So here's a naive question that has been niggling away in my head for a while. Why are trials tyres the way they are? Is there a rule somewhere that bans MX or enduro tyres? Or has years of experience led to conventional trials tyres being the best for the job? I occasionally watch an X-Trial video and wonder why no-one has tried a slick tyre.

More specifically good balance. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/nov/02/can-you-stand-on-one-leg-for-10-seconds-why-balance-could-be-a-matter-of-life-and-death-and-how-to-improve-yours Shame the article did not highlight motorcycle trials as a superb way to maintain balance and something very very suitable for older people, ladies particularly.

New rider looking to get into the sport coming from MX, competent on a bike but have never ride trials. I only weigh 62kg so am wondering if I should go for a 125 or go straight for a 200/250? Looking at either gas gas or beta Thanks

Does anyone know where a Mont 315 manual can be downloaded please? Mine is a 2001, but any year will do for general guidance/torque settings etc. I have trawled through past posts (most of them long past) but none of the posted links are still active.

I have two Ossa engines, one frame that I believe to be 1972 250 MARs. There is no number on the frame, but the engines numbers are: M-345710 and M-343770. The limited information I can find anywhere show only numbers beginning with the letter B. Any information anyone has would be helpful for when trying to find parts. Thanks.

Looking for a bike for myself and a 125 starter for my son(12). Budget is about £1500 each so it looks like mid to late 2000's models. So what do we look fork a SH bike as it's a bit of a mine field with bike types and brands. I am a good mechanic so don't mind some resto work occasionally. Which bikes have the best spares availability ? Are some parts unobtainable already? Which are the easiest to get on with? Which brands should be avoided? Which models are the ones to search for and why? Are certain engines used in a number of machines? Are some bikes fragile? How can you tell if a 2 stroke is knackered as many of them claim reb…

The wheels on my bike are 650B wheel. But I have to wonder — just saying. Is there a difference between the way 650B wheels and 650C wheels ? Would going from 650B to 650C somewhat increase the top tube and bottom bracket heights?

I've only been riding twinshock in last few years but I'm looking to Get a modern bike again. I've had 2 beta 300 4t and really like them but in the past I had a 2015 250 2t. Just want something for the trials my old bones find too much on the TLR. Id thought of returning to 250 2t but there is a 300ss going. Can't find much written about them other than the technical spec. Does anyone have any side by side experience of the 300ss v the 250. Cheers

Hi I am fairly new to the sport of trials. After 18 months of cuts and bruises I have taken to wearing some armour , knee and elbow . It has made a huge difference and will not ride without it now. I know the pros would not be seen dead wearing armour but why do so many club riders refuse to wear any , its the club rider that takes most of the damage. I use light weight mountain bike gear , it does not get in the way , it gets a little hot in the warmer weather but its a trade I am happy to live with. What is the general feeling from the old timers of trials ?

i'm in the process of replacing needle roller and top and bottom spherical bushes on my Olle rear shock, bike is a 2012 JGas 300. Bottom bearing (with spacer / bushes) is removed from the shock but what a mare I'm having trying to get the spacer bushes out of the bearing. Lots of different methods tried already .....penetrating spray, heat, cold, hammer and punch, hammer and chisel, big hammer and chisel - not shifting at all. I'm guessing others may have had the same problem, just wondered if anyone found a way to knock them out. I've been trying to get new spacer/bushes but no luck finding anywhere that sells them

I know some people upgrade their TY175s from a 428 chain, as someone who has had zero problems with the little chain I'm wondering just how much stronger is the bigger one?

I've owned a few factory bikes and find them too aggressive for my occasional riding these days. I like them because of the extra bling (suspension, brakes etc) and resale value. I'm tempted to get another and making it as soft as possible with low compression head insert, flywheel weight and possibly a slow action throttle. Arm pump is my biggest issue, probably due to lack of bike time. Do the factory bikes have different ignition modules that make them more aggressive? If so would it be an idea to fit an ignition module from a non factory bike? Any other tricks to soften things off? Cheers

I recently px'd a TLR 250 for an RTL. Went to Honda Classic Dating to get an age confirmation based on the VIN tag (fitted to the headstock with tamper proof rivets). The DVLA wanted a photo of the "stamped VIN number". Has anyone found such a number or could advise me where to look? The VIN on the plate is not acceptable Any help much appreciated. Thanks Andy. PS I have had a look but nothing obvious.

Updated and Edited. I've left in but struck out comments that I believe are unfair. Final conclusion - installer error. 50 hours ago (actually more like 40) I replaced my 350 hour old OEM Beta Evo linkage bearings with an All Balls kit. Suffice to say that you get what you pay for, or less. Today I pulled the linkage apart for a 50 hour service and found every roller in every bearing has lost an end guide tit. The resulting mess of debris and ground up metallic paste seized some bearings and badly wore others. What absolute rubbish! A total waste of time, effort and money. BUYER BEWARE! These things are totally unfit for purpose. Below is a ph…
