. I've had the bike since Feb and that's never happened before, and it just so happens I fitted a new rear tyre....two trials ago. So, any guesses on what could be the problem ? I'm starting to think it could be a faulty tyre, but what's the likelihood of that or is there any other explanation ????

Getting back into it after a few decades. I know there's lots of chat about which way to go, twin shock or modern, and I'm having the same dilemma but for different reasons other than the bikes themselves. I'd prefer twin shock just for the nostalgia, but here's the thing, are there any tough twin shock trials? A decent twin shock can be more expensive than a decent modern, but what's the point if there's not much to go at once bought? Maybe I've seen the wrong pictures/videos perhaps? A lot on YouTube made me look twice to see if they were actually sections, rather than the kind of terrain you mess about on when warming the bike up. When I think back to how trials us…

I couldn’t find a thread for LDTs. Just looking for some very basic advice as I am going to do a couple next year (incl. Lands End). I don’t have a bike for this yet but I am thinking of either a DT175, XL125 or XT250. Anyone done the Lands End? Any views on bike choice (late seventies/early eighties Japanese is the brief)? Nb. I have looked at Yamaha Serows, Beta Alps etc but like the idea of an older bike. And any other tips etc more than welcomed!

Her indoors has got it into her pretty head that she fancies emmigrating to New Zealand. My only concern, is there much trials action out there for a useless novice and t/s rider like myself? Has anyone got any info so I can either talk her into or out of the idea? Nick

I’ll keep this short and sweet. I ride a Beta Evo 200 (2020), have been riding trials around a year and am getting on pretty well I think, at least it’s all coming together and I’m falling off less than I was! Riding Sportsman routes with scores usually around the 20-40 points mark, sometimes better, sometimes worse depending on the venue. At my regular Thursday morning practice I had a go on a new Gas Gas 250 and immediately obstacles/logs on flat and slopes were crossed more smoothly/less jerkily and, weirdly, a tight camber turn on a slope I’ve been struggling with was easier, did it second go!
