Last year I tried the VHST 26mm for my 250 -04 and found it to be a real improvement over the stock Mikuni. I started this year with a new 270 -06 and have covered about 2 mounths of riding with the stock Mikuni and found that the new bike was difficult to handle. Riding with slipping clutch in 2nd gear was difficult and the general feeling of the bike was that it felt nervous. Now, I have replaced the Mikuni with the VHST and covered about 10 hours of riding....and what a difference. 2nd gear riding with slipping clutch isn

Having ironed out all the other problems on my new-to-me 2014 Evo 250, my one remaining issue is clutch drag. I dropped the oil level to the bottom of the window and did the “Beta clutch fix”. No change. On closer inspection of the master cyl and lever, I realised that the clutch frees off if pulled in hard against the grip, but under normal riding my middle finger is trapped under the ball-end and stops the lever travelling that far. The lever is adjusted to have less than 1mm free play at the pushrod. However the rod inside the master cylinder moves about 3mm before the load becomes significant, presumably because it has to move that far before it starts pushing ag…

I just bought my first two stroke in a million years, and I'm not quite sure what ratio to mix my fuel. The bike is a '13 Evo 300 2T, and the manual recommends 1.5% if running synthetic premix, 4% if running mineral. I'm using a semi-synth because I have it around (it's motorex), so I'm not sure how to mix... maybe split the difference?

OK so I'm sitting here thinking I'd like to set up a way to monitor rotational speed of the crankshaft. An optical sensor being the easiest method to implement and a resolver being the hardiest. Knowing that the crankshaft speeds up and slows down as it goes through the two stroke cycle it occurs to me that this would be a very sophisticated way to monitor engine fuel and ignition requirements. From instantaneous crank acceleration one can deduce engine load from the ratio of how much the crank slows between power strokes and how much it speeds up during the power stroke. One could also sense pre-ignition and detonation as short-violent deceleration just prior to the pow…

Hi i curently ride a 2003 Gas Gas TXT 250 Edition and am considering upgrading to either a Pro or a Beta, i used to have a Techno 250 but had a lot of problems with the electrics and had to purchase a new ignition unit. could you please tell me if the problem has been resolved on the current Beta's

I came across this short video clip on YouTube of the new 4T the quality of the video is poor, and the duration is short, but from what I can tell Beta did an excellent job of keeping the noise down. It sounds like it revs quickly, a lot like the sherco 3.2 or scorpa sy250f... I'm very curious if the rev-4t will be as competitive at the highest levels as the rev-3 270...

My 09 290 EVO uses the BR7ES plug. Maybe four months ago i changed the plug for the first time since new due to a rough runing low rpm range. After inspection of the plug i noticed that it was begining to foul due to oil contamination. The engine ran like new with the new plug. It is begining to run rough again at low rpm. I used to run the standard plug gap which i think is .024-.026? Im not sure at the moment unless i go look at the owners manual. A freind recomended that i set the plug gap to .020 for better bottom torque. Im thinking that this smaller gap setting is causing the plug to foul. It's the only thing that i have changed in the combustion process. What do y…

Hi, I have just started having problems with my bike, it is an 03 rev3 200cc. the bike used to go fine, but I went out on it this morning and every time I got above about 1/4 of a turn on the throttle it started spluttering and pinking and all sorts. The bike runs fine otherwise below this speed with plenty of power. The spark plug has a white residue on the area where the spark jumps across. I have tried a number of spark plugs but not a new one. I have also tried resetting the float level slightly higher incase it was fuel starvation, but I have not started messing about with mixtures or ignition timing yet. I suspect it may be that ignition module problem which …

I am having some problems with the carb on my Beta rev 3 250cc 2005 trials bike. I have had the bike a few months and have just been using the bike in fields, going up hills as I am new to trials. The bike starts well normally first or second kick. Recently I noticed that the carb was leaking, I think it has always done this but I had not noticed before. The carb has got the atmospheric tubes looped of the top of the carb and cut at an angle in the end.Petrol drips out from the over flow in the float bowl. This does not happen when the bike ticks over but when you rev the bike half to 3/4 throttle.I am not a mechanic and have little experience with carbs and have been tr…

Never been this stumped before and out of ideas now! Hoping someone's come across this and can help. Problem started about three months ago. Bike died while out practicing. walked a section, came back and it wouldn't start. Suspected the stator so fired it off to Steve Hardaker of Motoplat UK for a test and/or rewind. Got it back rewound but still no spark. Removed kill switch, checked HT coil ground, and wiring. all seemed fine so assumed the CDI was my problem and bought a new one. still nothing. bought new coil, plug cap and plugs. No difference. Started doubting the stator fix so contacted Steve again. he kindly said he would test the whole system on his test rig if I…

I dont compete - I use my trials bike to putt-putt along west coast rooty, rocky single track. I used to ride a GG 2000 txt 280 and it worked really well for this type of riding. With the trials bike I can "style" the trail, whereas with enduro or MX I just end up "brute force" bashing things. I like going slow and styling the trails. Anyways the old 2000 GasGas still works, but is really worn out. So I thought I would get a later model bike. So I went searching for a newer trials bike I can use for my single track technical riding. I wanted something known to be mellow. I read a ton of topics about my type of riding and the 2005 Montesssa 4RT and 2008 Beta Rev …

Hi all, I'm a lucky guy that will throw a leg over a new Beta Evo 250 4T in few days. I came across this information about carb settings I understand that homologation requirements are on the lean side and the bike should run with the competition settings. I have a pair of questions: - What means 'spacer'? In what part of the carb is located? - Are you, beta 4T users, in agreement with the recommended settings? - Are the needed jets supplied in the crate? Well, three of them. Sorry... I hope to share with you my new Beta-times. Cheers, JM

Hello all, I'm looking for some general engine setup advise on my newly acquired 2000 Rev 3 270. It runs well enough most of the time but does have a few issues: 1) Pinking - It's only minor but consistent when you get off the throttle the low to mid RPM range...especially if you've been running under load at higher RPMs like up hills between sections. - It might be the *****, low octane petrol we have here in the States. I'm using the highest octane stuff I can get at the pump but I refuse to pay triple for race octane stuff. - Thought also it might be running lean so I've lifted the needle in the Carb one groove down on the circlip which has improved it slightly. …

I need to remove the flywheel as there is a problem with the stator or woodruff key( bike wont rev) Having bought the puller tool it won't come off. Do the 2 philips headed screws need to come out first before the flywheel will come off? I have tried to remove these with no success (impact driver etc) If they need to be removed before the flywheel will come off then I will probably need to drill then out !! Any help most appriciated.

Guys in the club who ride Evos say there are two types of Evo riders. Riders who have broken their rear fenders and riders who will. Although the plastic is pretty stout, it's not as "rubbery" as the rear fender on my Scorpa or Montesa, both which would be broken if it weren't for the mounting screws I replaced with ZIp ties. Isn't so easy to mount the fender with Zip ties on the Beta. Just curious, how many of you have broken your rear fender?

New adjustment of the fork. The optimization of the oil flow makes the fork more sensitive to the absorption of the shocks, it is thus more reactive with the bounce to facilitate the lifting operations or the simple movements of the nose gear wheel. New adjustment of the shock absorber. More stable services in time associated with a better stability. New carburettor Keihin PWK

I was thinking of buying a Beta Rev 3 but have been really put off by the stories of electrical and stator problems, I am disapointed that Beta can manurfacture such a seemingly shoddy prioduct cos i really like the look of the bike, can anyone shed some light on this please, Thanks.
