Pre-65 Bikes

  1. Started by b40rt,

Chain / tyre clearance on my B40 is minimal, I dont think the rear whel can be dished enought to give adequate clearance. Has anybody put a spacer between the sprocket and hub, then made new axel spacers to effectivly move the wheel away from the chain by a corresponding amount ? There is plenty of clearance to the right of he tyre. While I'me picking your brains, I've noticed that if I leave the bike with piston at TDC that it doesn't wet sump as quickly, is this something to do with where the oil pump positon in its stroke ?Thanks in advance for any thoughs / observations. Ross

Hello everyone, right then, a pre65 James with a villiers 8e in, now I want to stay within the spirit of pre65 so, can anyone advise on the best engine eg stick with what I have or go for a 32a? Also what sort of mods can be done for better performance to either of these engines? Any advice greatly received just don't start on "the spirit" issue - each to his/her own,

Hi all you pre65 boffins, what do you think is the best 2 stroke bike on which to ride the pre65 Scottish 2 day, for a clubman rider? Please give your reasons.

Anyone got a pic of an HT ( their bike ?) with an Avery Products- Terry Weedy tank? They're quite a bit cheaper than the Holtworks ones so just wanted to get an idea. Thanks

  5. Started by bigplonker,

Retired to France a few years back. Kept my old TES Greeves in the belief that I might one day ride again. Maybe the Talmag. Maybe the Scottish Pre-65. Maybe some classic French trial. Didn't happen though. Sold the bike and reluctantly accepted that my trials-riding days were over. Since then, as one does, I've been trawling the sales ads for interesting pre-65 and twinshock bikes, just out of curiosity. Seems that there are less and less good 'uns available, so more and more must be mothballed in old blokes' (and lassies') garages. And, crikey, how the prices have steadily risen over the last decade or two! Eight grand for a Cub. Ten grand for a 350 CCM. Fifteen grand f…

Bought a T20 cub, want to optimise it, but it should still be a pre 65, not a Twin shock with old engine.... What are youre experiences with the fork, oil, springs, modified interials ? Rear shocks in which lenght ?

  7. A question to make Charlie P despair! In the lightweight class we have had the James, Triumph Cub and Bantam eras, all machines passed as being pre-65 in style and substance. What might be the next all victorious model in this class.

  10. Started by honda_trials,

Iam certain I have seen metallic silver long plastic rear mudguards with front to match somewhere out there on a bike. The Gonelli ones are just too short at 70cm and the only Stilmotor ones (100cm) Steve Goode has are grey or white. I would like a pair on my chrome-framed Cub as I can't see the alloy ones lasting long the way I ride! Can anyone suggest as supplier?

  11. Started by H123,

Hi all, so I have ended up with a C15 Road bike in my garage ready to convert into a trials bike. I realise that it will never be as good as an Otter or Drayton framed bike but it's all I've got to play with at present. So what I want to low is what hubs do I use to get laced to the 19 rear and 21 front rims, do I use the C15 hubs that I have or do I use something different? Do I use the C15 forks or enter the minefield of Fork / yoke /wheel options? Bearing in mind I would like to maybe upgrade to an Otter / Drayton frame one day. Im sure this has been asked to death so sorry for this but I need a shove in the right direction. The last bik…

Hi Guy's, This is the frame I have just finished to take our Tiger Cub engine. It is based on the design of Pat Slinn's BSA frame that he built in the competition department in 1964. Here are the pics at last, sorry for the wait. Regards Charlie.

  17. Started by alan,

in advance of Scotland i have just fitted a bicycle digital speedo, having heard that the ignition plays havoc with the wireless types, i fitted a wired one. all works well if freewheeling with a dead engine, but once the engine is running the speedo displays random numbers.. i guess the PVL coil is causing the problem... any one have a solution????

Hi All I need some help, I want to compete in pre 65 probably with a Cub or C15. Is there a set of rules as to what can and cannot be modified, for example to be eligable for the Scottish and the Talmag. I won't be getting an Otter or anything like that but I do like modding my bikes. Seeing bike's like Mick Grants of which very little seems to originate from before 1965 lets me think any thing goes, then I hear about no electronic ignition, no concentric carbs, no oil in the frame etc etc. I am confused!!!! P.S I'm not critisising bikes like Micks, I think they are wonderful and would build one tommorow if I had the ability.

i ve aquired a c10 that is running a 6v battery on total loss, it'll do a single venue trial on a charge no problem. i want to do road trials on it this year though, most of the PJ1 series , a couple of Miller rounds and a LDT so.. would i gain anything by changing to 12v and for a bit of longevity for the road trials should i if i opt for more APH and if so how much.. ?
