Four-Stroke

Is it just me or did I miss something birkett said in the test and I quote "..........the suspension was working well especially the rear after the 315r which never did have the best back suspension." Funny how we always get these 'birkisms' last years bike was crap/ let water in/ had wrong gearing/etc but never mentioned the suspension on the mont in the last 6 years anyway as being anything other than ok. The rear unit is adjustable aswell and as far as most fair minded people say its quite good isn't it?

  3. Noises off…… The precision click of a Parker 25 ballpoint pen. The sound of a Snap-On ratchet tightening a bolt. The rope winder on an ocean going yacht. The burble of a V8 engine. The sharp crack of a Montesa 4RT engine. The irritating high pitch whine of a lone mosquito in your hotel room in the dead of night. Emotive sounds each and every one. Think back, if you will, to bikes and cars you have owned or aspired to own. Then identify which of them you were most attached to and hold the fondest memories. Then ask yourself why. I remember vividly my first push-bike with proper tyres. Passed down from a cousin who had outgrown it and still a little too big for me …

Would any of you folks that have switched to 4 strokers since 05 consider going back 2 stroke if the price or circumstance was right? What if anything would make you change back to 2 stroke? Aaron

Just read the Steve Saunders test on the Sherco 4T in the YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE, he mentioned the old dreaded "pop and die" thing that has affected nearly every fourstroke trials bike (with a carb) that I've been on. Do you get this with the Montesa, with it being fuel injection and all??

  6. Hello, afther a 2017 Beta 250 factory 2 stroke i bought a 2017 montesa repsol 260 becouse i love the look off the bike. Yesterday first day at the montesa and i must say it was hard to ride. I will give it a while but when changing back to my beta 250 it felt super light and super responsive. Zapping over a log, turning, hopping,....have to learn all on the montsa or....stay with the beta. Greathings, Luc

Hi all, After the first year of use, I think we have more clear the arguments of the new 4S machines. I own a 4RT with just one year old and I would highlight this points: - Flawless bike. No problems at all in this first year. The bike keeps intact its performance in one year. - Great response of engine, always constant in any situation. - A little bit heavy in front, difficult turning. I got more tired with the 4RT than with a 2S. - Great suspension. - Not cheap to do maintenance: so frequent oil changes, included oil filter, made the bike significantly more expensive to maintain than a 2S. The final point: Would I buy it again? Probably not. The main rea…

I have a fabulous Cub that had a Montesa conical hub rear wheel in it which worked very well and polished up nicely almost matching the REH in the front. I have since sourced a REH rear and sold on the Montesa rear wheel. I am having a clear out in the garage and found a 66T 420 pitch Talon sprocket I had made for the Montesa rear wheel. If anyone is using a similar wheel and would like this sprocket it is free of charge as long as you collect or cover the postage. The sprocket number is TR232.

Hi, new rider looking to purchase first trials bike since 1983 and am thinking about a new beta 300 and wondering how many things I can do to soften it even more to enable me to learn without feeling the bike is dragging me along. Narrowed down to Beta 300 or Montesa 260. I will also be purchasing the additional seat so I can use it as a general trail bike. other than a slow throttle and fly wheel are there other things I can do? Initially I’d like it very dumbed down. In an ideal world I’d simply buy a beta 200 but I would like to have the option to ride trails 55 year old with zero bike riding since 2000 and very poor bikes handling skills

Hi have a JDM Honda TLR250R engine which has been fitted to a special frame. As you know this engine was a Japanese only model so information & spares can be hard to get hold off. Can anyone on the forum help in getting information about this particular engine, engine diagrams, part sheets, wiring diagrams etc?. A source of spares, address/Tel number/ email would be also be most welcome.

Yes I have ridden all so far, good and bad within the lot, but one thing is for sure, a carburator has its limitations, specially on a four stroke, it is simple physics, and has all been done before. You will not be able to ride it like a 2T, end of story! It will spit at you, and at the worst moment! 250 cc will work for the average rider, which may just be the 200cc = of the 2T which most need anyway, but Sherco and Honda both figured out early on that it would not work in WTC competition. Scorpa has already proven that it takes 150cc in a 4T to really make the bike move! Roumours have it that the Gasser 4T will have a flat head motor, not sure the displacement, I wo…

Two stroke Vs Four stroke traction theory. This is an open letter placing down my curiosity as to the realty of my thoughts of two vs four stroke traction. It is looking at the theory vs reality. Given that a two stroke crank rotates (under power) with every pulse of the spark plug means that every rotation of the crank is under power and therefore no free wheeling in affect. The pulses are somewhat smooth as there is no coasting just continuous power being sent to the back wheel as long as you have the clutch out and the gas on. A four stroke on the other hand has the crank make one revolution without a power pulse and one with. Basically the crank is coasting with…
