Bultaco

  1. Started by scot taco,

Thinking about giving my 199A a face lift over the winter.I,m kicking around going to the 199B color as the A model is just too much blue for me.If I do should I cut the rear frame loop off like the B ? It does look better to me,but I kind of hate to ruin the originality of the A.In my thinking the loop also helps keep a little rigidity back there also.My other color scheme idea is silver frame, red tank and side panels with white fenders. Any opinions are welcome. Cheers, Scott

Hy boys I was always wondering, how much better a more modern than the 40 years old Amal 627 carb would be on my M49 Bultaco. After succesfully fitting an Oko to my Honda TL 250 (ok, quite similar to the Keihin, as it is a copy, but was tricky to find out the good jettings), I did it again an bought for 80$ form ebay (Taiwan) a 24 Oko. I once read an article in todotrial, comparing Oko and Mikuni to a modern GasGas 250, main jet 120, slow 45. This is my starting point now in the 1968 M49 Bulto. Has anybody experience with an Oko and jettings on a Bultaco? Any advice is welcome, as it could be time consuming and frustrating to try & error... (On my TL 250 4 stroke …

Ok, what am I doing wrong? I think I've been away too long from Bultos racing 4 strokes with electronic ignition. I've rigged up a lamp and buzzer to test the ignition timing on the M80 I am rebuilding. There are 3 wires from the magneto. Black, green and yellow. I assume yellow is from the lighting coil and so I've blanked it off. I've connected black to the coil and green to a good earth. To test the timing I've attached one lead from the tester to the black wire which I've disonnected from the coil, and the other lead to earth. I've set the piston at TDC and rotated backwards towards 2.9mm BTDC. Problem is the light doesn't go out when the points open, which I thou…

  12. Saw this and liked it. Anyone know what it is? Someones concept or does it exist? Looks like a "this is what a sherpa might have looked like by 1985".. http://www.flickr.com/photos/76022002@N08/8506871239/in/photostream

Just about to start my 199A restoration project and I am wondering what is the best way to coat the frame. Would modern automotive paints offer a better finish than traditional powder coating? The reason I ask, is that during our Model 80 restoration (almost complete) I found that the powder coating chipped very easily.

Hi Lads, looking info from someone who has experience in these little bikes. I am trying to put it together for a friend who dismantled it years ago and put it into boxes with other bike bits that are not for this bike. I got a gasket set, no head gasket in it, does it need one?.How much oil in gear box, and where do you actually put it To be honest the only reason im building it is, it was the first Chispa made and has the matching 001 numbers. Any info on this little bike would be very much appreaciated, Many Thank's

Hello; I have a 1978 Bultaco Sherpa T 350 model 191. I rescued this bike from a friend and I'm hoping to restore it to mint condition as it only has 421 original miles on it. When I got the bike it was siezed up or locked up. I removed the head and cylinder and everything looks brand new!! I then split the cases and inspected everything and it all looks BRAND NEW!! I'm starting to think the kick starter mechanism is the culprit. Does anyone have a diagram of the kick start mechanism set up properly? I saw an old post on this forum a while back that a fellow was rebuilding and he posted pics of the kick start that he had set up and put together. The picture I saw had no sp…

Group, Need some suggestions: I ride a Model 92 Sherpa T in Trials. Totally stock bike, points, AMAL carb. Great bike, runs fine, rebuilt about a year ago. Plenty of power, very good throttle response. My problem: It isn't now, and never has been a "first kick start". 5 to 7 kicks when cold and usually 2 or 3 when warm. This is a real pain in Trials where you have to start the bike about 30 times in an afternoon. Any suggestions to improve starting. I don't even care if I loose a little power. Thanks in advance. Alan

Was wondering if any of you chaps could help out, went to start my 199A, NO GO. used to start piece of P***, full choke a couple of boots and she would she would start. but now will only start with little choke and no throttle, chuggs along for 30 secs and then dies. also dies if you twist the throttle, i am guessing that it is the pilot jet. Any thoughts???????????? Regards, Tom,

I have a number of hubs in need of the "treatment", and an engineer acquaintance willing to tackle it. What's a reasonable price to pay ? I'd like to find a figure that's fair to both of us - any ideas, you guys ?

I have owned this 1967 Bultaco Sherpa T for ages, it was the first bike I bought and rode.Originally bought in 1982 for £400, I did some competitions on it then sold it when I was skint.Years later bought it back off the chap I sold it to, he needed the money, but it was in bits in a box then. He had road registered it and had it taxed and running on the road at one point. So it does have a number registration YMO 215F.I did a few more competitions on it, but it needed a restoration even back then. There was no working front brake when I last rode it back in the early 90's.Its sat in the corner of my garage getting dusty since then. So I've now decided to fully restore it…
