Bultaco

  1. Started by bultacosteve,

This is my first post on this forum but I have been viewing the topics on the board for about a year. I own several Bultaco's and I am very knowledgeable about the brand and many of the models they produced. I have been riding an M159 Sherpa for the past 5 years in vintage events. This past year I have been using it in the vintage class but we ride junior type sections. Myself and the other vintage riders find the junior sections more than manageable on the older bikes. Last year I got an M199B sherpa t and I am just now finishing off the restoration. I use that term rather loosely as all I have done is blast and paint the frame, new tires, new cables, brakes, and a…

Can anyone help with a source for 199b Tank Decals? I'm looking for vinyl rather than water slide transfers - I've tried the water slide transfers and I can't get them to stick to a poly tank. Thanks in advance Paul M

Hi Bultaco Sherpa T M49 - Does anyone know if there is meant to be anything special about the teeth on the engine sprocket, or are all mine just worn? The teeth appear to be the normal involute form (as in any chainwheel) but with the outside diameter then reduced. Has the proximity of the chain tensioner anything to do with this? It may well be that mine are worn and I shall have to look at replacements. Thanks Sparks2

I'm determined to actually get this 325 model92 going again, I've had it for 11 years and not a lot has got done to it. I'm in need of a fair few parts for it, I half wonder whether to abandon it and get a complete one. In reality it shoudlve been scrapped years ago! Its good points are the motor is excellent, its road reg, and tax exempt! I need: Exhaust Front wheel Swingarm spindle Seat for slimline tank brake pedal gear lever Chain guard chain tensioner Any pointers on breakers? I dont have time to trawl ebay. Or does anyone here have any of the above surplus? I'll post some photos of it tommorrow. Thanks

Can some of the experts give an opinion on the difference in power delivery of the 199A (325) and 199B (340) sherpas?. I've been told that the 325 is a bit sharper but surely a couple of cc,s doesn't make all that much difference?.

I visited a bike boneyard to look at two M49s and luckily they were examples of a series 2 and a series 3 bike. This posting has the photos of the series 2 M49 serial number M4902195 and the next posting shows the other bike. What got me motivated to go looking was a post by Woody: "The serial numbers are from Bultaco's own figures so they should be right. However, they only list the model 49 as having one frame change during its production run but there were two. Series 1 with single tube under engine, upright shocks. Series 2, single frame tube under engine, angled shocks with seat unit altered to accomodate relocated top shock mounts. Series 3, twin frame tubes under…

I have a 1974 Bultaco Model 125. But I see that they made three models during that year, the 92, 125 and 133. I can't see any glaring difference, does anyone know what the differences were?

Just spotted this on ebay 340 Bulto For all those observant ones amongst us, its a Mono. Now I think this one may have originated from down in the Wessex centre, as I can remember a local rider who did the conversion using a Fornales air shock from the first model JCM. The bike was tested in TMX by Martin Strang, Geoff Parken and Nibs Kellet. Unless anyone knows different Martin

Hi all, A friend of mine just offered me a Bultaco Sherpa 350T It's a 74 / 75 Model In Red and Silver. He stripped it several years ago and rebored the cylinder, painted the frame and other bits but there it has sat in boxes since. As far as I can tell the only major item missing is a seat. It's being offered at

  16. I have a 1980 Sherpa 199a which I have just partially restored. i.e. frame, brakes, rebore, new carb, repaint etc etc. (Trying to relive my youth according to the wife- rode a DOT in the 60's and a slimline Bultaco 325 in the early 70's) Up until yesterday it was running sweetly. Then a misfire developed which gradually worsened with backfiring etc. Checked spark seemed fine but changed plug...... no improvement. Bike starts no bother but misfires as soon as I ride it. Checked wiring and cleaned earth connections...... No better. Waiting for a condenser from Dave R so haven't been able to try that yet. Decided to check timing and points. Points had closed down a l…
