Bultaco

Hi all, I have an m49 that I'm starting to restore. Wanted to get your feedback. It needs all paint redone. Since all sherpa t's look similar, I was thinking of doing a flat black look. Black fiberglass, bars, rims, frame. All other metal and aluminum would be polished. My fear is that it will look like a metal mulisha reject bike and I'm not into the fmx crap. Any thoughts? Trying to be different and also not have to do three color paint job.

Hi all, A friend of mine just offered me a Bultaco Sherpa 350T It's a 74 / 75 Model In Red and Silver. He stripped it several years ago and rebored the cylinder, painted the frame and other bits but there it has sat in boxes since. As far as I can tell the only major item missing is a seat. I have recently dragged my last remaining Bultaco from the back of the shed where it has spent the last couple of years in disgrace. A few years back I decided to try sidecar trials, so got hold of a chair which was once fitted to a '74 model 125. I purchased a matching bike which was running absolutely perfectly, but had trashed lower frame rails and other frame damage so was ideal for the project. Mods duly done, the bike was reassembled, but wouldn't start. Crank seals I thought, so I whipped a new set in. Still no joy. To cut a long story short I stripped and reassembled the bike (I didn't split the cases though, or lift the barrel) till I was sick of the sight …

Hello iv'e been looking at converting my front wheel to dic brake am only thinking about it at this stage just wanted your thoughts on it. if i do it i can easy change it back to standard hear have a look at this. also i may put 199B S/Arm on the 198A frame.

Hello, I just bought my first Bultaco its a 1973 Alpina 350. I usually don't buy non running bikes, but this one was in such good shape I went for it. The PO was an older guy who was the second owner. The first owner was his long term friend. I remember seeing spark when I bought it and the compression seemed good when kicking it over. I rebuilt the carb and was hoping to hear it run, but now it doesn't spark. I attached some pictures, because I know you guys like pictures. It has a headlight, taillight, brake light, and kill switch. I don't know if they are stock or aftermarket. My first move was to clean and tighten the wires going to the wire connector block.…

Hi, finally got my dad to give me his old bultaco. I'm going to start to restore it but was trying to figure out what exact model and engine it was? The numbers in the motor are JM-18800129

I took the taco plunge last week when I found this one on local CL.. Seems to have most of the important pieces intact...the m 49 seat in photo did not come with it .will need to remove buddy seat frame and pegs. I cleaned the IRZ carb and it fired right up..top end and clutch are a little noisey.. Plan is to ride it as is this summer and do a frame up "rider resto" this winter.. Can't wait to tear into it tho..

Having trouble with my front brake I just can't get it to work, it has new shoes and a new cable. It looks like the the hub has already been sleeved. What I'm after is the diameter of the standard brake drum so I can check for wear, does anyone know it ?? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Ok guys I've taken the plunge and bought a early bultaco, as far as I know its a 71 (k reg) but it needs setting up correctly, it starts but its woolly! as in the revs are all over the place! It seems like air is entering somewhere. The inlet manifold rubber and the airfilter hose has got some splits in them? so these will need replacing for a start! An amal carb 627 type L428 is fitted and looks quite a new one! Is this the correct carb? whats the correct spark plug and ign timing? I have a 1974 Bultaco Model 125. But I see that they made three models during that year, the 92, 125 and 133. I can't see any glaring difference, does anyone know what the differences were?

Dear All, This is more of an information call than a question. I searched the archive for posts on what RAL number Bultaco Blue is prior to powder coating my frame. I couldn't find any threads with the answer. Dave Rentham described it as Ford Electric Blue but I couldn't find a RAL number for that either. So for what its worth the coater and I agreed to spray it RAL 5015 which is the nearest blue we could see to it on the day. Hope that helps someone in the future. Paul Cundy

Hi to all, I was wondering whether anyone can advise me please? I'm about to begin restoring my Bultaco M27 and didn't notice that the top clamp on the trees is wrong! I know the rarity of the 27 and the availability of parts is slim. Does anyone know whether the M10 top clamp is the same as the M27 please? If it definitely is then my percentage level of finding one may increase by a small fraction! any help will be greatly appreciated. many thanks Gary.

Hi guys When I received my Bultaco the tank was very worn, needed spraying. We sprayed it and everything was ok, until the petrol vapour literally destroyed the paint work and stripped the stickers we had on it. I understand that this is a common problem. Does anyone have any idea of a cure? Regards, Kelvin

started to put clutch back together bought new push rod mushroom push rod and new ball bearing. when I took it all apart the long push rod was ok so was the mushroom push rod but I had no ball bearing? instead I had a short piece of tapered rod about 10mm long . any ideas

Just wondering what the preferred shock length for a M199 is please? I currently have 340mm and i am looking at new Hagon shocks (1 - cost $150 cheaper than Falcons and 2 - the guy that did my suspension on my EC300 gasser says they are good value) The hagons only come in 340 or 370mm centres. Is 370mm to tall and would it make the front too quick? thanks

I have a 1980 Sherpa 199a which I have just partially restored. i.e. frame, brakes, rebore, new carb, repaint etc etc. (Trying to relive my youth according to the wife- rode a DOT in the 60's and a slimline Bultaco 325 in the early 70's) Up until yesterday it was running sweetly. Then a misfire developed which gradually worsened with backfiring etc. Checked spark seemed fine but changed plug...... no improvement. Bike starts no bother but misfires as soon as I ride it. Checked wiring and cleaned earth connections...... No better. Waiting for a condenser from Dave R so haven't been able to try that yet. Decided to check timing and points. Points had closed down a l…
