Hmmmm, the sound works but no pictures, what's happening?
-
Haven't really done anything to the swingarm, just polished it a few years back, and tried not to smack it against any rocks (only partially succesfull at this though)
Best thing about polishing alloy parts is you only have to do it properly once, then just leave them alone.
-
Yes, off an SWM, and they were semi-gloss black as standard.
But why keep to standard when you can improve?
-
-
Weld extensions on to your sumpguard to give better protection for the sidecases, if your oil leaks away through a cracked case it will be very expensive.
-
I'll be riding at the Lancs classic round, the Angela Redford in March.
-
Have to agree with jbswm, I love my old 280......brilliant rotax engine can be made soft or aggressive easily.
Parts no problem www.motoswm.com
Also something a bit different to the norm, (where have all these TLR's come from?)
-
Just stand on the tyre with your heels next to the bead!, simple.
-
You bought an ex-post office van!!!!!!!
They're all but written off by the time they have finished with them aren't they?
-
Ahhh yes, it's all coming back now!
They were high geared, i remember wheelying the entire length of our road pretty fast to keep in the "powerband"
There was some issue with the front brake though, i managed to snap the spindle 3 or 4 times after riding though sand, no idea how that would contribute to the breakages but my Dad kept bollocking me after having to fix it time and again. Eventually i got the message and stayed away from the sand, hence no more snapped spindles.
Yes they were bloody heavy too, about 4 times the weight of my first BMX a few years later (that was a revelation when i first got on that after wrestling with the beast!)
-
I had one too!!
Exactly as you described, got a picture of it somewhere in the attic!
-
Don't have any more tanks left Sparky! sorry.
John said yesterday about the rule not being enforced possibly, he was going to confirm on Monday.
-
You need to make sure you have the correct spring and damping rate on your falcons, there is no reason why they shouldn't be as good if not better than a pair of 20 year old showas.
-
Sounds good Sparky, bit of snow adds to the challenge! but it doesn't look like the disc brake rule will be enforced as the ACU never published it until it appeared in the handbook this week. (to be confirmed)
-
Obviously it didn't just tip over on its own!
The thing rolled over on a tight bend (90 degrees) whilst turning on to a side street, it's well documented about those jimny's and their predecessors being unstable.
-
I was at the '91 world round near Preston and there was an alpha being ridden there by thierry girard, i later bought a video of the trial which went on sale on Martins SWM stand at last weeks malvern show!
-
-
Hope the one at the end doesn't fall over, worlds most expensive domino fall
-
Careful with those jimny things, one tipped over on it's side outside my friends house the other day right in the middle of the street!
A bit unstable!!
-
Does a trials bike fit in a transit connect? (standard size)
Will it go in straight or does it have to be at an angle?
Thanks.
-
Hmmmmm.........Based on the evidence it seems that SWM riders certainly were at the forefront of trials fashion back then.
I also noticed that the aforementioned lady is feet-up on the yellow machine but strangely dabbing on the lesser Italian machine!.......discuss.
-
May see you there Martin, possibly making the journey down from up North!
Are you sure it opens at 10.00? not any earlier?
-
Thank god this (proffessonal) bike builder hasn't been anywhere near my bike!
-
Modern synthetic oil is such high quality that it can be overkill if used in a (fairly) low stressed trials engine at no more than half throttle. Simply put,the engine will never be worked hard enough to generate the heat required to burn synthetic oil properly.
Even David Knights factory (2 stroke) KTM's run on semi-synthetic oil as the mechanic reckons they never have any problems with engine wear due to oil.
-
That Beta is actually a '91 model.........anorak, i know
