General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by Sum,

Hi all, I have been practicing skills for controlled wheelie for many months with my GasGas TXT and developed two types of the approaches; 1: Gas and clutch meet simultaneously. With a body action, I can lift the front wheel 2: Rev the engine first (flywheel preload?). Closing the gas and clutch meet simultaneously. #2 is more difficult because of more things to control; the amount of rev and the timing of the clutch meet, which have to get synchronized with the body action. I can get a good result only once in three or four tries. However, once the wheel is up, I feel it's more controllable. In the #1 approach, the front wheel rises with acceler…

Have had a sabbatical of some 8 years and decided to get a bike. Managed to get an nearly new evo and have had to get a whole load of new gear. So look a bit “all the gear and no idea”. Looking forward to getting back out having joined at the Earl Shilton club!

  3. Hello to all. Looking at gas gas txt 250-280-300 cc bikes. On one site it was said these engines comply with euro - 5 standards. Does this mean they are jetted lean ? And or do they have a cataltic converter hidden in the exhaust system ? Also, anyone know what brand of rear shock is on 2021 Bets 300 ss ? rebuildable ? I have asked dealer when the 2022 Beta trials bikes will be shipped to America-- no one has any idea here--- Pardon the spelling mistakes--

Hi Guys, I have just replaced an old wheel on one of my bikes with a brand new one, as the old one was going rusty on the rim and spokes. Would there be any problem with painting the new wheel with Clear Coat Spray, so that it would last longer (over 30 years) than the previous wheel..? I have used this petrol proof spray on freshly painted fuel tanks, and it has given good results. .

Hi folks, Can someone tell me this.. Do shocks wear out on a trials bike? Or since the one I have would need to be drilled, are they like a standard road bike and just fade a bit. Or is the damping that important on them. Its an old Gasgas Thanks

Some of the stickers on my GasGas are starting to come away at the edges and have lost there stickiness (I was probably over keen with the jet wash and liberal use of silicone spray afterwards). What glue is best for sticking them back down before they peal too much and get damaged? Ideally I want something that is strong enough to reattach them but not too strong that they will never come off again if I decide to replace the stickers at a later date.

I've noticed a few less postings, but more worryingly the news and results sections seem to be way out of date. Also I post our clubs newest results, but it seems to be ages before they appear yet the ones from our trial in November are in the latest results column

I dislocated my shoulder last year, I now have a pair after being high sided off my enduro bike 25 years ago. This one is causing me more problems though and I want to do something about it. My area NHS does not operate on this condition so I've been looking at going private. Had anybody any experience or recommendations? I asked both the ACU and the AMCA but neither had the courtesy to reply!!

Is it ok to clean a foam air cleaner with parafin (kerosene)? Or will it melt the glue or the foam? The air filter in the Sherco is in good condition but has a lot of black greasy muck at one end. I don't have any dedicated degreaser for it, and I don't think washing up liquid is going to cut it (at least, not for the first pass). I've never before had an air filter that was this dirty that didn't need replacing anyway!

Seen lots on social media with the Spanish riders slating the opening round and rule changes. From what I can deduce there is some kind of time element involved now around quickest rider etc... What is this and what happened? Saw Casales picked up a nasty injury as a result.

Have a add in the wanted list for a 200 Beta Evo but having no luck finding one even increased my price range up to £4000 so what do owner riders think if i widen my choice to include a Beta 125,a Gas Gas 125 TRS would only be riding the easy sections as now in my 80s so would like more low down torque than power, let me know what you think if you have one of these bikes you want to sell let me know
