Hi all. Had a notion to build myself an early 70s sherpaT for nostalgic reasons. First bike I fell for was a model 91 Sherpa T when I was 8. Always wanted one and finally got myself a an m92 frame. This is the starting point for a long term project. I was wondering how the engines vary accross the 70s and what range of engine numbers I should be looking for to get one that is compatible with this frame. Any guidance would be much appreciated. My Sherpa M49 came without the (top-in bottom-out) triangular box end muffler. I have not seen them for sale anywhere so am guessing will need to make one. I don't have any decent close-up photos of an original muffler to help with this. Maybe the replica triangular muffler (bottom-in top-out) as sold by Sammy Miller can be easily modified. Can anyone help me with this issue? Thanks David Lahey

Back in the day my Sherpa 198A had what I believed to be an aftermarket one piece kick start lever that swivelled from the bottom rather than the top, it also hugged the cylinder head closer than the original type. From what I remember it had Bultaco stamped on it Does anyone know who made it ? and if they are still available?

hi all how mutch oil do i need to put in my sherpa 350 forks ive got castrol 10w fork oil allso whats the best gearing ive got 11 tooth front sproket what should i get for the back? ive been tojd 39 is the standerd would this be ok for geting up hills? im onley just starting to trials so i wont be going up any great big mad hills not till i get use ive just rebuilt my sherpa 199A just wating to get my wheels cant wait to try it got it runing needs tinkering with but cant do mutch till i get the wheeels think the cluts will need setting im praying it wont need a new one but if it dose ill cross that when i get it running by the way is it easey to put new clutch plates on i…

The offset pivot arrangement for the brake shoes in both wheels of my M198 had me wondering if there were brake shoes from a different bike that would fit and not have the offset pivots. I'm trying to maximise the performance of the brakes by avoiding the eccentric loading against the drum that the standard bultaco pivot arrangement creates. I have looked in the EBC catalogue and there were a few alternatives that looked like possibilities. Fantic 240 shoes appeared the closest in the catalogue. They are for the same diameter drum and are the same width shoe and use a standard pivot arrangement. I know I can have the existing shoes modified by welding and machining then…

Hi All Happy New Year Can anyone help with a problem on a 340 model 199B six speed gearbox ? Looking for a sleeve gear like in the photo....just with all of the teeth on it. Hi Looking for a little help, pointers and/or where to start. I'm no and#39;mechanic god' so assume nothing. I bought a 199A sherpa off eBay. Its not been run regularly but it has had quite a bit work done and looks generally tidy. Bit of a risk as bought it unseen. Got delivered home, filled up with fuel/oil mix and my excitement I managed to start it after several go's. Choke doesn't seem to do much, fiddled on and off. Eventually fired with wide open throttle. Went for a ride and whilst it tick overs quite sweetly seem low on power and does free rev. Can pull a wheelie in any gear for example. Had another go today. cleaned carb out but nothing in the…

I have gotten the M159 mostly back together and tried to get it start up (borrowed petcock off of M80 and fixed the throttle with epoxy and and a sqaure nut to act as a throttle stop). I did start after many kicks!!! But there was fuel everywhere dripping quickly out of the bottom of the carb. I did disassemble and "clean the carb" when I was going through the bike a few months ago but it was pretty clean to start with the photos are from the intial cleaning. What would cause the fuel to drip out?

For a French chum, could anybody please tell me if there is any particular material you need to use when re linging Bultaco brake hubs where the chrome has worn . Thanks

Hi, I have just joined this site and looking for some help sorting out my recently acquired Bultaco198A, 250 Sherpa as the bike is running weak. I have tried another Amal type 2 carburettor, I replaced the following: all the jets to original spec, throttle slide, crank case seals, intake rubber, air filter, spark plug and the engine will not run unless the choke is on. It has electronic ignition and starts fine. I appreciate any ideas or experiences that you may have. Thanking you in advance Graham

Hi I an running out of patience with the Amal Concentric. To explain the background on my ground up rebuild my target was to get the bike original in all things. To this end I purchased a new Concentric Mk 1. It is Jetted correctly runs realy well when the engine is warm and then always starts first time. However when cold it is B**** and needs 20 - 30 kicks to get going. It tickles up with fuel over flowing so there is no fuel shortage. Sammy Miller, James @ JHS racing have told me I am wasting my time as the cold staring design is poor, and to get a Mikuni or DelOrto, well ok that may be the route. Guys , I have been using my Miller Hi-Boy framed 250 'taco at a few club meets {with mixed results} and always well pleased when people come over to check it out . My question to those in the know is ... how rare is the '79 Hi-Boy frame ? Cheers Greg

Ho no not this again !! Anyone know what the manufactures recommended for this model when new ? Given that I only use fully synthetic that's for pre-mix only I was thinking about 40 to 1, what ratio's are other's on this site using. Regards No balance.

I have read that one of the things that they did to help keep the factory bikes in top tune was to keep the silencer properly packed.I don,t see any way to do this unless it was cut open.Is that what they did? I haven,t had mine off the bike yet,but I,m guessing they are talking about the end silencer/exhaust piece and I,m just curious how to repack it if thats possible or even necessary?

I just replaced the brake shoes to my Bultaco, got replacement ones and installed them. when I mount them without axle all seems OK, there is some space so they should run free. BUT when mounting the axle they don't fit the pads slide very strong. Some options: - mill away a mm or so on each side of the supports to the cam, (they look thicker) - mill away the sharp edges at the beginning and the end of the linings? - get another pair of shoes that fit - ... Any better or other suggestions how to align the lining so they fit again. It's "difficult" to see where the problem is. By the way the axle is not bend!

hi guys put new main bearings in yesterday ,seemed ok,ran engine up felt it was overheating but as you do entered trial today ,ok first lap then stopped . and will not start ,has electronic ignition ,199 model ,plenty power, and spark ,but did NOT replace crank seals ,question would this cause the over heating due to air leak kind regards murray

Just aquired a model 80 which i confess i dont know much about but it's clean enough so any piccys of what one should look like? In my ignorance i assumed it would have a slimline tank and seat but err it hasnt. On a totally different subject you all know what i'm like and if i decide to use it, doubtful but still possible, what mods should i do? Dont really fancy choping the frame but just wondered if anybody had any ideas that arent irreversable?
