Hi all, does anybody know of someone running specifically pre 65 or classic trials courses? I've heard lots of good reports of Mick Andrews training, but having searched the web I can't find anywhere to book.

Hi all. The wife and I are doing our first Trials event on 15 October. We are practicing turns, ascents, descents and balance as much as we can, but are wondering if any of you have any tips on what else we should be doing in preparation. Maybe riding over small logs or rocks or something to get used to it? I'm not sure how one actually sharpen the skills of walking a section and planning lines, etc so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I believe that Jeremy Magrath (7 time Supercross champion) eats lots of protein, when he can. I've seen Marc Colomer (3 world titles, counting indoors) being fed pasta in a section, by his minder. I believe pro body builders (not sure how relevant their program is to trials success, though) eat protein, protein and one more thing (...oh yea, now I remember: protein!) :-) One poster here said a good BALANCE (good word for trials anyway) between carbs and proteins helped him. I'm about a 40/36/24 ratio of carbs/proteins/oils in my diet. Your suggestions? What's the diet of a pro rider?

So I've been working on learning as much as I can as fast as I can. Its actually been going a lot better than I thought. I can balance about 50% of the time. My clutch control and throttle control are 4x what it used to be. One think Im still having problems with is timing. Such as loading the suspension and letting out the clutch to lunch the bike. I've been working on small bunny hoops to help this. One on thing that I'm having problems with and always have even on the bigger bike is remembering to cover the break during a wheelie. I really want to use the wheelie to help find that rear glance point. One other thing i've learned is a rear wheel pivot! kind of fun actual…

Does anyone have advice on how to get used to progressive lenses while riding trials? Or is it a bad idea in general? I have the common failing of close up vision that comes with age. I normally wear progressive lenses but do not wear any glasses to ride or drive on the street or in the dirt. Distance vision is probably starting to fade a little so I started to think wearing glasses to ride may be a good idea and gave it a try. Problem number one is that all obstacles look at least 30% bigger. They really magnify the bottom portion of an obsacle where it first becomes vertical. The second problem is that looking up and down by rotating your eyes produces a diffe…

I've been riding on and off road for years and always used the clutch as an "off" switch when the bike started to "buck" due to low rpm. I'd slip the clutch or down shift to get around it. However, I've been reading on the forum that I should be able to do full lock turns without touching the clutch at all as the bike will not stall due to all of the flywheel weight. My 2015 Sherco 300 starts to "buck" when I go very slow and I always jump to the conclusion that I need to pull the clutch in and slip it to keep turning. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ok we all should recognise that we need to be wearing a helmet to protect your melon when you come off. But I wonder how many people wear knee protectors or back protectors whilst riding. As trails is generally a low speed sport do we really need this type of protection. I have seen a few people wearing such protection and I was wondering if A, it is really required and B, where are they getting it from........MX stuff I wonder? I would imagine it restricts movement?

Hi guys I would like to know how often you boyz train according to the weather? The sun shines here most of the time but its been raining for the last 2 days so I figured ill use the wearher to vary my training and learn a bit more about finding traction. Ill be up at 4am to load up and take advantage of this rubbish weather as the rain seems to stop by late morning. So, if any, how often or important do you think training in cr@ppy weather is necessary?

I recently picked up this little gem from my local secondhand bookshop. Thinking I had at last found the answer to decades of struggling in the sections, a kind of pre video age forerunner to Ryan Young's benchmark productions, my anticipation was sorely demolished on opening the book. Not a mention of clutch control, counterweighting or splat technique. Instead, a somewhat heavy emphasis on the use of lemon juice, ammonia and scouring pads. Not my thing at all. Considering it cost me 25 pence I feel cheated. It's going back in the morning.

Hi, As suggested on this forum, I started my trials journey by learning full lock turns and figure 8's. I think I know what I'm supposed to do but I can't use my rear brake during these full lock turns because my foot is all over the place from bending my leg and ankle (O-leg). For instance in a left turn, your right foot is supposed to be on the very right end of the peg, so I can't reach my brake. Is this normal and are you supposed to just use front brake during these sharp turns then? Or do I exaggerate too much with the foot and ankle bending?

A question about foot placement for a relative newbie ..........as you move on to splatter and need holding pressure and such in the learning process - I am finding that its key to have the rear brake covered -but am finding that its difficult to cover the rear brake during a splatter for instance without applying it somewhere during the technique as the leg/foot/footrest angles change rapidly - do the better riders move their toes to the side and ready or have it over the lever during splatters and such and go through the pain of sometimes catching it as they learn ?? Tnx

I was watching Gary MacDonald and a few other top guys on Sunday and was amazed how much rear brake they use, like, what seemed to be much more than the front, I may be wrong, but is this normal and is this the reason I'm crap due to too much front brake well, that and all the other reasons for being crap that is

Hello again (expect many more questions! hehe) Okay so today i setup some basic home obstacles, 2 foot rocks etc, (first day ive ridden trials), im clearing them easyily.. Ive been trying to work on my hopping, watched a few videos etc, Im just wondering, when you apply the rear brake do you put your whole weight on the rear brake? Because when im trying to do hops, i hold both breaks and when i pull back the wheel turns... so either my break pads are worn or im not holding break enough. To get the wheel to completely lock up i have to apply so much pressure that the break is maxed out, is this a sign of pad wear? or maybe cable needs adjusting? Thanks

I'm getting ready to go out in a bit and need some inspiration. I've got to the point I can lift the rear wheel consistently by compressing the suspension, applying front brake on rebound, then pushing the bars down and about the front wheel. I'm having trouble getting the back to get any kind of lateral movement though. Tips please!

Recently as my riding has progressed I have started learning front wheel hops and static balance, but no matter how hard I try I just cant get the rear wheel off the ground, or even lift it trying to do an endo with alot of front brake, the front brakes powerful and im throwing my weight forward, but can only get maybe a couple centimeters off the ground. Any help would be much appreciated.
